Good Gaming Laptop for a tech savy gamer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all bestbuy should change the name of this laptop to Asus ROG Strix Scar II . Its good gaming laptop, however im having a problem how to set up the gtx 1060 as main display . I tried asus customer service but no response still. I tried the set up screen but only integrated graphics you can choose , the 1060 is grayed out. Because if i dont choose the gtx 1060 my game will not load up. The only way you can use the 1060 is to set it up on the armor crate software. For a non tech savy user this will be difficult. So i dont know if the hardware is broken or not....please help ! If i cant solve this issues I will be returned because i tried everything .
No, I would not recommend this to a friendBrand response from Asus_Answers
Posted .Certainly, a really good gaming laptop. I do understand the inconvenience this may have cause you if you're having difficulty setting up the Nvidia GPU to be the primary display controller. Please select it in the Nvidia Control Panel. Also, select high-performance inside Power Options. Setting it to high-performance will drain the battery faster than normal. Should you need further assistance with the product, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and I would be more than happy to help.
Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

Rodel

ASUS scores again
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this for a digital audio workstation (DAW) which is more CPU-intense than GPU. The machine dropped my application resource load on memory and processing from 100% to less than 10%. I am also able to use it for the Steam catalog. Total War Warhammer benchmarked at 117 fps, so the graphics are solid. I economized on the 1060 (6gb) vs the 1070 (8gb) and it seems to have been a good decision. The "Armory Crate" app is a performance monitor and it might be worth checking; I did see some wildly fast temperature swings, so I'm not sure of its accuracy, but it does report processor loads and RAM use for both the CPU and the GPU. Of note: I did have an initial issue with the graphics on Steam, but I found that there were a number of Windows updates missing. Once I processed the updates, the graphics ran fine. As with all initial setups of a Windows system, you may find you have to restart and apply patches a number of times to resolve issues. I probably ran about a dozen cycles before I was up-to-date. I read a whole bunch of reviews on all sorts of laptops where heat is a problem. Fearing a potential heat issue, I bought the squad protection for 3 years. I figured that if the box burned up, I'd be better off having the protection. About the only negative on this box is that the fans are loud when the GPU kicks in. However, I think this is a reality of the times: If you buy a hot box, you can expect a hot box. Final: The description has a misstatement about the size of the screen. This unit is 17.3"
