After mis-step with Samsung, I got what I wantedPosted .
After gambling on the Samsung Series 7 Chronos 15", and losing, I went back to the Tried and True Asus. And I am glad I did. This computer is everything I hoped for in relation to the price I paid for It. I wasn't left wishing for this or that, like i felt with the Samsung and it's horrible wifi design flaw. Pros: This laptop is very fast. Borderlands 2 plays with high settings(Not Max) in 1080P smoothly. Sails through photoshop with multiple pictures from my Canon 60D open at a time. Plays that same camera's 1080P movie files without a hickup. Editing those videos is trouble free and now fun rather than tedious. The Keyboard is very comfortable for someone with large hands, I am 6'6" and its wonderful. The soft touch rubber where your wrists go is far more than just a gimmick. Touchpad Buttons are very nice for puttin around on it, but for anything precise as always you will need a mouse. The upgrade ability of this laptop is wonderful. Supports up to 32gb of RAM (if you upgrade Windows to Professional), 2 Hard drive spaces, and a mSATA SSD slot. You can run three hard drives in this thing and maintain a CD-Rom Drive. That is quite handy. That Caveat of this is that you cant access the msata slot and two of the four Ram Slots without voiding your warranty. You can Safely bump your laptop up to 24GB ram and a two hard drive set up without voiding the warranty though, as the two ram slots that are not easily accessible are the ones occupied from the factory. Running Ableton Live 8 or Fuitly loops was a dream, even with the internal soundcard. Latency was shockingly low for a built in audio chip. Still not as good as a external solution, but good enough to just plug in a midi controller and mess around without feeling like you are being held back. Cons: The only complaint I could make about this laptop is the subwoofer. In actuality, it is not a subwoofer. It acts as a full range, large driver. It will give you the lows no problem, but it does kind of throw the soundstage more to the left since it is not center and plays the midrange notes as well. Minor Gripe, but to be honest, I use a surround sound system and TV when gaming, and earbuds with microphone at the office. So I rarely use them and it is such a minor gripe it was hard to bring myself to mention it. NOTICE: A lot of the reviewers on here have complained about these crashing often or freezing often or something. Don't blame software issues(your fault or otherwise) on the hardware. A Properly set up Windows install would fix all of your problems. If you do not know how to d it yourself, pay geeksquad to do a clean install for you, and create a backup dvd of it with the clean install. If you don't reinstall windows once a year, you should expect to start having problems, especially if you are not tech savy. More than likely, people that complain of issues like these would have the issue on any computer they purchase, which is why all computers have reviews like those on there. And the review regarding feedback during skype.... you know that is what happens when you put a microphone next to a speaker that is playing that very same microphone right? Well, explore the microphone options in windows, there is an echo cancellation option that works quite well.I would recommend this to a friend

Can't touch this BEAST!!!!Posted .
I have had this BEAST for 6 months. I currently have SKYRIM loaded with 50 mods, including high rez textures, increased spawns, increased dragons, increased special effects - and the ASUS cuts through that game like a hot knife through butter! Same with the Witcher 2! Okay - so I upgraded it a little, I took off all the BB Bloatware (sorry guys, but it's really an insult to those looking for performance) installed a Patriot Pyro SSD and use the 1TB to store data. Upgrade memory to 16 gigs. I have run the BEAST for 10 hours until my eyes were crossed, my brain was aching, and my feet were swollen from sitting on te edge of my chair - but the BEAST stayed cool- and never crashed once. HIGHLY RECCOMEND! Buy this for 1200, make the 2 upgrades I mentioned, and you will STEP over Alienwares that cost twice as much. This laptop is the best because it was designed by Darth Vader and made on the DEATH STAR! muahahahahahaI would recommend this to a friend

