Great laptop for the price
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very reliable laptop. I read some of the reviews and was not sure if this laptop would be very useful for working at home. After speaking to Evvon on the phone from Best Buy, he answered all of my concerns and I am truly happy with the purchase speed is amazing and the connection to the VPN at work is working great. I did have to contact the Firm’s IT guy for the remote access but this laptop is serving its purpose. Thank you Evvon and ASUS for building a great laptop. Face recognition is a plus.

Solid 2-in-1 Workhorse
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this laptop to use at university, but I've found it to be very enjoyable overall. This is a 2 in 1, but unlike some others that I've looked at, I didn't have to sacrifice productivity for this functionality, although it does command a slight premium over it's competitors. Pros- The thermals on this machine are fantastic, without the need for an obnoxious fan. The Intel core i5 (8265) delivers power when needed but base clocks much lower than its peak, which allows the thermal profile to remain in check. After regular use for the last few months I've rarely seen it go above 45°C, although it can under load. The M.2 SSD allows for lightning fast loading of files or data, and the seamless integration to the cloud with OneDrive will make you feel like your machine has much more space than what is physically on the drive. Solid construction including metal hinges make this a durable machine, and looks good doing it. The battery life is quite long, about 5 hours at full screen brightness with the backlit keyboard, and if you do not need the backlight, and are willing to turn down the screen and mute the speakers, you can squeeze almost 10 hours out of her, which is phenomenal. Cons- The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth share a card, which means using them simultaneously causes problems on the system. This is really only noticeable if you're doing something that requires a steady connection, but don't expect to make Skype calls with your Bluetooth headset on this machine. It does have a multi-jack, but sadly no Ethernet port, so this remains an issue that updating the drivers just won't solve. It may seem a little unfair but Windows 10 remains a big drawback of this machine. In the two months that I've had it, Windows 10 has pushed about 5 updates two the machine that have broken the Cortana search functionality and caused other system instabilities, including breaking Norton Antivirus and interfering with my VPN software. Whilst this is not ASUS' fault, it remains a con that any purchaser of the machine should be aware of: Windows 10 continues to have a haphazard update rollout that can and will break your software and driver functionality. Conclusion- Overall, it's the little things that ASUS includes that make this laptop worth purchasing, in my opinion. The included number pad is a great feature. When the screen is open, the bottom of the bezel has rubber pads that are designed to slightly lift the keyboard tray providing both an ergonomic angle, and providing ventilation to the logic board. The Windows Hello camera at the top has IR sensors so that the feature works in the dark. The onboard MicroSD card slot takes up less space and saves one the trouble of having to find clumsy adapters. The USB-C and HDMI outs make it easy to hook up to a monitor or TV when at home. Finally, I should mention that pricing seems to fluctuate a LOT on this machine, save this to your list and wait for it to go on sale, you could save yourself a few hundred bucks, but otherwise I'd give this one a firm buy recommendation!

A fast, well built laptop.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Q506FA is so new that there's little out there about it. Asus doesn't put enough info on their site either and there's no way to contact anyone at Asus. If you're wondering like I am about 12gb ram (16gb dual channel?) and SSD (500 or 1tb?) upgrades, I can't seem to find out, unless I open up the laptop and I'm not doing that until the warranty expires. Seems these days we buy something and just hope it works with no problems, as contacting anyone at any company is fruitless. It's appears to be a high quality 1080p touchscreen 2 in 1 laptop with just a plastic bottom. The rest is aluminum with very little flex at all. The screen is bright with good colors, no washing out or screen bleed and no dead pixels. Glare is not bad either, but I do mostly use this indoors. I really enjoy typing on this and I'm used to a mechanical keyboard with my desktop. The laptop angles slightly high in the rear to help with wrist fatigue and the buttons have a tactile feel to them. The white back light helps in dim or dark rooms and is adjustable with the function keys. I tend to use a separate mouse, but the track pad seems to work well from the couple days I have used it. You can always just flip it over and use your fingers in tablet mode too. Since I don't have a Switch, I thought about upgrading to a gaming laptop. I really didn't want to deal with a heavy, thick laptop with cooling issues. Luckily, with a ps4 pro I just use remote play. It's pretty easy to set up and I'm able to get 1080p/60fps gaming on the laptop. I do have fast internet, but this is with both the laptop and ps4 pro on 5g wifi. I'm still amazed how smooth and clean gaming is every time I boot it up. I did have to do a large windows update. After finishing windows updates, it then tells me I have a new version to download? Then why did I update the previous version? So I download and update the new version. I notice I've now got 50 gb used of the 256 on the SSD. It didn't delete the previous windows 10 version taking up about 18gbs of space. I deleted that and numerous bloatware programs to get it back. I spent another hour going through all the settings to protect some of the little privacy we have left. There are many, so search for a windows 10 privacy tips article. The bad experience, besides not being able to talk to a person at ASUS, was shipping. UPS delayed shipping, as it sat in one place for 3 days. Once I received it, the package was left on the porch sometime after 5pm. We had no idea it was there, so it sat outside all night. Luckily, we had no rain, but the box was all banged up with no FRAGILE label at all. I open it and the laptop box was packed very loosely inside the outer box. I started taking pictures, thinking it was broken for sure. Somehow, it wasn't and it actually worked fine. Whew! The other discouraging thing I noticed during this purchase was I paid $599.00, then as I'm tracking the package I notice two days later it's $649.00, two more days...$699.00, where it's stayed now.

