I needed a new cable modem to replace my cable company-provided equipment. It is really silly to pay a monthly rental fee for equipment that you can purchase. The payback is really quick (usually 6-8 months) and then you are in the clear. This is a fine modem and AC-capable wireless router combination. The AC signal will reach a long way, through walls and should serve for almost any sized apartment and most houses. If your equipment is not AC compatible it also sends B, G and N signals. The wireless router will automatically shift devices between the 2.4 HZ and 5 Hz bands to equalize the load and thereby maximize the throughput. The cable modem is very reliable. A cable technician advised me that the Arris 6700 can handle 250 GB to 350 GB for sustained periods, unlike many other modems which are rated for that speed but only on a peak basis, not a constant data transfer rate. The device is very compact and clean-looking. One drawback is that is has just two Ethernet connections on the back. For most this will not be an issue but I have a VOIP phone which must be connected through an Ethernet port and a desktop computer which also requires an Ethernet connection. That fills both ports and leaves none available for other purposes. Since I often work on repairing old computers I frequently need additional Ethernet connection ports to download software and drivers to those computers. The only easy solution is to add a port expander (and fortunately I found an old one in one of my many boxes of parts.) A more significant issue is that this cable modem will not support whole-home DVR systems like TIVO and Xfinity. Those systems require a networking technology called MOCA which uses the coax cable to transfer multimedia content from the main DVR to the satellite units at other TVs. You can buy a MOCA adapter to overcome this problem but I wanted you to be aware of it if you are considering this cable modem. Overally, a very nice WiFi-router/cable modem combination as long as the above limitations are not an issue for you.

I have TWC and had a Netgear CG3000D which I bought in 2014. I live in a hi-rise coop in Queens on the 14th floor (with over 200 units). I only used the Netgear for WiFi internet (no ethernet cable). I work from home in my "office". The modem/router is in the living room and my home office is about 30 feet away. In the morning, the connection would be fine. By 2p or so, I couldn't load any pages (granted I don't have the fastest speed available - paying the cheapest available). Speedtest wouldn't even run because there would be little or no connection. Had to unplug the power at least once a day which became very annoying. TWC came and said it's the modem/router. The tech guy said to get a new modem/router with 5GHz/"AC". That will help since I live in a building sharing internet with everyone and there would less interference (a lot of devices use 2.4GHz). If that doesn't work, he then said to upgrade my speed which I didn't want to do since I mainly surf the web and write emails. I read reviews about SBG6700-AC and bought it. It's AMAZING. I called TWC and gave them my numbers and I had internet immediately. Setup was easy! At first, I had my MacBook Pro (in my office) connect it with 2.4GHz. Same thing happened with the Netgear. Very slow connection and would take forever to load my gmail or Facebook pages. However, when I connected it with 5.0GHz, it was a MIRACLE. Problem solved! I've had the Arris for over 2 weeks now and I haven't had to unplug the power or anything. I run speedtest and I get the speed I'm supposed to get in my office (30 feet away from modem/router in living room) and in my living room. The modem/router itself is smaller than the one I had for Netgear. Love that. I am very pleased with the purchase and I don't have to upgrade my internet speed. If you are having slow connection speeds, you may just need a router that has 5.0GHz or "AC". Don't cave in to the ISP to "upgrade" your speed and pay more if you don't have to. The great thing about this too is that you can run 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz at the same time. I highly recommend the SBG6700-AC. I called Bestbuy.com and picked it up at my local store. It was ready for pickup in an hour. Very pleasant purchasing experience and very happy with the purchase (so far).

Dynamite comes in small packages! Don't let its small size fool ya. A little history, Switched from AT&T Uverse to Xfinity and decided to buy my own modem/router to avoid equipment charges. Started with a cheaper Netgear C3000. It provided horrible download speed over wifi at less than 20 mbps within 5 feet of laptop, so after much troubleshooting and research, took it back and exchanged for this Surfboard model instead. Thank goodness I did! I Hooked the Surfboard in and it is running far better than expected. Xfinity rep advised me WiFi will not normally get full 100 mbps over wifi, and told me wifi normally runs at about half, in this case 50 mbps. However, to my pleasant surprise, I am getting up to 80 mbps download speed from as far away as over 30+ feet through multiple walls. Wifi Coverage and stability is good throughout my 1400+ square foot home. I have tested it running Netflix and Youtube on four different laptop computers at the same time, plus while browsing with my cell phone. All of them run simultaneously with no problems. I further tested download speed using my cell phone in the back corner of my house and download speed still tested at 48 mbps + at all times over wifi. Upload is stable at the expected rate of 5 to 6 mbps at all times. I continue to run random speed tests multiple times daily to ensure all is operating as expected. These speeds remain very stable. The unit has been up and running for 8 days consecutive since originally purchased thus far with no issues nor need to reboot. As others have identified, the indicator lights are quite bright so may prefer to position unit in area where this is no bother. Most reliable speed test site in my experience is here, http://www.speedtest.net/

