My 2nd Macbook Air, 3rd Mac Laptop - I Like It!
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendOutstanding battery life - I regularly see 8+ hours away from an outlet, more if I'm not using the internet. Impressive performance given its power-saving CPU. 4 GB of RAM may seem meager compared to a lot of the PC competition but don't concern yourself: OS X manages RAM much more efficiently than Windows so this is not a con. The solid state drive will change your life if you have not used one before - incredibly responsive compared to the spinning platter hard drives we've all been using for the past 30 years. This is my second MBA - bought to replace my 2012 because I had some great coupons, my first Apple was a 2008 Macbook Pro 15". Excellent resale value, durability of the aluminum chassis, superior build quality, and outstanding battery life keep me recommending the MBA to anyone who asks - the new Lenovo Yoga 3 is the only machine that comes close in terms of quality and desirability, but I am still not ready to pay $1300 for an otherwise unremarkable Windows laptop.

Pricey but Excellent Product
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendWhen I walked into BB to buy a Mac Pro Air, I expected to purchase the 11" screen model. Seeing the 11" next to the 13" screen I immediately saw I would be $200 happier with the larger screen. Absence of a User Guide has slowed learning all the features and logic of the OS. My experience has been with iPhone & iPad Mini, which act differently in many situations. My prior laptop is a Windows OS so the change is significant. My first Apple product was an Apple IIE in 1979, which offered no guide for modern computing. Keyboard is comfortable for adult fingers and track pad is slightly recessed, so wrists do not move cursor while typing. The ability to resize screen display with a two finger motion is a pleasant feature. Display is sufficiently bright. Online videos play well and the picture is excellent. Although the screen dims when running on battery. Unlike my previous laptop, the Mac Air is cool when sitting on my lap. It is also considerably lighter. Yet, the power cord is too easily detached and comes out without warning. The system starts up without delay. Since most of my computing is email and browsing, getting to my objective is quick and easy. I have been taking on-line courses, some with video and find the screen size and volume to be adequate for educational purposes. Since I do not use the system to print, I cannot comment on integrating print, esp., photo print interfaces. The App store fairly matches that of the iPhone/iPad selection, esp., Evernote. FaceTime and Apple iMessage work, so I can contact family on their iPhones. Haven't tried Skype yet. Lack of GPS is noticeable and a reminder that this is a laptop and not an iPhone. Yes, I have fingerprints on the screen from forgetting it's not a tablet. One complaint that is significant is lack of an email system similar to MS MS Mail or Outlook, thus my email history seems lost unless I can find a work around. Also, the integration of Excell with Numbers makes me nervous. Oh yes, I use DropBox at work and home to share Excell worksheets. It is nice not having to worry so much about virus protection, firewalls and registry slowdowns.

Great except for aging eyes
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI initially bought the Macbook Air 8/256 for my wife's 60th birthday. Yes, she's absolutely worth it! She fell in love with it until she got Word installed from her office and found that all the title and menu text was painfully small and unreadable. We tried everything to make it bigger. While some things helped, such as gesture and keyboard zoom, nothing was really acceptable for her. I took the Air back to BestBuy and returned it without any trouble. Which is why, after some more research focusing on readability, we came back to look at the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro and the Macbook Pro with Retina display. We bought the Macbook Pro, had a tiny amount of training about how to adjust the display to get better font and icon size, and my wife is having a much better time now. The keyboard and the touch pad are amazing. The weight is delightfully light. The battery life? Full day w/o a problem. I am not an Apple fanboy. I've never bought an Apple for myself. However, the Macbooks are great laptops for people who just want to use computers.

Perfect!
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendFirst of all, I am new to MAC products. I have been intimately involved with technology since the mid-70s. So, am more than familiar with technology. I have an iPhone, and iPad, but everything else I own is Win-OS. MacBook Air has been perfect, out of the box. I've purchased a Seagate external hard drive, as this one comes with only 256MB inside. I've purchased the MAC CD.DVD drive, as this one comes with nothing inside. MACs are relatively expensive (compared to most Win-OS systems), but so far, worth it. Love the size, a LOT. I purchased this because I am away from home about half of the year, and cannot take my HP all-in-one desktop with me. It's (HP) somewhat portable, but not as portable as the MacBook Air. Everything I have (MAC-wise) travels with me in a small Targus briefcase, and I love it. I am retired, a photographer, and my kids live in a different state, across the country. Lots of nights in hotels, and I want my technology to sleep inside, not in my car. I drive a small car, so luggage space is a premium, for me. This laptop helps more than you can ever imagine. Small, yet powerful. Having said all of that, I am still learning how to do what should be simple things, one of which is to format flash drives and SD disks so that they work interchangeably with my Win-OS desktop. I need(ed) something small, but something that could talk comfortably to my HP, and so far, haven't figured it out. It's possible, but not intuitive nor automatic. I have a strange feeling that once I get very familiar with my new MAC, I'll not turn back. Love it, so far. But, can't stress enough, never buy any technology without first having a serious talk with yourself about what you plan to do with the new machine. Be certain that you adequately buy. But, don't ever underbuy. Overbuy is okay, if you have the pocketbook to handle it. Nice technology, for sure. So far, it is solving the problem for which it was purchased.

Great Laptop and Best Buy Purchase
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI purchased a MacBook 13.3" Air with 256GB Solid State storage and 4GB RAM from Best Buy on their last sale which was at least a $100 less then Apple Store price. Apple products do occasionally go on sale. This laptop sports a flash storage at 256GB and adequate only because of available Cloud online storage. The absence of a mechanical hard drive appears to have quadrupled my battery time. This is my estimate but you can check the actual specs provided by Apple. This laptop is really light without the hard drive and DVD burner. Yup, you will have to use a portable external one if you do CDs or DVDs. I personally am fine with the omission as the light weight helps if you need something mobile.

Skeptic converted!
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI was a bit skeptical of these. Windows 8 pushed me to take the plunge. Coming from PC based laptops, I was nervous about the usability and different operating system. It took a little time to get used to it but it wasn't too difficult as I was an iPhone/iPad user. Software included with the OS mimics all of the expensive MS Office programs. For all but the most complicated of spreadsheets/documents, this works great! It is much easier to use when you take out 50 bajillion functions you will never use. The only complaint is that the screen doesn't seem as sharp as my iPad. Maybe I just need to see an optometrist.... If Windows 8 has you singing a sad song and you can't stomach another disastrous OS from Microsoft, give this a try. Gamers and super-power users need not apply. There are other more powerful options available but this works for 99% of the world. I haven't found myself drinking the Kool-Aid at any Apple cult meetings yet but I can see why so many have abandoned the PC.

Ultra Portable
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendVery satisfied, this is my 3rd Macbook, 2nd Macbook Air. My first Mac was a 2008 Macbook Pro 15 and this computer is worlds better than its predecessors. Reliable, quiet operation, very thin and light, and the new Haswell processors give it an amazing 12 hours of battery life. Speakers are still impressive considering they are invisible and enclosed by this super-thin chassis. 2014 price reduction is icing on the cake - Macs still have great resale value. Screen resolution is only average at 1440x900 but fewer pixels helps battery life stay best in class. I don't think Apple is as special as they once were - they're moving away from creative applications and more towards mainstream productivity while only slightly lowering prices. However, to date, no Windows laptop can touch the battery life, and that lengthy time away from a power outlet keeps me coming back - looking forward to the Retina Macbook Air this fall.
