Top pick for neckband style earbuds

      Posted
      Purren

Included in the Box: Neckband (Anker SoundBuds Life are a neckband style wireless setup, so there is a neckband that rests with the buds attached, no other wires.) Micro USB cable for charging Sized earbud tips XS to L Cloth storage pouch Instruction manual Warranty card Features: 10mm magnetic drivers IPX5 Water Resistance (Splashproof, not for water submersion) Bluetooth Version 4.1 Microphone Vibration Motor on neckband for connectivity notifications Up to 20 hour playback with a single full charge Build Quality: Build quality is more than ideal which has become a staple of Anker products when compared to competing brands. The neckband itself has some flex to it around the sides but is more rigid along the curve that rests at the back of the neck which is good, something with too much flex would have a very flimsy cheap feel to it, overall the product is extremely lightweight at only 2oz which brings no discomfort to the neck over prolonged periods of wear. The buds themselves are comfortable and do not irritate the ear canals from overreach or size of the drivers, they are free of ear hooks but rest easily when in ear, the buds can be inverted so the small cords connected to the drivers could double as pseudo ear hooks if you find this more comfortable without compromising the soundstage. My preferred method of storage is to hang the buds from a nightstand or headphone puck/hook but the included storage pouch is nice for travel and I don’t feel like the product would be damaged even if it's tossed in a packed bag. Audio Quality: The sound is solid, full, and has power behind it when compared to similar products. I’d say the sound is more leaning to the warm side which is expected from most earbuds of this type and not a bad thing unless you’re looking for neutral (but then I don’t think you’d be looking at the right products, to begin with.) Ideal Usage: As with all neckband based earbuds, I wouldn’t recommend these for anything above light workouts, basic weight lifting, maybe vertical yoga, but the style just isn’t the best for running or anything with a ton of movement because the band will bounce which can be heard in the buds as they’re connected. Daily on the go commuting or easy listen would be the preferred usage for the Soundbuds Life. Calling/Voice quality: Voice/Video chat is another section where these really shine, clear and crisp for both the wearer and the person on the other end. Tested the Soundbuds over Wifi Calling, VoLTE, and 3g fallback, performance was outstanding all around with the exception of the limitations of each technology (3g isn’t ideal over its successors due to its age.) Battery Life Test: There is a claimed 20 hour playback from a single charge with these earbuds and after multiple tests over a week I could average 20 hours without an issue making sure to charge the buds fully after testing them to death each time, A+ there. Final Thoughts: Neckband style earbuds are not my first choice when looking for great sound quality based on past experiences, but the Anker Soundbuds Life brings a refreshing image to the style delivering a product I would recommend to anyone in the market for a good commuter or overall lifestyle audio device. With great performance for both music and communication and a price point that doesn’t break the bank Anker brings another fine product to its family of devices.

Fantastic premium headphones loaded with features

Right out of the box you get Anker's impressive Apple-quality packaging and presentation. Along with the headphones, you get a soft silk carrying pouch, multiple ear-tips in varying sizes, a Micro-USB charging cable, and a brief manual/warranty info booklet. Build Quality: The build quality on this is definitely somewhat premium with a brushed aluminum-esque (it is a very durable plastic) exterior with the neck section and interior side a rubberized plastic that feels comfortable and weightless when worn around the neck. It is also quite flexible and not rigid which I liked. The buttons are simple to use with the rubberized volume and power buttons on the inside and the play/pause/answer/voice-assistant button on the outer right side which had a nice tactile response and was easy to reach without having to look. The earbud part is the same aluminum looking plastic and has magnetic connectors on the back of each earbud to keep them from dangling when not in use. The only negative part about the build quality, in my opinion, is that the cables feel a bit thin and could be made thicker or be braided nylon like Anker's PowerLine + cables. These are rated IPX5 water-resistant which is nice for any rain but have not tested this yet. One little touch I was really impressed by was the rumble/vibration feature when you turn the device on/off or receive calls. Sound Quality: Really fantastic especially for this price point. Crisp highs/mids and a surprisingly great low end from the 10mm drivers. The stock earpieces are comfortable, snug, and isolate sounds fantastically. Gets fairly loud at the highest setting but no distortion at all. Voice is picked up crystal clear. Battery Life: Has lasted me for hours of usage all day and have yet for it to run out of battery for me so no complaints here. Charging is via Micro-USB via a hidden port on the inside under a rubber cover. Took maybe 10 minutes to charge and there is an indicator light to indicate charge status. Overall this is a great Bluetooth headphone for the price and Anker has the best customer service of any company I have purchased from so if these were to break in the future I know Anker would be glad to replace it under their 18-Month warranty. The only things I would change are a thicker cable and disabling the beep noise when setting it to max volume but these issues were not significant to me as the product is already quite close to perfect at this price point.

