I have a macbook air and pro but I have had a problem when I open a large number of tabs in safari or chrome that the performance suffers I have a memory app that displays how much free ram I have and when it dips to around 150 megs or less, performance suffers, Macs use "virtual memory" when free ram is low, which involves swapping stuff from memory to the hard drive (SSD in this case) to free up ram, but this workaround can be painfully slow because a hard drive or SSD is much slower than ram. So I decided to buy the new macbookj pro with 8 gigs of ram. I was also interested in various improvements in this model-- better feedback keyboard, touch bar, touch id, faster processor, and better display. The 8 gigs of ram completely solved the browser performance issue. I have a ton of tabs open and always have at least 500 megs of ram free and usually more. I also enjoy the crisper display and tactile feedback from the keyboard, The touch bar is nice, but I wouldn't call it a game changer; the function keys were fine,. The touch sensor is great-- no more typing passwords to access the laptop. Just push your finger on the touch sensor (as you do with iphone and ipad). One minor issue is that the MBP only supports usb c, I have a logitech mouse (USB B) and SD card, neither of which works directly with the laptop. The solution for me was to buy a usb c hub, which plugs into 2 of the usb c ports and provides 2 usb c ports, 2 usb B ports, and 1 SD slot. It works flawlessly but it does protrude from the side of the laptiop, a minor annoyance. For example, when I travel, I pull the hub out of the slot so it doesn't get damaged in transit. But if you're primarily working with it on a desk, it's not a big deal. The hub iI bought is from qacqoc and was $70-- pricey but works great. http://www.qacqoc.com/ Another change is that usb c supports charging the battery so there is no separate charging port. You use one of the usb c ports with the usb c charger that ships with the laptop. I have read some reviewers complain about the battery performance. It has not been an issue for me and is very similar to the performance on my existing MBA and MBP. Overall, I love the new macbbook pro. I strongly recommend the 8 gig model. You can never have enough ram.

Purchasing a new MacBook Pro was a must since I began to do more video production and photo enhancing. Using most of the Adobe CC suite, which allows for a great deal of creativity. With having such great programs at my fingertips I needed a machine that would perform up the speed and specifications. This MacBook Pro meets and exceeds all expectations. Blown away and its only been a few weeks, looking forward to taking on more creative projects now.
