Nice Compact Laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the new Macbook to replace my 2009 Macbook Pro. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. Weight: The computer is astonishingly lightweight. I can't emphasize this enough. Keyboard: The new keyboard took a little getting used to but I actually prefer it now. There is very little travel on the keys though, so do expect a much different feel than you're used to. Display: The retina display is just plain gorgeous. Trackpad: Great technology! When I first read about it, it sounded like I wasn't going to like it, however this proved to be false. Battery: I do think Apple is exaggerating on battery life. I'm not getting 9 hours out of mine, it's closer to 4 I'd say. Maybe if you turn the display brightness all the way down it could last that long but that would certainly take away from the experience. Ports: Now I knew there was only a headphone jack and USB-C port when I bought it. The power supply brick only comes with the 2 prong AC attachment, not also with the 3 prong with the extension cord. This annoys me because it just isn't enough length for me. The USB-C cable is 6.5 ft and plugs into the brick. It comes up too short in most scenarios. Apple needs to make a 9 ft USB-C cable and include the 3 prong AC attachment like they used to do -- especially considering the absurd amount of money I spent on this computer (I got the higher end model). I also bought the $30 USB-C to USB adapter because I needed it to transfer files. I really miss the MagSafe charger. I've had some close calls with this computer already from tripping over the cord. Processor: The processor seems pretty decent, although I would've preferred something a little faster. I'd say it's about the same speed as my old Core 2 Duo. I like the fact that there's no internal fan, but the base still can get quite hot. Hot enough to where you don't want it touching your bare skin. Pros: Lightweight Crisp, clear display Great responsive keyboard, brilliantly backlit High quality construction New force touch trackpad Cons: So thin, you're scared you might break it Battery life does not last 9 hours as advertised No magsafe charge port 3 prong AC plug not included Very very expensive

Good product! worth for the money
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Light weight, very fast when compared to my previous PCs and charging comes around 9-10 hours. High resolution display.. The only disadvantage is lack of ports.

Amazing Macbook - who needs an iPad pro?
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I originally was looking at getting either an iPad Pro or a Surface Pro. I liked the idea of having all that computing power in a tiny little package. Airplanes are getting so small these days that having a giant laptop on your tray table just doesn't work. However, the problem with both the SP and the iPad Pro is that the keyboards are not directly attached, and since they are portable keyboards they are wobbly and don't feel like a real keyboard. In addition, as a tablet both of the devices are worthless because when you go to hold it in your hand they are both too big and heavy for long term use, but I suspect work great if you prop them up with something to watch a movie or consume digital content. I wanted to love them both, but the iPad Pro just felt like an oversized iPad to me and still wouldn't be able to run my work programs and I would not be able to run parallels desktop on the iPad to be able to run windows. The surface pro just felt like clunky Windows, and I hate Windows, I've been a die hard Mac user for almost 10 years now. Enter the Macbook, the sleek and lightweight 12 inch power house. This machine probably isn't as fast as a Surface Pro, and definitely would be left in the dust by a Macbook Pro or a Macbook Air, but let's be honest. If you're a photo or video editor, you're not going to want to do it on a tiny 12 inch laptop anyway. If you're a programmer or someone who needs a powerful machine, these aren't going to be the target audiences for these systems. If you're like me, I'm a DJ who downloads music and makes mixes, perfect machine. Only concern I have is the single port, but I've never done a gig longer then 5-6 hours and this battery last a minimum of 8. I did get the multipart adaptor however, so I should be able to plug my USB DJ controller in and plug the power cord in as well. In addition to that, I am a working IT professional. I remote into a lot of client machines. The mac versions of LogMeIn, GotoAssist, and GotoMyPC work flawlessly for this. I know they also have iPad versions of these, but without a REAL trackpad or mouse, copy and paste are a ROYAL pain and I need to copy and paste logins and other info all the time when working on my clients servers. Lastly, I run Parallels Desktop. I was able to use Parallels Access to transfer my Windows 8.1 machine from my work laptop over to this Macbook and it runs PERFECTLY. Windows fires up from a dead shut down in 10 seconds flat. I can run all my work programs, enter my time sheets, etc. seamlessly and enjoy the beauty of a Mac side by side with Windows, no issues there. So what's not to love about this machine? The keyboard takes some getting used to. I can type almost the same speed with it as a regular board, roughly 100WPM, but it still feels awkward, I almost feel like I am POUNDING the keys. I need to learn to type softer I guess. The screen size can also be an issue. I find that I have to resize the screen quite often depending on what I'm doing. When I RDP into a clients machine, it's VERY tiny unless I down grade my resolution then it looks better. It's a minor price to may for having such portable convenience, but it could be an annoyance to some users. In addition to that, when browsing web sites you will do more scrolling due to the screen size, and will probably want to run Safari in full screen mode and get rid of the toolbars and such to make it a better browsing experience. The force touch trackpad is magnificent. I finally feel like I can ditch the mouse and just use the trackpad. It works great, and you can adjust the sound and feedback levels. I turned the sound off, but I can still hear that normal CLICK when you press down even with the sound off. Pretty amazing considering that it doesn't actually click down. :) The screen quality is incredible. The retina display, hands down, is a MUST on any computer today, and who knows what will happen to the Macbook Air lineup if they add a retina display to it ,or if they do away with the air and make this thing more powerful. I was considering the MBA until I found out it didn't have retina. Last but not least, one of the big annoyances to me when I am using a laptop at home while watching TV is how hot it gets on my lap. This Macbook has no fans or no moving parts and runs significantly cooler then any other machine I've used. Kudos to Apple on that. Are we sacrificing performance? Sure, if you edit videos or play video games, this is NOT the machine for you. But for Word Processing, Desktop Publishing, spreadsheets, and even DJ software this machine runs flawlessly, I have never seen it lag. I also love the 512SSD Storage. Don't get the 256, just go for the 512 unless you NEVER download anything and you plan on storing all your photos in the cloud (which costs a lot of money when your library starts getting big). Also for those running windows on the mac you definitely want the larger drive, as the windows image can take up to 100 gigs of space.

