Arlo Ultra 2 - cloud v. Direct storage on micro sd
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.Cameras work great. There is a 2 second delay between motion & start recording. I purchased a 400GB micro sd card and started using (see pics) the difference you have to download the image v. having it available + you can delete download but system will overwrite the SD card. I won’t need to pay monthly fee which was my plan for buying this device.

Extremely pleased!!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed.Cameras show a really clear picture. They were easy to mount. Only downside is battery life. I find myself charging them every 3 weeks or so. Much sooner than I anticipated. The Arlo app is easier to navigate and has more security features than Ring. The night vision camera is both color and black & white. You can zoom in live or in past clipped videos. Long wifi range.

Waste of time and money
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.Be aware, it's not good in bad weather ( wind, rain, loud sound...) I did averting, trouble shot, and called Arlo support ( case number attached), but it still did not help. So here is what I did; I lowered my motion detection all the way to 10 while the Arlo one is set to 80. After that we had to be 7 to 8 feet for the camera to detect us!!. I set it to 35% that is how it got 1300 motion videos. I also lowered my audio alert to 10 while Arlo one is set to 80. Has u can see in 48 hours I had 1300 motions detected, How can I read all the notifications in case of emergency!! I have 1000 Gate speed internet, the product uses half of my wifi speed, and my back camera keeps getting laggy. The picture with green spots on them shows that. If you are buying this camera so you CAN'T see license plates. My front camera is set to 14 feet from my car I still can't view my plate with zoom or no zooming on the video. The 4k video viewing on this camera good but nothing else. I'm not exaggerating the pictures speak for themselves. So it's a big disappointment, and I'm ready take it back unless Arlo ultra/Best Buy tech comes for free and make it work. Not to mention I bought the Arlo pro 4 which I returned after two weeks.

No to Arlo
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed.Where to begin. I had high expectations for this. A security camera that you might be able to see detail from. I currently also use Ring and Blink. Arlo has been the worst experience compared to the other 2,( Ring also has been pretty annoying.. but that is not for this review...) using the app and maintaining the connection. It has been a drag to open the app, just to see, once again, my devices are not connected. As I reconnect them, and randomly it seems, it doesn't even recognize me and makes me log in again. Video quality, nice if you like a daily does of Green Screen - it seems at least once a day I'll get a video of Green, no idea why. They tell you to keep the top 1/6th portion of the recording area not part of the trigger area, so imagine you might want to not get a trigger on something to the left or right - nope, can't have that. Zoom in to the action they say, touchy touchy -cannot do that reliably. Video recognition - according to Arlo a mouse detected is actually a person. The sensitivity adjustment of the camera might as well be removed it's either everything or not much. A car going past the camera on the driveway, actually coming towards the camera, is perfect to catch the taillights of the car passing by the time the camera activates, this with sensitivity at 100. However, now every single time the wind blows a branch or leaves the camera goes on seconds after the event, so pick and choose, no battery life and all motion detected although 2 seconds late, no motion detected, boy, that battery life is great. Ugh. Scrub through the time or reverse sometimes works, or it will just switch to the next video in your list as you try to scroll. Power goes out? You're done, no more recording. I had a massive tree fall feet in front of Arlo and take out my power line in the process, I might have figured it would've recorded the falling part at least, before the power was cut. Nope. The other day, I got a video of nothing that I could see moving that lasted for 5 minutes long. It happened twice. As the set up goes, the 'anti theft mount' that you can just unscrew from the tension base, it's true, you wouldn't likely steal the mount, just the camera. The battery life, short, and don't you dare put the camera where you would only be able to access it with a ladder, you're going to be pulling out that ladder every 10 days or so. I bought the solar charger, Im not convinced Im going to even bother setting it up. Signal strength indicator goes from Strong, poor, ok, weak, strong, no signal in an area that is literally half the distance that Blink is at and connected to perfectly ( and those batteries have lasted for months ). Cost for connection- clearly in comparing the $250 something camera to $80 ish camera- connection isn't that important to Arlo. Subscription service for the recordings, I'm glad as of now that my service is still included, why charge for saving my bushes blowing and green screens.

