How Assured Living Works

What makes Assured Living different than other senior monitoring systems?

Assured Living is designed to be an affordable, noninvasive solution to caring for your parents as they age. Our solution sends you real-time alerts about a wide variety of caregiving concerns and allows you to check up on your parent 24/7 from wherever you are.

How does Assured Living work? How can it help me know if my parent might need help?

The Assured Living system sends you real-time customized alerts about your parent's activities. If anything seems out of the ordinary (based on your settings), such as sleeping later than usual or not opening the front door when they normally head out for their daily walk, the system senses the change and notifies you that something is unusual. It does this by using small sensors located around the house that monitor and learn your parent's daily patterns and can identify when activities are different than normal.

Through the Assured Living app, you control what alerts you get based on what you want to know, such as when your parent goes to bed or gets up, when they walk into the bathroom, living room or kitchen, or when they open a door.

You can check on your parent anytime to see their activity levels, whether they opened the medicine cabinet, what time they made it to bed and other details. Smart home devices allow you to lock the door remotely,1 see who rings the doorbell and talk with them,1 monitor the temperature in the home1 and more.

How does Assured Living learn about my parent's daily routine?

Sensors placed throughout the home collect data automatically, and after approximately 30 days, the system understands the baseline for your parent's activity. Once these baselines are established, the system can detect when something unusual occurs. If you're interested in seeing how your parent's activity levels are trending over time, the system provides behavior data for 60 days. You'll be able to see whether Mom is getting out of bed less since she started her new medication or whether she's gone outside more since beginning her new exercise routine last month.

Will Assured Living know if my parent falls?

The system is designed to track activity and learn behaviors and will send you an alert when activity seems unusual. While the system cannot detect a fall, it can let you know if there are no sensors being triggered when they normally would be. You also have the option to include a wearable pendant1 in your package, which gives your parent access to 24/7 emergency response at the push of a button.

I live in a different state than my parent. Will Assured Living still work for my family?

The caregiver and aging parent do not need to live in the same town or state. Currently, the parent must live within one of the 21 major metro service areas where installation is available.

My parent lives in an apartment. Can Assured Living still be installed?

Yes, Assured Living can be installed in an apartment. There should be no limitations inside the apartment, since the sensors can be installed with tape (instead of screws) and the control panel is a tabletop display. Doorbells, door locks and exterior cameras may be allowed, depending on association or landlord restrictions for modifications to the exterior.

What if there are pets in the home?

In most cases, pets are not an issue.

What if my parent has guests in the home?

Guests are welcome. The system will detect increased levels of activity, but having temporary house guests doesn't throw off the baselines.

What if there is more than one parent in the home?

That's fine too. The system learns the normal routines in the home.

Monitoring and Notifications

How do I receive notifications about my parent?

You can receive notifications in multiple ways. If you have a smartphone, you can receive push notifications. Or you can choose to receive notifications via text message, e-mail or even an automated phone call.

What are some examples of alerts I will receive?

You can customize all notifications to meet your needs and interests. Common notifications include the following:

  • Parent gets in or out of bed
  • Door left unlocked at night
  • Thermostat too high or low
  • Motion is activated at odd hours
  • Medicine cabinet is not opened

How do I set notifications?

Through the Assured Living website or app, you can set your own notifications via the notifications tab. Notifications can be general, such as knowing when your parent gets out of bed, or customized to be as specific as you want, such as knowing if your parent is out of bed for longer than 30 minutes between the hours of midnight and 5 a.m.

Can more than one caregiver download and use the app to keep an eye on an aging parent?

Yes, multiple caregivers can access the app, at no additional cost.

What kind of activity trends will I be able to see?

The information can provide insights into your parent's sleep patterns (for example, when they usually go to bed and when they wake up) and show you activity levels around the home that indicate how much they move around versus how sedentary they may be. These insights can be used to identify changes in routine, such as a decline in activities or sleep. This data provides valuable insight into the overall well-being of your parent.

Product and Plan Options

What does the consultation process look like?

One of our Advisors will come to the home and learn about your family's needs. They can then walk you through the Assured Living solution and recommend certain products to meet your needs. The consultation is completely free, and there is no obligation to buy.

Once your customized solution is complete, your Advisor will provide you with a proposal, complete your order and schedule your installation. Your Advisor is there with you every step of the way.

What products am I required to buy?

The control panel is the brains of the system and is required in order for Assured Living to work. Next, motion sensors, door sensors and pressure sensors give you the most insight into someone's activity and sleep, and are required. Other products are available as optional add-ons; although they are not required, each serves a particular purpose in caring for your parent.

Are all products available in my city?

Products in the Assured Living basic package (control panel, motion sensor, bed pressure sensor and door sensor) are available in all locations where Assured Living is available. Some customers choose additional products to enhance the basic package, such as a smart lock and smart thermostat. Certain additional products are not available for installation in all states.

If I start with the basic system, can I add more products later?

Yes, you can purchase additional products later. Geek Squad® can either install the new products in your parent's home or help you or a family member install the new products over the phone. Your monthly service cost will remain the same.

What does my monthly fee include?

The monthly fee gives you access to data through the Assured Living app or website, such as activity levels and changes in your parent's behavior. It also gives you notifications and alerts regarding the information you care about most. Finally, it allows you and/or your parent to help control safety elements of the home, including a smart thermostat, smart door lock and smart doorbell that allows you to see who's at the door and talk with them from your smartphone.

How do I use my AARP discount?

You will need to provide your AARP member information to the Assured Living customer care team or your Advisor in order to receive the AARP member offer. Either the caregiver or parent's membership is eligible for the discount.

What if I need to cancel my plan?

Give us a call at 1-855-569-6538 to cancel your service at any time.

Can I return the equipment if this doesn't work out for my family?

For returns on products, please refer to the Best Buy return policy. If you need to cancel your service outside of the return period, the products are yours to keep.

Who provides installation and ongoing technical support?

What level of technology expertise do I need to use Assured Living?

Once installation is completed by a Geek Squad Agent, the sensors in your parent's home will collect data automatically. To access this data, you will need to be able to navigate the Assured Living app or website and control any smart devices you choose, such as a smart doorbell or smart door lock.

How reliable is the system?

The control panel uses a cellular connection instead of Wi-Fi. This allows for a more consistent connection. The control panel also includes a backup battery to maintain connection during power outages.

What does my parent need to make this work? Internet, cell phone, etc.?

Your parent does not need the Internet or a cell phone for basic monitoring. If you choose to include a voice assistant or smart home options like a smart doorbell, your parent's home will need a wireless Internet connection. If your parent wants to view who is at the door, they will need a smartphone or tablet.

Privacy and Security

Are there any cameras involved?

Most needs can be solved by using door sensors, motion sensors and pressure sensors throughout the home. However, in cases where a family agrees that cameras are right for them, cameras are available to use with Assured Living.

Is my parent's data safe?

Your parent's data will be encrypted at rest and in transit. All information provided to us is handled in accordance with our privacy policy, available at www.BestBuy.com/privacy.

Who else can see my parent's data?

At the time of installation, the Geek Squad installer and the Advisor have access to the system account setup information. No activity data can be collected during this time. After the installation, Geek Squad Agents may request limited, one-time access from the user if a customer seeks technical support.
