Apple® - MacBook Air® - 11.6" Display - 4GB Memory - 128GB Flash Storage

I have been waiting for the 4th Gen. intel CPU to purchase a macbook. This is my first Mac ever and I picked up on it almost intuitively as if I had always used Mac OS X! I wanted the increased battery life that the new intel processor grants (Thank you Intel!) and the sleek, portable design of the 11 inch air. It's only been a few days and I already love it! I picked up the 11 inch because small and portable is better for me personally, I will use this for office, surfing the web, Netflix, and maybe some casual games. I got my base model (4gb ram/i5/128gb) for $899 so it was a great deal! This air is replacing my Ipad 4, after years of using an Ipad (since it's original launch) and loving it, I now find myself needing more of a full fledged laptop but I still wanted the day long battery life that laptops couldn't offer (until now!) and I didn't want another windows laptop. Battery: Why not start with the high point of this generation, let me just say WOW! I cranked out 9 hours and 12 minutes (at about 60% brightness, blutetooth off, and wifi on) on my first complete charge while surfing the web and taking notes in office. I have been waiting for this kind of battery life for a long time and I'm glad it's finally here! Looking forward to Maverick and hopefully even more battery life! Heat/Fan: I've been on it for about 2 hours now typing this up while taking notes in class and It's barley warm. The only time i've heard the fan kick in was while playing portal 2 and it's very quiet! Screen: I'm sad that the resolution didn't get an upgrade but it looks just fine and I would not personally trade off battery life for more PPI, maybe in the next refresh! It's crisp and looks great for what it is which is fine with me. After using a retina screen for almost a year, I do not find it difficult or even consider the downgrade in PPI an issue. Performance: The biggest point here is that Intel made a much more efficient chip with just about equal performance of the previous gen of cpus which is awesome and it should be no surprise to find out that there is no noticeable performance difference between the 2013 and previous air model. No it's not as powerful as something you can get for about the same for windows BUT that's the reason I wanted a Mac, because it's not windows so that argument is null to me. That being said it's plenty powerful for what I use it for. Sound: sounds just fine to me, I wish the sound was a little fuller but I have no quarrels with it. SSD/RAM: Makes everything smooth and seamless.I purchased the 128gb which is perfect since I use cloud storage like dropbox a lot and have a 128gb USB 3.0 stick that is insanely fast. I kind of wish I had 8gb of ram instead of 4gb just because I'm that kind of techie however I know that I won't utilize it. I realize some people need more storage space but there are other good options for those on a budget or who don't think they need extra space and later find themselves short. I do wish it had an SD slot like the 13inch however it wasn't worth the increased size for me. Graphics: The new Intel 5000 is a very nice upgrade from the previous Gen. So far the only game I've played on it is portal 2 and it looks great and plays smoothly (sorry I don't have FPS). From what I've read though, many games run very playable at med to high settings. It's not designed to be a gpu powerhouse but it handles most games pretty well and I'm very happy with that. It does get very warm after a while (1+ hours of gaming) however this is to be expected. It took about 30 mins for me to notice the fan turn on while playing portal 2. The front facing camera is 720p but it looks great and works well enough for me. Design: It didn't change from the previous Gen. but since i've never used a MacBook before; I have large manly hands but I find the keyboard very comfortable, I find that the layout and spacing is perfect for me! The weight and sleek design is excellent for the size IMO. I love the backlit keyboard (which is a MUST imo for all laptops) and the ability to control how long it's on when not typing is awesome (as opposed to simply turning it on and off like my last windows laptop). Overall: I love it, it's not perfect for everyone but it's everything I want and need and it does it all very well. I like that MacBooks hold their value pretty well (something I did not know existed in the laptop market which tells you all you need to know about windows laptops). Perhaps the ONLY disappointment I have is the fact that the SSD and RAM can't be upgraded due to it being integrated into the MB. Very content with this MacBook Air!