Asus G75VW will not recover after hibernation. D-Posted .
This laptop does not perform basic function. I have wasted 5 days googling trying to fix my problem. When the laptop hibernates.. upon turning it back on.. it fails to start.. then says 'this laptop cannot recover.. delete reocvery information and reboot' so all of my web pages I was viewing.. all of my programs with half completed work are lost There are dozens of threads with no answers with dozens of people with this issue I am from Australia.. I am 6 weeks in the USA and bought this laptop last week in Pensacola Best buy.. the girl tried to tell me all of Florida and Alabama were sold out and that I couldn't get one.. After an hour of waiting for her to find the nearest store that had one.. she tell us we can have it delivered.. this is poor service. She could have said this at the start of the conversation.. Now Mira Mesa CA is the only store that has them in stock and the staff don't know anything about computers. I am flying from CA to Australia this sunday with a faulty comptuer that nobody will help with.. :(No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Gaming PowerhousePosted .I would recommend this to a friend
G75; a huge upgrade in overall quality to the G74. Sound: It now includes a subwoofer. I would say it's not the best but way better than average. If sound quality is a deal breaker for you as it was me, Asus has stepped up their game. Screen: beautiful 1920X1080 HD Screen. This is the nicest screen that asus has placed into a system in this price range. Colors and brightness are strong and vibrant. I would say that the screen is equivalent to Sony's F series screen if you are familiar with it; very nice. The graphics chip is also upgraded from the G74 system. Performance: The processor is gen III with the new 3d Transistors at 22nm. The processor is way too cool. This was my main interest for buying this system. USB 3.0 is also built into the processor. I feel that the hard drive is the only weak point of this system at 5400RPM. That means response time would make this system appear slow to those who do not understand how each component of a system contributes to its performance. Paring this system with an SSD (it hold two hard-drives but has one in it from stock) would make this the ultimate gaming system and portable powerhouse. System runs crazy cool and quite. Track-pad: It's average. It works without hick-up. There are multiple gestures, but not a two-finger tap right-click. The click buttons have a soft give with slightly long travel to them compared to the average track pad. It may take some a little getting use to. Battery: Battery life is as claimed 4 to 4.5hrs. Keyboard: The keys have a soft stroke to them and are responsive. My preference is a little firmer. The backlighting is a bright and clear white. The font on the keys are easy to see at night in case you need to look down at the keyboard. The keyboard deck is a brushed aluminum that transitions to plastic on the sides of the laptop and wraps around the back to the air vents. The deck below the keyboard is a firm matte rubber finish just like the top lid. Design: Somewhat plasticy. However it is a very sturdy build with a rubbery matte finish. It's a way ubber cool jet fighter-style design. Overall, I do feel that this is a very high quality system. Giving apple a five out of five for design and quality materials, I would give this system a four out of five. Compared to the G74, the air vents have been moved from the center back to the outside back. I'm much more satisfied with the slightly new and slimmed down design. Ports: HAS ONE THUNDERBOLT PORT (what Macbook Pros come with), all four usb ports are 3.0 (no more 2.0), Ethernet, vga, SD, line in, line out Summary This laptop is amazing and is well worth the somewhat steep price compared to other high-end gaming systems which will set you back much more financially. No regrets. I'm very impressed and Asus may have won me back over as far as brand loyalty goes. Also, Asus gives a standard one year free warranty with accidental protection for most of you who are unaware of this. You must find it on their web-page and register the Asus laptop for it. I'm impressed Best Buy actually carried a full-fledged version of this gaming system. I wouldn't dare touch their last watered down G74 system. The G75 is a huge turnaround and I’m excited to own it. The system is available now although most Best Buy stores do not have it on display. I recommend calling in and giving them the sku so they can check their inventory for it. Make sure they do not sell you the way behind (performance, screen and sound quality) G74 model. There should be a g75 sticker on the side of the box denoting the model number. Enjoy.

ASUS G75VW-BBK5 is Excellent!Posted .I would recommend this to a friend
G75; a huge upgrade in overall quality to the my 3+ year old Gateway. Sound: It now includes a subwoofer. I would say it's not the best but way better than average. If sound quality is a deal breaker for you as it was me, Asus has stepped up their game. Screen: 1920X1080 HD Screen (non-glare). Colors and brightness are strong and vibrant. The graphics chip is outstanding from the Gtx9800 on my old Gateway system. Performance: The processor is 3rd Generation I7 3610 with the new 3d Transistors at 22nm. The processor is way too cool. USB 3.0 is built into the processor chipset. The hard drive is the weak point of this system at 5400RPM (windows experience rating 5.9), so response time make this system seam slow. I have already ordered the OCZ Vertex 3 SSD (240 Gb) to upgrade the system drive (it hold two hard-drives but has one in it from stock). Track-pad: It's fine for a track-pad, I prefer to use an external mouse. Battery: Battery life is as claimed 4 to 4.5hrs. Keyboard: The keys have a soft stroke to them and are responsive. The backlight is a bright and clear white, which I need with my old eyes. Design: A very sturdy build with a rubbery matte finish. Overall, this is a very high quality system. Compared to my Gateway P-7805us, the air vents also on the back back but the intake is not clear. It has screens over the fans (under the covers) and comes with two extra screens. Based upon prior computer experience I'll cover the screens with Carbon pre-filters which I'll change out monthly to prevent cooling issues. Ports: It has 1 Thunderbolt Port , all four usb ports are 3.0 (backword compatible with 2.0), GigE Ethernet, vga, HDMI, SD, line in, line out Summary This laptop is great and price is good compared to the online version G75VW-DS72 ($2099) I had my eye on. Trade off was No Blue-Ray, 8 Gb DDR3 (1600) ram and no SSD at $1249. Amazon 8 Gb ram (2x4 Gb) for $45 and OCZ 240 Gb SSD for $279 and Blue-Ray writer (external-Slim) $99. Asus gives a standard one year free warranty with accidental protection, so buying the 2 year cost $349 for the extra year or $449 for extra 2 years (too steep for me).

