Not good with 2 inputs, RAPID repl. is a gimmick

The monitor has a problem dealing with 2 inputs - I have my Surface Pro 3 connected to Display Port and Comcast Cable box connected to HDMI. While I'm using the monitor with my computer if the computer goes to sleep the monitor unfortunately switches from Display Port to HDMI on its own even though the cable box is powered off. If I wake up my computer or even power off/power on the monitor with the computer awake the monitor does not come back to Display Port. The only way to get it back is through the Menu Input select which can be tedious if you have to do it multiple times a day. ASUS tech support was clueless, but eventually acknowledged the monitor is defective as it auto switches to a powered off input and does not switch back to the live input. Monitors 1/4th the price of this have the ability to cycle through and detect live input, so I was quite shocked to see this one doesn't and there is no way to specify one of the inputs as preferred. Since ASUS has no software driver fix they suggested I send the monitor so they could attempt to repair it. This monitor comes with a "Rapid Replacement" warranty (https://www.asus.com/us/support/article/690/) but I learnt that was just a sales gimmick as i) they can tell you that they don't have a replacement in stock while all retailers are happily selling it because "in stock" is in internal stock at their repair facility which a customer has no way of verifying. ii) they told me I was responsible for shipping but I told them no-way as I paid close to ~$500 because 2-way shipping was included and because of Rapid replacement. They grudgingly agreed to send me a FedEx ground shipping label. So basically 1wk for the monitor to reach them, 1wk for them to ship it back and at least 2wks for them to attempt repair. So under "RAPID Replacement" you are out of a monitor for at least 1 month. They couldn't even tell me if they were unable to repair what model would they replace with given they claimed to "out of stock" on this one. ASUS tech support in addition to being clueless (all they could suggest for troubleshooting was reset monitor) is unresponsive. I submitted an online complaint and got email receipt of confirmation (WTM20170107073834471) with response promised within 48hrs but it's been a week with no response and online status check just says in process. I was unhappy with the lack of "RAPID Replacement" so I asked to speak to a supervisor but wasn't allowed. I gave them enough time to have a supervisor call me but no one has so far ... You have to call them or get them on chat but then you get connected to clueless folks. Bottom-line the monitor is ok if you have just one input but very inconvenient with two, ASUS tech support is pathetic and "RAPID Replacement" is a sales gimmick.

I use this as a PC Monitor and I must say it's fantastic. Careful tho if your buying this for 4K gaming tho b/c your gonna need more powerful GPU's than I have. I have SLI GTX 760's and there not enough to run in 4k on anything higher than medium graphics. I must say tho that this only applies to the latest high end graphically intense games like MGS 5 Ground Zero's, Dragon Age Inquisition, Star Citizen, Far Cry 4. Besides my weeny PC having a tough time I'd highly recommend it. everything out side of gaming like movie watching playing other non high end games at 4k if they support it look great no hiccup at all. just be careful with text up scaling a lot of games will support 4k resolutions but don't have text up scaling which the picture may look nice but your not gonna be a able to read a darn thing, which stinks but I'm sure more and more games will catch up once they get enough feed back. I only seem to run into this on lower end games where they don't have HUD scaling options. all The High end games I mentioned earlier already have this in anticipation of 4k resolution. It has a very good anti glare coating on it that helps things look super crisp at 4k even in a bright light room. It has many different screen color mode settings that do come in handy in case your playing in a low lit room because the screen is quite bright encase you don't want it that bright in a low lit room. It's has 2 HDMI ports both of which I have my PS3 and PS4 plugged into and they both work and look great at their respective 1080p resolutions. I tested My Wii U on it and it looks great as well. The main plug it has is a DisplayPort 1.2 which Is important that it's 1.2 because you can only get 4k PC gaming at 60 hz when it's in 1.2 mode which it comes normally in 1.1 mode which you have to change by hand at first. Believe me your gonna notice the screen lag when it's at 4k 30hz, although I it ran the fine/smooth without lag if my pc was set to 1080p 30hz.

I do a lot of video editing, and Photoshop on my PC. The 4k resolution (3840x2160) brings lots of space for Photoshop and After Effects, Premiere Pro etc. No need for a second monitor, at least for me. For a gamer it is another story. I am running the PB787Q on a Displayport (DP 1.2) connection and at 60Hz. You will need DP version 1.2 to do that, otherwise you'll get only 30Hz. Same with the HDMI connection which goes only at 30Hz. My GPU (graphic card) is a Geforce GTX 970 and if you have another model I would suggest to read the card's specs first to see if it can at least get 4k at 30Hz. Otherwise you'll be stuck with a standard 1080p resolution. The stand of the monitor is very sturdy and the height of the monitor can easily be adjusted what I like very much. It also tilts and swivels. The colors are great right out of the box without even calibrating. The viewing angles let the colors shift a little bit but since I usually watch head-on, frontal it is not a big deal to me. I contacted ASUS support because initially when I connected the monitor via DP 1.2 I did only get 30Hz. The solution was that I missed a monitor on-screen setting which allows to select DP 1.1 or DP 1.2. Default setting was 1.1 and after I switched it to 1.2 I got the 60hz. For games and video the refreshing rate of 60 Hz is what you want.