Better than I'd hoped
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed a small, light laptop to complement my Mac Pro and my iPad. Somewhere in-between. I wanted a laptop for those times when I type a lot. And I don't want one of those compromised pieces of plastic like are offered for the iPad or the MS Surface Pro. They are unbearable for a touch typist/editor like me. I feared it wouldn't be fast. It's smoking fast (boots in about seven seconds) for what it is. Its as light as my original iPad. But it's a real laptop. The screen is gorgeous. It's silent. I don't find the lack of ports a problem at all. It's got 512 gigs. How much time would that take to clone to another drive over USB 3? I found a thumb drive that's USB-C on one side and standard USB on the other. A few adapter cables and I'm set! But I don't really need peripherals (wireless printer) and my hefty Mac Pro I can connect to easily via very fast 802.11 AC WIFI. The space gray color is outstanding. Though it does show fingerprints a bit more than silver would. I keep a cloth nearby to clean it up. The battery lasts all day and then some. The speakers in this thing area amazing! Better by far than any other computer I've used. The iSight camera is quite low in resolution. But it's for face-to-face FaceTime/Skype. Not an issue for me. Might be for you. But really, how high resolution do you need for that kind of thing? It's a bit pricey, but worth every penny for the size, weight, and performance. Plus the absolutely gorgeous screen, outstanding keyboard, and overall fit and finish. I'm going to love this thing for a very long time. With a hefty Mac Pro, I don't need the horsepower of a MacBook Pro. And the benefit is, it slips into tiny spaces along with my iPad and adds only 2 pounds to my Timbuk2 messenger bag. The perfect laptop for me, and anyone who values weight savings over a need for raw horsepower.

Perfection?
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased my first Mac, a FatMac in 1984 and have owned dozens of PC's and Macs since. I can tell you that the WOW factor of craftsmanship, performance, design and workflow usability of this new rMacBook is the best yet. This should meet well over 95% of all computing requirements anyone will ever have, and for 80% of the people, this will be all the computer they will ever need. I have been using this rMacBook for several days now, and I can tell you that my productivity has gone up significantly over what I was used to with my already amazing 15" Retina MacBookPro, just by virtue of me being able to use it practically anywhere due to it's portability and "fun" factor. As an Architect, design and functionality are my priorities, and this MacBook combines the best attributes of any machine out there with very little compromises for the average user. The keyboard is out of this world and has -at least perceptually- increased my typing speed. The Trackpad has that "Magic" factor attached to it, and has me actually "clicking" on an Apple trackpad for the first time in years. The battery life is more than adequate and the screen is amazing. I am thrilled that even my part-time Network Marketing business has shown over a 20% improvement in the few days I've been using this rMacBook as I will find any excuse to "play" with this machine. I actually enjoy following up with my business prospects and look forward to using Skype for cold-calling leads! By adding BetterTouchTool, iClipboard, BetterSnapTool, EasyRes and OmniFocus 2, this new rMacBook has definitely become my dream machine and a "Productivity Monster" that I carry everywhere with me... This is the future of computing for most people and I am glad it's finally here!

Great Mac for those on the go
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a macbook, plain and simple. It's not designed to replace or be faster than the macbook pro, but it's a great laptop for those who travel or for those who are looking at a laptop to augment a computer or power laptop they already have. I bought this to replace my 2008 macbook aluminum unibody. it was strong for 7 years, but it was time to find something I could travel with that would be relevant for the years to come. it is now the fastest machine i have in my house, but only for basic tasks. I wouldn't do video editing, converting blu-rays or high-power auto cad with it, but I can safely travel with it and know it will never fail me or slow down for what I do on it. It's small, insanely lightweight (lighter and smaller than the 11 inch macbook airs), fast, and the display is incredible. I love this laptop and it's so much easier to use than the machine I replaced it with. The price tag is a bit high, but since I keep macs for 3 times as long as I would a windows-based laptop, I feel I'm still getting my money's worth. Some people complain about the single USB port, but it's perfect for me as I only use it to periodically sync my iPhone, iPad or push/pull data to an external hard drive. Great purchase, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
