Doesn't quite live up to the title...

An overall enjoyable movie, but not too much groundbreaking here. Certainly not a big enough story to justify the "Extraordinary" title. Some borderline cliche elements (do we really need another steampunk story?) and predictable plot points made for a bit less wonder than the movie wants to evoke into its audience. And young kids won't find enough fun to hold their attention. There are certainly some fun elements and characters, but I would probably only highly recommend this to diehard animation enthusiasts. Not a bad movie at all, just not quite enough to prompt me to agree with the Fantastic moniker.

      Should Don Bluth meets Dreamworks

Touted as Miyazaki meets Pixar. I believe the correct comparison should Don Bluth meets Dreamworks with perhaps a smidgen of Matt Groening thrown in. A great premise, but the story falls short. The animation is nowhere Studio Ghibli and the CG is average. If you’re looking for Japanese (anime) style animation, look elsewhere. But for a light entertainment, especially for the younger folk (under 10) this would be acceptable. For good Steampunk teamed anime flicks, I suggest checking these titles: Steamboy, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and The Empire of Corpses.

Awesome rendition of a very complicated story of alternate history. Please, please watch first in french with English subtitles...then watch with the English dub actor voices (they are all very good, but the french voice actors really sold it for me), it is totally worth watching twice in a row. To me French animation artists, in the last decade, have really set a standard of quality (and beauty!) that is very underrated.

If you are a fan of modern animated films, especially those in the Miyazaki/Ghibli vein, then you will love April. It's beautifully done, with fun, funny characters and a fresh, original story. The voice acting is top notch too. Though not necessarily for little-little ones, I would absolutely recommend this if you or your kids liked Howl's Moving Castle, Kubo & the Two Strings, or Spirited Away.

We are huge Miyazaki fans. We own almost all of his films that are now in English. This movie really possesses the same heart and spirit. The story was new and exciting. We were worried about other reviewers about how this would be for kids, but we didn't find anything terribly upsetting. It can be a bit difficult for very young kids to follow, but they still enjoyed it.

This hand-drawn animated film from France is one of the best of the year with great characters, a clever plot and amazing visuals. The video quality is excellent. The audio is very good, too, but unfortunately only the English dub has a lossless track. The original French track is DTS Digital Surround but it still sounds quite good. The making-of featurette is short but informative.

April and The Extraordinary World is an amazing adaptation where Streambunk meets Animation. In a world where the world's most brilliant minds never had a chance to invent or make discoveries that we in this day and age take for granted... how would are lives be different??? This movie would be very close to how it would be.

We had seen good reviews for this movie online and had been wanting to watch it. We didn't find it on Netflix or Amazon, so we decided to take a chance and buy it. It was worth the risk, the movie was great! Fans of Hayao Miyazaki's work should enjoy this film, as the story line is well thought out and entertaining.
