A: You need to turn off adaptive brightness... I hated it too! Windows 8.1 Press the Windows (Image: icon_Windows8_key.png) key + C, or swipe in from the right edge of the screen to open your Charms. Select the Settings charm, and then click Change PC settings. Tap or click on PC and devices, then select Power and sleep. Locate Adjust my screen brightness automatically. If this setting is not present, your device is not equipped with a light sensor. Tap to slide the slider under this option to On or Off depending on your preference.

Q: DVD Drive isn't playing?

A: On mine the DVD does not play movies. I contacted Asus and they informed me that there is no software included to allow the DVD to play movies. I was instructed by Asus to download VLC player or similar if I wanted a functional DVD player. Perhaps something similar is preventing your game from working

Expensive but worth it.
I paid a little under a thousand for this, and by the time I added Microsoft office and a two year warranty, I was in the 1400 range. So far, the ASUS laptop has been worth it, especially now that I have upgraded to Windows 10. Very fast. Love the lighted keyboard. But still getting used to the touch screen. Love the 10 key numerical function on the right. Love the thinness. It does not have a VGA output that some projectors need. But it does have hdmi output which most new projectors require. Has 3 USB ports, and a cd/dvd drive, and there was a miniature subwoofer that came in the box which was a nice surprise. I chose this over a Mac because of price and compatibility even though Macs are known for media projects. I do a lot of video and audio editing and this ASUS has not let me down yet. That is all.

Amazing laptop with 1 flaw.
Purchased on 4/24/15 This was a kind of spur-of-the-moment purchase after my previous laptop started acting up. I do a lot on my computers, so I needed something I could rely on and my old machine just wasn't reliable anymore. After poking around on Amazon and Bestbuy.com, I came to the decision to buy another Asus. I had actually picked the model with the 4th-gen i7, but when I got to the store to purchase, they had this model in stock on sale for $50 less than the model I had chosen. So I walked out with it feeling quite good about it. And boy was I right. This laptop is TOP. It's a very solid machine with an all-metal type body. The keys are placed very well and typing feels great. The keypad is small but somehow manages to be perfect. The screen is super bright and text is crisp. Windows 8 runs and feels great but I'm really excited to see how it handles Windows 10. Video games run SO smoothly. I play Skyrim and AOE through Steam and both look just wonderful. The sound is the best I have ever heard from a laptop. And with the included subwoofer, it BOOMS. Now to that flaw I mention in my headline....The keypad. Before buying, I had read a couple of reviews saying that the keypad was terrible, or finicky or just weird. After buying, I didn't see the issues and blew it off. It's now been about a month and a half and I've started to see one problem that went from being non-existent to extremely present. The right click button. This keypad does not have standalone left and right click buttons. It's one whole track pad with areas sectioned. It's gotten so bad that I can right click over and over again and still not get a right click menu. The whole bottom of the track pad acts as a left-click! It's extremely annoying when trying to correct misspelled words or trying to open links in another tab. This is actually the reason I came here to write this review. Just to warn buyers about this one little problem I've run into. If you plan on using a mouse 100% of the time, then you won't even notice the issue. I use one about 50% of the time and the other 50% this is a HUGE issue for me. It's the only reason I've docked the review one star. It's the only reason I'm here writing this review. It's the only problem I've encountered and as far as I know, the only issue with this machine PERIOD. Honestly though, don't let this discourage you from buying this thing, it truly is a great PC. Buy a mouse and enjoy.

Excellent laptop with high quality specs.
The Asus Q551LN-BSI708 is a 2-in-1 laptop that I would call a 5 hour workhorse, because 5 hours of continuous work is about all you’ll get on a single charge. This is probably not a good choice for the road warrior, unless you have frequent access to an AC outlet. That is probably about the only bad thing I can say about this laptop/tablet. Within the 5 pound, 0.9 inch thick frame of this laptop is the newest mobile Intel 5th Generation Core i7 processor (i7-5500U), and a dedicated nVidia GT840M (2GB) graphics card. The graphics and processing power of this laptop are the two main reasons I bought it. I do astrophotography so I needed something portable that I could connect to a telescope to do imaging, and then process those images with graphic imaging software. I also needed something with a lot of storage space, so the included 1TB (5400RPM) hard drive, 8GB of memory (upgradable to 12GB), and DVD drive made this the perfect choice for me. I ran a Passmark benchmark on this laptop and got ~4000 points. From my research most 2-in-1 laptops were in the range of 2500-3000. No doubt my score was the result of the dedicated nVidia graphics card, which if you’re a gamer you’ll be able to enjoy high settings and resolution. I played Battlefield 4 and got 40FPS on medium settings and resolution. This Q551LN also includes three USB 3.0 ports, which is unusual because every other 2-in-1 I considered only had one USB 3.0 port, with the remaining ports being USB 2.0. There is also a full size HDMI output port to connect to an HDTV or monitor. A few other things that make this 2-in-1 a winner for me are: illuminated keyboard with a 10-key numeric pad on the right side, 3-cell 48Whr battery, Gigabit Ethernet, AC Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and IPS touchscreen with 1920x1080 resolution. I highly recommend this laptop to anyone who can live with the 4-5 hour battery life.