Mobile Workstation for less than a mobile homePosted .I would recommend this to a friend
Despite the fond memories of a frantic evening at a Best Buy 3 years ago checking serial numbers on their entire stock of Gateway P-7805's and scoring a 1920 x 1200 screen, a great screen is no match for choppy video in Premiere Pro. The G75 cuts through everything I've thrown at it so far and is a great rendering machine for the price. No high speed fan noise yet. Have not tried the DisplayPort yet but am running two external monitors with VGA and HDMI ports - finally have my three monitor setup, maybe 4 with my iPad if I had a legitimate reason. I'm not minding the 5400 drive so much, 100 MB/sec transfer speed is working all right with AVCHD video. Using an SSD for OS and some programs. We'll see later how a USB 3.0 external RAID will do. All the ASUS drivers seem to be behaving after a clean Windows installation. The right side gets crowded with the ports filled up - a concession to the excellent cooling system we're told. Was sorry to find that the disassembly required to install an mSATA drive would void the warranty. Don't know if lack of 5GHz wireless will be of concern in the future. Would have liked to have waited for the Thunderbolt equipped models but I need to work now and so far no problems. Now I can't blame hardware for my lack of creativity and productivity. Thanks BB and ASUS.

Great gaming laptop!!!Posted .I would recommend this to a friend
This is the second ASUS G75 that I purchased because I liked the model so much. It has a wicked fast video card for a laptop and great for gaming... extremely minimal to no lag. One of the best features is that the fan ehaust and intake is located in the back of the laptop which allows you to place the laptop in your lap without a lap table needed. It also has a full numerpad which is great for working spreadsheets. It is a heavier laptop and probably would not be the best choice if the consumer has to travel a lot with it... regardless of the weight, I still chose to purchase this laptop and I travel abroad a lot. The keys on the keyboard are a bit noisey and can be heard by the listener on the other end... thankfully, there is a microphone sensitivity available in settings to lessen the sensitivity. Regardless if you are a gamer you will absolutely love the backlit keyboard... extremely conveinant accessory! Overall, this laptop is perfect for gamers/professsionals and you CANNOT beat the price!

Great build quality and specs; driver problemsPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
I consider this laptop an incredible value and I would recommend it to a friend despite the problems I've had with it. The build quality, hardware, and fit and finish are top-notch. I have previously owned two Dell laptops and one Toshiba. All three were much more expensive than this, and all three were of distinctly lesser quality. The keyboard is fantastic. There is no flex. The touchpad is great on a hardware level (more on that later). The display hinge is different from other laptops I've seen in that it has a better viewing angle both for laptop use and desktop use. The display is great. The best I've ever seen on a laptop (I have not seen the MacBook with the Retina display, though). Far superior to the other models I checked out when I bought my Asus, and far superior to the others I've owned. Great viewing angles, no dead pixels, great resolution, anti-glare finish. I have only good things to say about the display. I have had two problems with the computer. First, right out of the box the volume control didn't work. I could mute the computer, but I could not adjust the volume. Did not work in the system tray, the keyboard hotkeys, or the control panel. Nothing worked. So I downloaded the driver and that fixed the problem. Annoying, but no long-term problem. Second, I have have several software problems with the touchpad. At first, two-finger scroll worked only about 25% of the time. I re-downloaded the driver, and now it works about 50% of the time. Even on the same page without any reloading or changing, I can scroll once and it will work fine, then without moving the cursor or doing anything, it will not work the second time I try to scoll. Or the third time. It always works eventually, but scrolling is supposed to be intuitive and basically automatic, not inconsistent. At this point I can't tell whether it's broken or if this is just as good as it is supposed to be. Either way, not what I expect from a brand new computer. Bottom line, until someone shows me the flawless Windows notebook that has zero problems, I am happy that I chose this model.

- A:Answer For all the specs listed I believe this is a excellent gaming notebook. I have tested the graphics and 1080p video downloads and everything runs smoothly. Has a anti-glare screen which is nice. The only con about this laptop is it's so huge and weighs a lot. Call best buy to make sure they have the gaming notebook on display before going there so you can get a feel of the notebook.

Q: QuestionShould i leave battery out while laptop is plugged in for long periods?I heard when laptop is plugged in for long periods of time its better not to have the battery connected, is this true?
Asked by Superman.
- A:Answer When you laptop battery reaches capacity, it'll stop working off the battery and will receive its power directly from the charger. Having a fully charged battery with the laptop plugged in is not harmful. However, if your computer tends to get hot easily, it might be wise to remove the battery. For everyday computing, it should be fine in there. Remember, heat is a lithium-ion battery's worst enemy.

Q: Question1080 display? It says High def screen, so assuming it is 1080? And does it have anti-glare, or is it glossy? Best buy needs to add more information to their specifications. Since a lot of these are frequently asked for other products.

Q: QuestionDoes anybody know what physical size ram chip is gonna be needed to expand to 16 gb? I know that it's 8gb DDR3, but there are different sizes.
Asked by omgwowleet.
- A:Answer This laptop has 2 4gb ddr3-12800 1600 in it and it has two memory slots with nothing in them so you will need 8gb (2x4gb) ddr3-12800 1600 to add to it to achieve 16gb memory

Q: Question3D capable chip setOk, so I understand that the chip set for this laptop is capable of 3D display. However the screen itself is not. With that being the case can you connect an external 3D monitor or 3D TV via HDMI to achieve 3D display?
Asked by Golla2012.
- A:Answer This particular model is not a 3-D capable model. If you connect to an external display, 3D or not, it will not be in 3D.