      Fantastic budget earphone

This thing is 5 stars. Having owned the soundbuds slim+, I was able to compare the two. While this item is about 2x the price, it is well justified to say the least. Right off the bat, the packaging is standard Anker. The quality and the presentation is what you'd expect from a well respected electronics brand. Once out of the package, they give you a micro-usb charger along with different size buds and a nice pouch for the earphones. These earphones btw, are really light. They are curved to perfection and feels weightless around your neck. Not only is the neckpiece weightless, but the earpieces themselves are weightless. This might worry a few people to thinking that it is built with cheap materials, but fear not, they are built very well. I was pleasantly surprised by the build quality considering how light it was. The earpieces were very comfortable on the ear and it does not come out at all. The controls are very intuitive as it has the power button on the left side and the volume rockers with play button on the right side. Very standard and placed in a nice area where anyone can reach without it feeling weird or uncomfortable. After about a minute or two, you will most certainly know where all the buttons are by heart. In terms of sound, this thing is really, really ,really well priced for its segment. The sound is absolutely crystal clear. This thing is almost a bargain for a mere $50. As mentioned before, I have the soundbuds slim+ and these sounds so much better for the extra price. Not only does this earphone does everything the slim+ does, but it lasts much longer and has a much better sound quality. The bass is there, and the treble and mid range is fantastic. Very well balanced sound that is of high quality. The battery has been fantastic and I have been using this mostly for my commute (1-2 hours a day). From 100%, this has lasted me about 1 week, which is very solid. The only negative thing I would like to point out is that the wire could be about 0.5 inches shorter. I am a 5'10 guy with a normal sized neck and the wire keeps hitting against the side of my face because it is a tad bit long. Other than that, it is solid. Would recommend

      Nice, needs a hard case

Nice headphones for the price. Its hard not to compare them to my Bose QuietControl 30, but there $300 and the Anker headphones are $50. They feel like if I travelled with them in my bag, they would break so bought a hard case. Anker needed to include a hard case with these headphones, they include a nice silky bag that provide zero protection. I like my Anker soundbuds slim headphones for daily use, but you give up 20hr battery life and noise cancellation. Bluetooth pairing was easy on iPad and iMac. Like other Anker earbuds when there not in your ears they magnet hold together. Wearing the earbuds for two hour movies were comfortable and decent bass for an action movie. You can change the ear tips to get what is most comfortable for your ears and they come off for cleaning. Micro USB charging was quick and easy. You forget your wearing the comfortable silicone neckband. I will probably not take them out of the house a lot but they are IPX5 rated for real life water proofing, you're not swimming in them, just rain proof. More likely for everyday will take Anker SoundBuds Slim+ because role them up in pocket easy, sacrifice 1.5hr battery and no noise cancelation. I aways have an Anker power pack in my bag and rarely listen for more then an hour. But if your watching a 2hr movies, a commuter or on a long airplane flight the extra battery life appreciated. If they had made them sturdier they would be uncomfortable. The Bose are much nicer, but at 6x the cost. For the money its great buy, if you get a sturdy case for them.

Same great Anker quality and sound we love

When it comes to bluetooth headphones, I always lean towards behind the head cord over the neckband headsets mainly due to the look. With that being said, I understand the functional benefits that come with the neckband headphones which mainly revolve around battery and sound. I was looking for a headphones with a longer battery life so I decided to give Soundbuds Life a try because they didn't look too bulky and I fully trust the Anker name as own a number of their products already. Sound: The sound on the Soundbuds Life were the same great quality I've become accustom to expect from Anker. I was able to play music at a reasonable volume and block out all nearby background noises without much issue. Functionality: The battery life has been great thus far and last longer than my other bluetooth headphones normally do. I'm still not the biggest fan of the neckband as a whole, but after having the band on for a short time, you don't even notice it. I found the buttons on the band to be very easy to use and I loved the functionality of the play button for my music and then leveraging Google Voice on my Pixel. My only suggestions in new model would be to have retractable earbud cords (I've seen it in other models) and include a small, tougher case than the cloth travel pouch. Pros: - Great battery life - Solid sound and great noise isolating - Very Comfortable neckband and earbuds (barely notice you're wearing them) - Intuitive buttons on neckband for power, volume, track skip, play/pause, integration with Google Voice - Easy pairing - Additional ear pieces Cons: - Tougher case would nice instead of the pouch - Retractable cord would help ensure cord doesn't damage/tangle when not in use - Vibration when powering on is slightly jarring Overall, going in, I had reservations about the neckband headphones, but I'm very happy I took a chance on the Anker Soundbuds Life because I think they won me over with the quality and comfort and the piece of mind knowing I don't have to charge my headphones as much as I've grown accustom to. I don't know if they'll become my full-time headphones, but I plan to definitely use these for work and conference calls or periods where I know they'll get extended use.

