How Assured Living Works

How does Assured Living work? How can it help family members know if a parent might need help?

The Assured Living system sends real-time customized alerts to family members if the system detects anything out of the ordinary, such as sleeping much later than usual or not opening the medicine cabinet during the usual time frame. By using customized settings in the Assured Living app, the family and parent can decide together who will receive the alerts and which alerts they will receive.

Will Assured Living know if there's a fall?

The system is designed to learn behavior patterns and will send an alert when activity seems unusual. While the system cannot detect a fall, it can let family members know if there is no movement detected when it normally would be. You also have the option to include a wearable pendant1 in your package, which gives the parent access to 24/7 emergency response at the push of a button.

Is Assured Living available in my city?

Installation for Assured Living is available in 21 major metro areas: Atlanta, GA; Boston, MA; Charlotte, NC; Chicago, IL; Cleveland, OH; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; Detroit, MI; Houston, TX; Los Angeles, CA; Miami, FL; Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN; New York, NY; Orlando, FL; Philadelphia, PA; Phoenix, AZ; Rochester, MN; San Diego, CA; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA; and Washington, DC. I live in a different state than my parent. Will Assured Living still work for my family?

The caregiver and aging parent do not need to live in the same town or state. Currently, the parent must live within one of the 21 major metro service areas where installation is available.

Can Assured Living be installed in an apartment?

Yes, Assured Living can be installed in an apartment. There should be no limitations inside the apartment, since the system can be installed without screws and the control panel is a tabletop display. Doorbells, door locks and exterior cameras may be allowed, depending on association or landlord restrictions for modifications to the exterior.

What if there are pets in the home?

In most cases, pets are not an issue.

What if there are guests visiting?

Guests are welcome. The system will detect increased levels of activity, but having temporary house guests doesn't throw off the baselines.

Does the system work if there is more than one person living in the home?

That's fine too. The system learns the normal routines in the home.

Monitoring and Notifications

How do notifications work?

You can receive notifications in multiple ways. If you have a smartphone, you can receive push notifications. Or you can choose to receive notifications via text message, email or even an automated phone call.

How do I set notifications?

Through the Assured Living website or app, you can set your own notifications via the Notifications tab.

Can more than one family member download and use the app?

Yes, multiple family members can access the app, at no additional cost.

Product and Plan Options

Are all products available in my city?

Products in the Assured Living basic package (control panel, motion sensor, bed pressure sensor and door sensor) are available in all locations where Assured Living is available. Some customers choose additional products to enhance the basic package, such as a smart lock1 and smart thermostat.1 Certain additional products are not available for installation in all states.

If I start with the basic system, can I add more products later?

Yes, you can purchase additional products later. Geek Squad® can either install the new products in your parent's home or help you or a family member install the new products over the phone. Your monthly service cost will remain the same.

What if I need to cancel my plan?

Give us a call at 1-855-569-6538 to cancel your service at any time.

Can I return the equipment if this doesn't work out for my family?

For returns on products, please refer to the Best Buy return policy. If you need to cancel your service outside of the return period, the products are yours to keep.

Technology and Support

Who provides installation and ongoing technical support?

What level of technology expertise do I need to use Assured Living?

Once installation is completed by a Geek Squad Agent, the system works automatically. To access the wellness dashboard, you will need to be able to navigate the Assured Living app or website. You will also need to learn how to control any smart devices you choose, such as a smart doorbell1 or smart door lock.1

How reliable is the system?

The control panel uses a cellular connection instead of Wi-Fi. This allows for a more consistent connection. The control panel also includes a backup battery to maintain connection during power outages.

What is needed in the parent's home to make this work? Internet, cell phone, etc.?

Parents do not need the internet or a cell phone for the basic package. If you choose to include a voice assistant or smart home options like a smart doorbell, the parent's home will need a wireless internet connection. If the parent wants to view who is at the door, they will need a smartphone or tablet.

Privacy and Security

Are there any cameras involved?

Most needs can be solved by using door sensors, motion sensors and pressure sensors throughout the home. However, in cases where a family agrees that cameras are right for them, cameras are available to use with Assured Living.

Is the data collected by the system safe?

The data collected by the system will be encrypted at rest and in transit. All information provided to us is handled in accordance with our privacy policy, available at www.BestBuy.com/privacy.

Who else can see the data collected by the system?

At the time of installation, the Geek Squad installer and the Advisor have access to the system account setup information. No activity data can be collected during this time. After the installation, Geek Squad Agents may request limited, one-time access from the user if a customer seeks technical support.