    Great Monitor!

I bought two of these Asus PB287Q for my Mac Pro (Late 2013 base model with AMD300 graphics) and wow, what a difference. I'm not a computer nerd, but I had two HP2711x HD monitors that are still good, but these Asus monitors are great. I use it for normal work/school stuff web searches, email, spreadsheets, and the occasional video. Text is clear and easier to read than on my previous HD monitors. I can only play sound out of one or the other monitor (A Mac issue, not a monitor issue) and the monitor controls are a little screwy to work with, but they work fine if you're careful. The base is solid, the adjustment height is very nice (can move the monitor screen without much effort but it doesn't drop unexpectedly either) and it is simple to set up on a desktop. Mine have a funny popping sound when waking the computer up from sleep, but it hasn't caused any issues. I use a mini-display port to Displayport cable to get the 3840x2160 at 60Hz (found on Amazon, search Accell) but you have to scale the screen resolution as the 4k is just too small to read. If you have a Mac, hold the option key down and click Scaling under System Preferences Displays and select the option that works for you. Great monitor and I highly recommend. Watch some 4k videos on it; it's awesome.

Wonderful Monitor, But Needs A Little Setup

This is a gorgeous monitor. Colors and text really stand out compared to my old 1080p monitor. 4K content stands out incredibly well. It comes included with a DisplayPort cable as well as a HDMI cable, a huge plus. Note, that for this monitor, only through DisplayPort will you get the 4K resolution, through HDMI you will only get 1080p. Make sure your GPU has a DisplayPort connection. Couple things you'll have to do when you receive the monitor. - You'll want to set the DisplayPort version from 1.1 to 1.2 through the OSD menu. - Configure your GPU to run at 60 Hz instead of 30 Hz that comes standard. - Your monitor may have a popping sound when you turn it on. This is the sound from the speaker. To turn off the popping sound, go into the OSD, go to Sound. Turn Volume to 0, leave mute to the OFF setting, and change the Source to Line In. That will resolve that issue. - Brightness may be a little high from factory, I adjusted mine to 70. A beautiful monitor for games and to allow me to multitask while I program. Excellent price as well. Highly recommended monitor!

    Almost perfect

The perfect Monitor and just the right size for a desktop. It has a great display stand that lets you rotate in and raise it up and down pretty far for a desktop stand. It can also be attached to a wall mount because it has the screw holes for it in the back of the monitor. Gaming looks fantastic in 4k 60fps when using the Display port plug in 1.2 mode (you have to set this by hand in the monitors menu). The picture in picture mode works great but I hardly use it but it does work and well! The only draw back of this monitor is it lacks HDMI 2.0 to play 4k at 60fps. I believe it will play 4k but only at 30fps because it only has the HDMI 1.2 plug. On that note dont buy this monitor if you are looking for a 4k screen to use on the new PS4 Pro or the new Xbox slim. Those two consoles only output options are HDMI and if you want the full 4k experience with those consoles you need an HDMI 2.0 capable monitor/TV. The monitor was made well before both of those devices where on the market so I cant blame Asus. On the other hand if you are a PC gamer like myself this is a great value 4k monitor if you are using any of the new GTX 10 series graphics cards that can output 4k 60fps+. I believe this is the cheapest monitor that is 4k at a decent size that wont break the bank, that can utilize 4k and you will be able to tell the difference between 4k and 1080p. Although best buy sells slightly cheaper and larger 4k TV's they are only HDMI 2.0 and lower input TV's, but those are TV's not really meant for fast gaming where you need fast refresh rate.

    Flickering & Scrolling Horizontal Lines

    Posted
    Davixster

I ordered this monitor 6/10/15 through the store and received it 6/19/15. The monitor started flickering with horizontal lines that scroll up, down & blink July 4 weekend. I informed Best Buy July 7th (19 days after I got it) and was told I'd have to contact the manufacturer. Well I did that (I won't go into the nightmare that was) and got my monitor back yesterday 8/6/2015. Can't plug it in because I didn't get the base back! Well, I could technically plug it in but just lay it down on the desk or maybe hang it on the wall for viewing? I'll keep you posted if this gets any better.

I spent $400 on it. Seems to be good quality, sturdy, lots of adjustable options, and from my understanding, has a really good factory warranty (hope I never need it). There wasn't a manual in my box, so one has to feel around pushing buttons to figure out how to power it, and you're left wondering if you're using all of it's features correctly. Personally, bang for buck, I do think 4 K is a bit over-rated. Roommate bought a different brand, same size for $150 bucks, isn't 4 K but through my eyes, especially by having that curved bend to it, the one he bought provides an equally impressive visual quality. I'd actually trade him if he'd pay me the difference in price. I'll know more once I buy a 4 K camera to see if it's really been worth the investment.