Disappointing in some respects
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is solid and nicely designed, with a glassy screen*, quality keyboard (which Asus has cleverly engineered with a downward slope when open), and the required click pressure on the touchpad (unlike HP Envy) is perfect. The disappointments are: - the sound (my phone is almost louder and fuller) - the backlighting barely shows the ctrl options on keys - the battery life seems to be pathetic - maybe a couple of hours. - its hard to open because there's no top finger hold - you basically have to pull the bottom down while gripping the top somehow. (I think the reason is the bezel at the top of the screen is very narrow, which is aesthetically pleasing.) *The problem is - and this is just a generic comment - that the superhigh resolution (1920*1080) is great for Netflix, but the default 125% scaling means type is not that sharp. Yes, you can lower the resolution, but it always has to be a compromise.

Excellent Mid-range Laptop
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Guys, this is the first time ever I have given a review in my life for a laptop though I've been using several laptops for the past 15 years. I am into IT, and I've been looking around to replace my current Dell laptop. When I purchased this product about a month back, I couldn't able to see many reviews out there, but with the specs and the price I thought of giving it a shot and trust me it blown away right from the way it looks, design, specs and more important the performance so far is exceedingly well in the mid-range segment. As I am not a gamer, so I cannot comment on how it performs on the gaming side, but still I trust it will do its job with its super HD screen. For the guys who're doing work from home, and you're on budget, just go ahead and try this and Asus/BestBuy will not disappoint you at all. Being into IT, I've loaded my laptop with bunch of softwares and I never see any lag in its performance, I used to have an i7, 16gb ram in my old dell laptop, but this one I see is performing better than that. It could be the latest processors or could be an SSD. And the battery life for my daily work from home job is superior and it gives me somewhere between 6-9 hours depending on what I do. However, the battery will drain a bit faster if you're a heavy videos/movie watcher and it isn't bad though, you'll still able to get at least 4 hours on full brightness. While shopping, this was kept in discount of $200 and further I've to apply some coupons through my credit cards and for the price this powerhouse I received is awesome and I will give 5 out of 5 for the product and the continuous support from BestBuy. Asus, Take a bow for this excellent piece from your company. I really appreciate and hope you continue to surprise the customers especially who're new like me!!! Stay safe and healthy.

A real sleeper in the Asus lineup
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: - One of the best quality glass screens I have seen on a laptop. Sharp, crisp, clear, great color saturation. Touch capability is also quick and fast. Really outstanding. - The keyboard is one of the best out there, really, really comfortable to use for moderately heavy typing load. Legibility is improved by using the F7 key to turn keyboard lighting up to a higher level than default. - My unit tested out with an overall Passmark score of 2,345, ranking it in the top 20 of the 200 plus tested machines with the Intel i5-8265UC chip that is in this laptop Really a quality set of components Asus has assembled in this close to budget priced laptop (a real sleeper model in the Asus lineup, often available for around $700). - Browsing, email and Office apps all work smoothly and fast. Do not miss the GPU, but not a gamer either. - 360 degree hinges work well, and look very robust. - Top appears to be aluminum, base plastic, build quality overall high. Cons: - You can pay $500 more to lose a pound, but there is no free lunch, at 4.2lbs this laptop is probably not the best backpack laptop. We use it almost exclusively at home, so not a problem. - Bare minimum of ports, check carefully to make sure you have what you need before purchase. - Battery life is mediocre, when streaming on wifi, will barely last 3 hours. - Screen max brightness might not be high enough if direct sunlight is on the screen. - Built in webcam is mediocre at best. The only thing that I am really disappointed in with all the video calls we are doing lately. About the same PQ as my 8 year old Acer laptop camera that this replaced. Says it is 720P, but looks strictly VGA to me. - More of a Windows con, but really Bill, two solid hours of updates to get a usable Windows machine....

Great laptop!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far, I'm loving this laptop. It's fast (especially compared to my old one) and has great visuals and sound. I had been worried about sound because I'd seen another review that said something about the sound being not great, but so far it's been above and beyond what I expected (again, compared to my old one so maybe it's a comparison thing). At this point, I've used the laptop mostly for streaming and general day-to-day tasks. I love having a number pad with directional keys. There are really only two things I don't like: it can sometimes be hard to see the labels on the keys and the up/down arrows on the bottom of the keyboard (not on the number pad) are a little thin for my fingers. Other than those small issues, I am absolutely loving this computer!

Q: QuestionIs the keyboard backlit
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Just purchased this keyboard and YES it does have a backlit keyboard....white. The brightness is adjustable with the function keys. Why ASUS said it does not is concerning. Don't try to contact ASUS for anything either. I've tried every way to ask about ram and HDD upgrades on the site. You can only get automated answers that don't answer anything. The days of customer service are over.

Q: Questioni would like to buy this now but am worried it might be cheaper in Sale during next black friday sale days. would i get back the difference? is there any compareable deal even a bigger discount than this?
Asked by uday.
- A:Answer I would wait and keep checking for a sale. I happened to get this laptop on sale the end of September for $600, $250 cheaper then the $850 regular price. Keep checking once a week up to Black Friday. But I would definitely say $600 for this laptop is a good price. After shopping around before buying it you can not touch a laptop like this for $600.