Arlo implements wireless well
|Posted .Tl;dr: This wireless camera package hits all the right marks with battery power and 4K video clips. The misleading Cloud Video Service and inclusion of only a single, short charging cord put this on the higher cost / lower value side of the scale, which costs this a star. The dedicated network and impressive AI event recognition help to future proof this camera system and make it a worthwhile high-end choice. Arlo’s security cameras can be placed anywhere for an extended period of time. They conserve battery by recording only when there is something worth seeing. The company estimates that batteries can last as long as six months. I haven’t had the cameras installed long enough to test that claim, but it’s highly dependent on how much activity is actually occurring. I have one camera set up in my hallway to monitor if my daughter is actually focused on school work. That battery is depleting at about 10% per day. Another camera is pointed at the front stoop and has captured only one snipit. That one has only depleted ~1% per day. Charging takes a couple of hours to get back to full. The kit comes with one 2 ½ foot charging cord. Overall set up was pretty easy. This kit comes with a base station that requires a wired connection to your network. From there, the app you configure the base station and connect to the cameras. Make sure you don’t put the batteries into the cameras until you are ready to connect them to the base station. As each camera is added, you can name it for the area you expect it to cover. The video is very clear, even in lower light. Video switches to black-and-white when it’s too dark for color. There’s also a built-in LED spotlight. While the spotlight doesn’t carry far, it’s enough to highlight someone moving close to the camera. The spotlight will automatically turn on when motion is detected. This allows the camera to act as a deterrent since potential ne’er-do-wells will notice the light and know they are being recorded. Arlo offers multiple subscription options. While this base station has a spot for local storage, Arlo’s subscriptions bring significant value. There’s a $14.95 monthly plan which sends you alerts based on different types of activity (i.e. person, package, audio alert). Tapping the notification gives you a clip of what caused the alert. You also have the option to contact 911, initiate a siren, or talk back through the camera. Further, you can initiate a live view in 4K resolution across 180° field of view. Without the subscription, you will not have access to the camera or recordings outside of your home. You would only have access to videos stored locally in the base station. A three-month trial subscription is included in the initial purchase. The AI intelligently zooms in on the section of the frame where activity is occurring. An additional $9.95 monthly add-on provides continuous cloud video storage. Please note, this is only available if you have the camera plugged in and charging at all times. It will not work in battery-only situations. This requires having power near your camera location and eliminates one of Arlo’s biggest selling points (battery power). Unfortunately, the app does not tell you about the continuous power requirement until after the subscription is purchased! While the specs on this camera set up are impressive, the software is what all pulls it together. Fortunately, Arlo knows this and has put significant effort into the app. If you can get past the quirks of the subscription packages, this camera system should do well for you long-term. I received this kit as part of Best Buy’s Tech Insider Network. Reviewers in this invitation-only program are provided products for the purpose of writing honest, unbiased reviews.

Q: QuestionIf I purchase an Arlo Ultra 2 Kit that comes with a base station, can I also add other addon cameras that are not Ultra? Such as Pro 3 cameras or some of the other 1080p options and sync them to the same base station? Thank you!
Asked by Austin.
- A:Answer The Arlo SmartHub VMB5000 is compatible with the following Arlo products: Arlo Ultra, Ultra 2, Essential wire-free, Pro 3, Pro 3 Floodlight Camera, Pro 2, Pro, Wire-Free, Video Doorbell, and Audio Doorbell. ^KN

Q: QuestionCan you hook the base station to a monitor using HDMI? If I installed 10 cameras how many solar panel chargers would be needed? What is the actual battery life if you didn’t use solar charger?
Asked by Mdsy.
- A:Answer So many good questions and here are your answers: 1. Yes and no with the HDMI connection. Not a direct HDMI connection to the monitor from the base station, but through your desktop or laptop via online account connection. 2. Each camera will need it's own power source as the Arlo branded solar panel or extended magnetized power cord only has one charging connector. 3. Battery life is dependent on activation usage. Mine varies from 3 to 6 months depending on how often the motion sensor is activated and records, whether I have it activate spot light and siren or talk through it. It is dependent on usage. Your usage amount might be different from mine to the next person. I have a condo in the city that I haven't been back for a few months due to the high infection rate. My batteries will last about 6 months with about once every two week motion activation as the doorman delivers my mail and packages to my front foyer 5 minutes activation and spot lights per occurrence. My housekeeper once every three weeks for an hour to dust and maintain place, Occasional checking the place and panning around once after my housekeeper leaves for about a minute or two. So, not a lot of daily usage for my batteries to last at least 6 months before another charge. Hope this help. My suggestion would be before considering solar panels or wired connections, try using the system for a month and see how much battery life you have from your app. from your usage.

Q: QuestionIs the Arlo Ultra 2 Spotlight camera battery powered only or is there an option to hardwire the camera to power?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer There are 2 power charging options: (1) Arlo Solar Panel Charger, (2) Outdoor Magnetic Charging Cable (25 ft). The solar panel has a built-in magnetic cable. The magnetic connection is on the bottom of each Ultra camera. Note: battery installation is still required but you won't need to remove them to for charging

Q: QuestionIs it a requirement to have a HUB of some type, or can you manage the camera's directly from a mobile device?
Asked by Matt.
- A:Answer The Ultra 2 does need a smarthub or base station to operate. However, once paired to a base station all devices can be managed through the Arlo app.
Answered by avitguru
Q: QuestionDoes this work in extreme cold temperatures? What is the minimum temperature that it will still function? The older systems did not work well in cold temperatures.
Asked by adk93490d.
- A:Answer The operating temperatures for Arlo Ultra 2 are: -4°F to 140°F (-20°C to 60°C). The Arlo Ultra 2 cameras work in a wide variety of weather conditions, including sun, wind, rain, and snow.^KN

Q: QuestionThe Arlo Ultra 2 support 1 TB Sd card and loop recording? Thanks.
Asked by Calvin.
- A:Answer I had the same question and Arlo support states, the base station VMB5000 supports micro-SD cards up to 256GB
Answered by Orevin
Q: QuestionHow far can the camera be from the base station and still transmit a clear signal?
Asked by Abbster.
- A:Answer You can place your Arlo camera a maximum of 300 feet (90 meters) from the SmartHub or base station. The maximum line-of-sight range of 300 feet is reduced by each wall, ceiling, or other major obstruction between the camera and base station. The following materials reduce signal strength the most: Large quantities of water, such as the water in a fish tank or water heater Metal Glass, especially mirrors Ceramic Stone Concrete Brick Unusually thick walls and ceilings
Answered by Arlo Team
Q: QuestionHow many cameras can be added to the Ultra 2 system?
Asked by Vince.
- A:Answer As far as I know you can have up to 20. So far I have 12 hooked up & I absolutely love them! I will eventually add a few more in the future.