Bought this for my sons 18th as he will be going off to college next year. He kept saying he didn't want a laptop, he wanted an iPad but I knew an iPad would be no good for college. I had never looked at MacBooks as I thought whole Apple PC thing was out of my price range, but it's definitely worth the extra. Saw this and fell in love with it myself. It's small, slim, light and a great size for him to carry round when he goes to college. Has a really nice feel to the keyboard, love that it's backlit. We have all only ever used windows, another reason I have never bought an Apple PC - not keen on change! But I haven't got to grips with windows 8 yet anyway. We have iPads and iPhones in our house and I realized that I knew more than I thought when it came to this MacBook. I'm seriously impressed with its battery life too. I use my laptop for work everyday and I'm fed up with carrying it and it has to be plugged in all the time it's also not very old but soooo dated and keeps crashing. I love the fact this MacBook fires up so quick, my laptop takes forever and I can't leave it turned on as the battery is useless and it's the second battery I have bought. I noticed that people who own apple macs seem to have them for years and I see many using very old ones so that's a good sign. I am so impressed by this little thing that I desperately want one of my own and am going to buy the bigger one for myself before years end and I am also going to switch the house to Apple and get the family an Apple Mac mini. I didn't even know that was a desk top and it turns out the kids use them at school - so they can teach their parents to use it! It will be different at first getting used to it but already I can see, once you have used an Apple Mac you won't switch back, now I know what all the fuss is about. It's great to see my son using it for so much, all the time - no work yet, just play :). For a kid who was adamant the didn't want a laptop and was happy to use an iPad all the time I'm happy I haven't wasted my money.

If you asked me ten years ago, I never would have thought that one day, I would own an Apple computer. Well, the day has come. The price on these 2013 Haswell Macbook Airs dropped to $799.99 yesterday and I just couldn't resist. For that price, this machine is a great value, perhaps even better value than some Windows PCs. That was my problem with Apple. I couldn't justify paying the price when I could accomplish similar tasks on cheaper machines. At $799.99, the Macbook Air costs as much as the Lenovo 11s yet the Macbook destroys the Lenovo 11s in performance. I'm saying that because I actually owned the Lenovo for a week and ended up returning it. The Air is lighter, better build quality, better keyboard, and equally good screen. What sets the Air apart from the rest of the Windows ultrabooks is the platform and performance. OS X runs incredibly fast on this machine, much faster than Windows 8.1 on most laptops. Everything opens instantly, web pages load quickly, and scrolling through documents or articles is a fantastic experience. Apple really knows how to create the best portable computing experience. The setup took me a while as I have been using Windows for as long as I can remember. The only drawback of using a Mac right now is the Office suite. No matter how much people argue that "you have iWorks!", I am a firm believer that Microsoft Office is the best productivity suite available. The Office suite for OS X looks dated and doesn't have as many features as the Windows version. It looks like Microsoft is going to update the Office suite for Macs this year which will make it a little more contemporary. This computer has made me a believer in Apple laptops. Notice, I say laptops. I still use a powerful desktop running Windows as my heavy duty machine. Windows is far easier to manipulate and work around then Apple and that's why I prefer it on a desktop. However, I've come to notice that Windows 8.1 on laptops is just... subpar to OS X. It's not as fast, isn't as optimized, fragmented, and just makes you spend more time figuring out how to affectively use it instead of actually using it. Overall, if you can get your hands on one of these for $799.99 while they're selling the remainder of the stock, you will be glad you did. I'm hoping this laptop lasts me for a while.

I love this laptop, if you're like me I was torn between going with a laptop or a tablet i really like the portability of my girlfriends tablet but miss everything else that comes with having a laptop. This macbook air is the best of both worlds and the main reason i chose this guy, plus the new 4th gen intel processors increase the battery life to 9 hours?? Right out of the box I had an estimated battery life of 8 hours I have been web browsing, doing basic set up, and getting familiar with the trackpad for about 3 hours now and I've lost maybe 15% of my battery life. The keys on the keyboard I think were one of the first things that jumped out at me, they are so comfortable and almost completely silent, the backlit keyboard is fantastic and the trackpad is very fun and makes web browsing even easier than I could have imagined once you become familiar with all of the available "gestures". I have heard a lot of complaints about this model not yet having a retina display and to be quite honest the resolution on this screen is good enough that the average computer owner will not notice the difference. The one complaint I have of so far is the poor screen quality when looking off-axis Bottom line if you are tired of buying another PC once every 9-15 months invest your money into a macbook these things will grow obsolete before they break or crash. If all you need to do is simple tasks such as word processing, email, web browsing, stream videos, spreadsheets, or skype then buy this thing and you'll be set. if you are looking to do photo editing or video editing or website building then go with a macbook pro.