These are my own impressions on using Anker SoundBuds Life for a complete week. I love when new Anker products come to my door, it is always a grateful surprise bunch of cool features. The box: You know Anker put a lot of love when making their boxes, this box is the same, a lovely packed Anker product Pros: The plastic used to make it is very resitant, the interior of the headset is made of a durable rubber. When you sweat it doesn’t make you feel uncomfortable The battery last a lot, I have almost 3 days of non-continuos use and it is only 57% The magnetic ears are very useful, specially when you are running or moving a lot without having the buds on your ear Noise cancellation works very great The bass quality is very decent The power, volume up and down buttons are not pieces, it is a relief part of the body, so no sweat or any other liquids will flow inside the headset The play/pause position is perfect Cons: I don’t like the charging port position I personally think the vibration is very strong it would be great to calibrate it Overall impressions: I think this product is great, also pay attention to the price, is very affordable. If you are looking for a good headset that works great with your computer or mobile this is the one. Also the materials used to build this are very durable, I always pay attention to the materials used on the gadgets.

      Superior Quality...

...especially at such a great price! While not an absolute audiophile, I do listen to many genres of music, from bebop and standard on through classic rock, old school hip hop and current pop and country. I have been a professional singer/actor for a great many years. I believe I know good sound when I hear it. My verdict on the Anker Soundbuds Life: wonderful quality sound! As a point of comparison, I grabbed my wife's Beats Solo over ear headphones and listened to various music: Big band jazz (Stan Kenton - Malaga, Pat Metheny - First Circle, Clifford Brown - Joy Spring) sounded absolutely terrific, actually better quality and clarity on the Anker unit. Walking bass lines were very easy to discern, high's were crisp and not tinny. Hip-hop (Dr. Dre - Dre Day, Tupac - How Do U Want It) delivery felt more robust than the unit had any business offering. It felt just short of sitting in the back of a '64 with amp driven sub's behind my seat. Battery life: I defy you to find better. And, a 90-minute *full* recharge doesn't keep you confined for long. Ease of use: the bluetooth radio sports a seamless, powerful connection to the device you are connecting to. It is button simple. Anker is a company that truly stands behind its products, too. The 18-month warranty is something you won't find among many, if any, comparably priced products. Customer service is always friendly and willing and wanting to *help*. In short, like their charging cords and products, Anker is a wonderful company everyone should give a shot. It is, quite simply, the best value on the market I have found.

Long battery life and comfortable headphone

Anker SoundBud Life is an awesome headphone. Battery life is amazing 20 hours. I have been using 1-2 hours for past 9 days and it is still going so I believe it will last 20 hours. You get multiple ear buds to fit your ear size. Also, it has magnetic ends so they group together when you don't use them instead of just dangling by themselves. I thought wearing this on the neck might look weird but it doesn’t look that bad. It is so light that you don’t even notice it is there. My only discomfort was when I was stretching/exercising while wearing it and for certain movements, I had to take it off so it doesn’t just fall off my neck. Therefore, I can’t say this is perfect for workout, but it would be perfect for running or all other stuff that don't require you to completely bend over. Lying down on your back is fine though. It has IPX5 rating so you don’t have to worry about this getting some water or some of your sweat. I did accidentally submerged my earbuds on the water fountain but it worked without any issues right after. The button operation was pretty standard and easy to learn if you never used it. Volume up and down, answer calls, etc… I am not sure how exactly noise cancellation works though. I did hear much less noise from a box fan while I was wearing it but I could still hear some noise from the fan. Other than that, sounds from it was perfect for daily use for regular audience.
