Not the Prince of old, but some funky tracks

I am a Prince fan from way back, and I'm very proud of my collection of B-side, outtakes, and bootlegs. I know that with the musical genius that Prince has, he's always testing the boundaries and exploring new sounds. Because I'm loyal and I believe in his message, I will always support and buy his music. But, I must confess, if this was the kind of music Prince started out with, I don't think he would have amassed the same magnitude of a devoted fan base that he has today. That said, "Breakfast Can Wait" is an very decent nod to the stylings of yesterday that makes him still be the baddest man in the land.

The cool thing about Mr. Nelson is he's been releasing music for 36 years now and still doesn't sound like an old guy. This more accessible co-release with Plectrumelectrum has all that modern sounding stuff (dubstep and whatnot) and isn't an attempt to recapture the golden 80's, but it's still Prince, and he's still got more ideas and lyrical twists and musical knowledge to draw on than just about any other living human. He gets it done with this one.

He's got this killer band made up of 3 very musical/rocking ladies that are supposedly playing on this album. Where the heck are the live rock instruments? Such a processed mess. I really thought it'd be a minimalistic funk-rock album. Seen them play on tv with this group. Nothing like this album at all. Certainly not a piece of trash but I think it'll be in the part of my overall prince collection that won't be listened to much

If you are a Prince fan as I am, you will definitely love this CD. Prince takes it back to his roots on thias one while still exploring new ground and pushing the boundaries of soul, R&B, Funk, and Pop. He stays true to form throughout the entire CD and his new band 3RDEYEGIRL compliment his style perfectly with their backing vocals and instrumentation. A definite must buy for true Prince fans!

I bought this CD and only listened to it once. It's got a couple of good songs on it but nothing really memorable. I probably need to give it a couple more listens before I can really write it off but I think the fact that I haven't really had a desire to listen to it again is a pretty good indication of whether or not I like it. Oh well. I still love the guy and will buy anything he puts out.

Oh my Lord, this is a phenomenal CD, that should have gotten tons of air play. Once again, Prince defines himself as the multitalented, genial funkmaster of all. Songs like 'It u cud be us' and 'funknroll'- c'mon! He CANNOT be outdone!

Best tracks on the CD are "The Gold Standard" with its irresistible funk, "U Know", and "Time". My only criticism would be that the sleeve itself is prone to scratch the CD and there is no lyric or picture booklet inside. However, the music alone is worth getting.

Although I prefer Prince's music from the 80's, his new music is definitely growing on me. Prince is one super talented individual with an amazing ability to continually adapt and reinvent himself. He continually keeps himself ever current. His newly released cd is very good.