I got this open box for $599. Perfect little device in conjunction with an iPad. There are just some things iOS cannot do that a desktop / laptop can. This is where this little laptop can work wonders. It's small, light in weight, battery life is outstanding, and for mine, it was very cheap compared to new retail. Would I recommend paying full retail for any apple product? Truthfully no. I would recommend waiting for deals. Every so often, there are at minimum $50 off deals. Then there are on occasion $150 off. But there are those few times where apple products can be obtained for more than $250 off or even up to 45% off the original price and those are the ones to be on the lookout for. It's not a powerhouse. The components are non-upgradable. This model comes with 4GB Ram that's fixed into the motherboard, and 128GB SSD module. Still waiting for OWC to have an SSD option for upgrade. Aside from that, if you're not a person who likes to DIY upgrade, this device will suit your needs for simplistic functions. If you have other boxes at home, you can pretty much offset what you do on this laptop there or use a remote desktop client. The display is not retina / IPS. But that's not to say it's a bad screen. For what it is, it's alright. But for the price I got it for, can't complain either. I run a variation of windows, mac, bad, and linux boxes. This unit standalone has no competition; even chrome books. Find one of these cheap, and you will be happy for what you pay for it. And as explained above, if you have other boxes to offload / offset heavy projects onto, then find means to do so. This unit by itself was never meant to do heavy encoding or number crunching. But everyone has their own personal preference. Don't let my review dictate how you should or shouldn't use your own computer. Side note - when purchasing open boxes, don't leave the building until you check everything inside! Mine was geeksquad certified, but it was missing the power brick. There was the 3-prong cable from the wall outlet to the brick, but without the brick to magsafe, there's no way to charge the laptop. Bottom line - Awesome little machine. Other PC vendors attempts to copy from this one, but falls short in many ways more than one.

I recently purchased this laptop, and it is AMAZING. I was in between getting a PC or a Mac, and I now know that the Macbook Air 13" was the right choice for me. Like Apple always seems to do, this is a laptop with a very sleek and user friendly design. From the trackpad to the beautifully backlight keyboard, this laptop is great. However, design is not put over functionality (like some people say apple does). It has a great internal setup, with a fantastic 12 hour battery life, flash storage (which will speed up the computer), the all new Haswell processor (Sony VIAO Pro is the only other laptop with Haswell), it is just an all around great piece of machinery. I would like to point out that there is not a disc drive, so if you are someone who like to watch DVDs, make sure to get the USB Superdrive (a disc reader that can be simply plugged into the USB port on the laptop). If this review has not sold you, the Macbook Air 13" was rated as the number 1 laptop by PC Mag, CNET, Laptop Mag, and more. I am extremely happy with this laptop

This is a great small sized laptop. It turns on in mere seconds and remembers the windows and apps that were open before it was turned. The battery lasts for an impressively long time considering how thin the computer is, using it for surfing the web a few hours a night for a whole week was a common occurrence and it takes just an hour or so to charge it back up. Main thing I don't like about it is the MagSafe 2 charging cable. This charging cable magnetically connects to the laptop (which is great for those with kids or pets running around as if the charging wire gets snagged and tugged, it harmlessly disconnects the charging cable from the laptop) but the connector itself is also easy to inadvertently disconnect. The previous MagSafe design was much better. It was hard to find faults but you probably won't spend much time being tethered to the charging cable! The lack or conventional hard drive aides in super fast startup times, just a few seconds after the startup chime, you're ready to get done what you want to get done. But this also means the drive cannot be upgraded but you can use inexpensive USB thumb drives for more storage. This brings me to my last downside, there's only two USB ports and zero SD card (digital camera memory cards). Since the purpose of this laptop is mainly to be out and about as opposed to being tethered to a bunch of USB cables, it's probably not much of a concern for portable activities. Overall it's a great laptop and I'm quite happy with the purchase.

Although Macs are expensive computers, they are worth every cent. Sure maybe you can by 2-3 budget Windows laptops for the price of one of these, but this will last at least 2-3 times as long and be 10 times more enjoyable to use on a daily basis. Comparably spec'd Windows ultrabooks cost the same or more than this and still don't touch the quality or functionality of this. Touchscreen Windows 8 computers seem cool at first, but in practice are gimmicky and don't add functionality. The new Macbook Air line has more than enough power for almost any task you can throw at it with the exception of maybe hardcore gaming and professional HD video editing (although I don't do either of those things, so maybe it could even handle those for all I know). The battery even on the 11 inch model literally lasts all day as promised (unlike it's Windows competitors claim they can do, but don't live up to). Safari loads web pages faster than any Windows computer I have ever used. Free Pages, Numbers and Keynote (among other programs) and iCloud mean you won't have to pay the ridiculous prices for Microsoft Office 365. These computers have the best keyboards and trackpads in the business...period. Don't trick yourself into getting a cheaper Windows computer or a Windows ultrabook, buy a Mac and never look back.