I have TWC and upgraded to this Modem/Router because I now have 30 Mbps service. My previous router wouldn't be able to handle that much data. I previously had a Linksys router purchased in 2008 and it worked great. Reached all areas of my home with GREAT signal strength. The same devices in my house now have a FAIR signal. I cannot stream videos using Netflix, Amazon Firestick or anything like that anymore in my home. The Motorola/Arris tech said since the router is not centrally located in my home he cannot help me with the signal issues. Based off the fact that I had no issues with the previous router, that is 7 years old, I am disappointed in this product. The product sends off a strong signal close to the device, but is definitely weak through out the home. I do not have a large house. 2 floors and approx. 2000 sq ft. Take this information for what it is worth, but I'll be returning this product and upgrading to another brand and model.

Worked fine up till about three months ago. i noticed my phone wasn't getting good connection anymore like it use to, some of the laptops in the house wasn't getting connected at all, and my TV would all of a sudden start buffering. All happened in the past 2 -3 months when they all worked fine up till that time. i called my cable provider and they ran test everything fine on their end from what they said. and I called Arris and because my 2 year warranty ran out before they would even listen to my problem or anything they were going to try and charge me almost $40. $40 for probably a simple fix on their end. But they know and what they charge me $40 this time and then charge me more the following time or charge me $40 for a problem they cant fix and i just wasted $40 plus the cost of a new modem. I wouldn't recommend this product just for their customer service charge over the phone. Oh they said it was free to do a chat on their website. good luck trying to find that

My NetGear modem/router simply died, so I brought it to Best Buy for the rebate offered if I turned it in for a replacement.. The rep sent me home with a NetGear modem, which did not work upon set up because it was only the modem, not the modem/router combo. A second trip landed me this Arris. Setup was easy, and my internet provider rep pointed out I could divide my devices between the two wifi ranges on this device. One is a shorter range wifi with a stronger connection; the other is a longer range wifi with a weaker connection. Overall, the Aris is adequate. The wifi does fade in and out occasionally, and be forewarned - this mother runs hot and has colorful bright lights. Apparently, per reviews this is normal, but I don't like it, since I live in Phoenix, AZ, and I don't need more heat in any room in my house. I'll run it to the end of it's useful life, but I would not replace with the same model. The price is right, so if you're on a budget, this will do the job.

Fast dual bands WIFI router. Stronger Signal compare to my older Motorola Arris router. Cover my basement, first floor and second floor on a 3500 sq ft house. Dual bands enable dividing your bandwidth between 2,4 GHz and 5 GHz That way if you have lots of device you can distribute them between the 2,4 or 5 GHz band and not let 1 band clogged with traffic and slow down. The 5 GHz band in my case has less traffic and interference and thus faster. I have a Blu Ray player that is connected via Cat 5 cable to the router. This make the Netflix and internet streaming Blazing fast and not using up the Wifi traffic bandwidth Setting up is incredible fast and easy. Remember to change your Admin password. because the factory admin password is "password" anyone given the wifi access can log to 168.1....... address and take over your router . I recommend buying this router over other cheaper older Modem Wifi Router.

I purchased the AC1600 to replace my cable company’s modem and my recently failed Cisco router with one device. The flexibility and selectable user options made the AC1600 the perfect replacement solution. My knowledge of current network technology is limited so product support was also a primary purchase consideration. What turned out to be network interference from a nearby elementary school caused some initial performance problems. A frustrating 2 hour long attempt to resolve the issue through my purchased Best Buy Geek Squad coverage failed to resolve the issue so don’t waste your money with that added expense. A call to Arris product support connected me to an extremely helpful and knowledgeable representative who patiently walked me through the process of changing the device settings which resolved the problem in 10 minutes. Speed and range are great with streaming video and uploads easily exceeding what I was experiencing with my cable company provided devices. Well done Arris!!
