Outstanding Product
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI bought the APC - Smart-UPS 1440VA Battery Back-Up System as an upgrade to my APC Back-UPS XS 1500. I recently upgraded to a LG 65" OLED TV and the Denon AVR-X4300H A/V receiver, so I wanted to ensure I had the best backup protection to protect my investment, and I'm certain the 1400VA fits the bill. While the XS 1500 was a great product and had 865W of battery backup, the battery was only for three minutes duration during an outage, while the 1400VA provides three hours of battery life. I also like the one-minute shutoff display option; sometimes I forget to turn off A/V equipment before turning off the UPS and the delay gives me a chance to recover from that. The 1440 VA display is a little on the smaller side, but the icon indicators are still intuitive. Although not a problem for me, it weighs about 53 lbs., so it might be a chore to lift and move around for others. It's also a little pricey, but for the peace of mind of quality protection for your audio/video gear (up to $150,000 equipment protection policy), it's priceless.

Reliable UPS, good UI and features
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI bought this UPS proactively as a replacement to my 11 year old APC UPS (which served me well). Its older brother has been reliable (even though our power company isn't) and I have no reason to doubt the reliability of this one. Before purchasing I received great support from APC and was able to find up-to-date software, even for Server 2012 and Windows 8. The unit is a breeze to set up and its user interface is visually appealing and provides a lot of features, for example, power usage monitoring (KWh and VA), voltage, load, and outage history (in graph or table form). I really like how the banks of outlets can be assigned different priorities, i.e., some can shut down right away while others can be directed to stay on as long as possible in case of an outage. The front-panel LCD is useful if you dont want to log on to access the UI (and can be used to configure UPS settings without logging on). Also, the UPS can also be accessed through/as a web page - for example, if you want to VPN remotely without doing a remote session. Overall I have been extremely happy with APC, the reliability of their products, and their customer support. (FYI: connected to this unit are a Dell T620, Poweredge 2900, a couple of routers, switches, VoIP and WAN equipment, running at about 40% of the UPS' capacity).

Q: QuestionHow long will this unit run a 60 Watts incadecent light bulb ?I use a CPAP machine at night and need some type of battery backup to keep my machine running during black outs. My CPAP is rated at 60 Watts. What size UPS do I need to run my CPAP for at least (8) hours ?
Asked by Labrat0116.
- A:Answer That unit will keep 60 watts up for about 4.5 hours, for 8 hours of backup we would recommend the SMX750 + (1)SMX48RMBP2U.

Q: QuestionDoes anyone know what apc backup will run a lexmark t652 printer. When it starts after rest it sucks a tone of power. Thanks
Asked by Dave.
- A:Answer Thank you for your inquiry. The SMT1500 is rated for 1000 watts and the T652 printer has an average power consumption of 725 watts when printing. The Smart-UPS could support the load for a few minutes while printing. Unless it is mission critical to be able to print during a power outage, we typically recommend connecting printers to surge protectors only.

Q: QuestionDoes it work for my freezer, which requires 120V, 60 HZ, 13A? How long it may last if it works? Thanks.(I bought a 1325VA AVR from cyberpower. It failed.)
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Thank you for inquiry. No this unit will not work with your freezer. This unit only supports 1,000 watts of power connected to it. You would need an UPS that supports at least 1,560 watts to support your freezer.

Q: QuestionHow do you monitor unit remotely through your router to see how much runtime is remaining
Asked by Grady.
- A:Answer I have always monitored using a connected computer/server but I believe remote monitoring is possible if you add a network card to the unit: http://www.apc.com/shop/us/en/products/UPS-Network-Management-Card-2/P-AP9630

Q: QuestionI need to run a Dell Latitude Rugged laptop, 3nos-72 Watt LED lights and 2 high performance professional cameras for about 6 hours. So is this product enough to do so? If not please recommend me the UPS battery.
Asked by Biswash.
- A:Answer That's not possible with this unit. You will have to go much much bigger to get 6 hours run time. This unit with nothing attached will only run for around 4 hours.

Q: QuestionIs it possible to charge this battery back via a regular power chord & wall socket? What about ability to charge in the car? Thanks!
Asked by Ringlid.
- A:Answer Any wall of outlet will work, cars can't produce enough energy to change it.

Q: QuestionWhat is the average run time with a small business server, hub swich with one computer, internet router and printer attached during an outage?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Thank you for your inquiry. The amount of runtime you will get on this UPS depends on the power consumption of all these connected devices added together. Below is a link to the runtime chart for this SMT1500. For example, on a 500W connected load you will get about 23 minutes of runtime. http://www.apc.com/products/runtimegraph/runtime_graph.cfm?base_sku=SMT1500&chartSize=large
