Q: QuestionDo you have to pay a monthly bill for the wifi to work?(9 answers)
A: AnswerThis device is not a modem, it is only a wireless router. A router has two functions: First, it automatically shares a single internet connection with all of your computers, tablets, smart phones (while they're connected to the wireless router instead of cellular data), and other devices like a smart thermostat or doorbell camera. Second, it lets all of those computers, tablets, phones, etc. "see" and communicate with one another (example, a computer or tablet can print to a wireless printer, or a smartphone can "talk" to your smart thermostat). A modem is still required to connect to your cable or phone company to "convert" your DSL or cable internet signal into a signal (called ethernet--that's the plug that looks like an extra wide phone jack) that the router can use. Many cable and DSL modems actually have a wireless router built in. (Combo units like that eliminate the need for two separate devices.) To get an internet signal, you always need to pay for that--no getting around that part. There's never a fee to use your own router, but there usually is a fee ($5-10 extra per month) to rent a modem from your cable or phone company. Your alternative is to buy your own modem and router, or a combination modem+router unit, and contact the cable or phone company to set it up for your connection. In my experience, it's easiest to buy a DSL modem directly from the phone company because there are multiple connection standards and you need to go into the DSL modem's advanced settings to make it work, but it's fairly easy to buy your own cable modem from a store like Best Buy because the cable company has an easier time accessing it from their end to make it work. I suspect you might be looking for a combination modem+wireless router unit to avoid the $5-10 fee. If that's the case, this is not the unit you're looking for.Answered by Joseph
- A: AnswerYes, this router supports gigabit, but before you rush out and buy this, be aware that it may not solve your problem. If you're on a wireless device, the adapter built into your device, as well as distance from the router, and which band you're using, are all just as important as the router you're using. You have to make sure you're on the 5Ghz band and support Wireless-AX (aka wifi 6) on your device to take full advantage of this routers capabilities. It's very rare to get a full gigabit on wireless and probably impossible to get with your current devices. It would take a 5 gigabit capable device to get a full gigabit on wireless. That being said, if you are using a wired device, which it sounds like you are, then any router/switch combo device that is 10/100/1000 capable will pass through gigabit.

Q: QuestionHow many square feet does this cover(1 answer)
A: AnswerNot sure of the exact square footage, but I put one in at a client who is a gym and it covers the entire gym, aerobics rooms, and Boxing facility. If I had to guess it’s somewhere in the 2000-2500 sq ft and I was getting full strength or near full strength throughout.Answered by Zirkletech
Q: QuestionDoes this router support mesh networking?(1 answer)
A: AnswerYes, it does.Answered by Valens
- A: AnswerYep. I’ve purchases a wifi 6 pci card but I haven’t installed it yet so everything on my network is wifi 5 or before.

- A: AnswerThis router seems to allow access point mode through ethernet. If you run an ethernet cable from your wifi router to this device, you can then run additional ethernet cables from this device to your pc and PS4. It will likely improve your speeds since it doesn't have to depend on wifi anymore.

Excellent Range that tops even the Nighthawk
My 2014 R7000 Netgear Nighthawk was starting to fail (intermittently would lose connection with WiFi and Lan, at random for about 3 months), so it was time to replace it. I was originally looking at another Nighthawk, but then my friend started suggesting a mesh network for superior coverage. However a big caveat to those in both the Orbi, Ubiquity, etc is the lack of multiple Lan ports on the back of the moderately priced systems. Additionally, I was not having issues with coverage with my existing setup. So I decided to go with the Asus based off a recommendation from one of the Erie Store Supervisors/Managers. After about a week of owning it the RT-AX58U, I have no complaints. The range is superior to the Nighthawk (in both 5ghz and 2.4ghz) (2,000sq ft+) and unlike the Nighthawk, it is silent in it's operation. (There are numerous complaints about a high pitched noise coming from the Nighthawks when there is network traffic). The Setup on the Asus was straight forward and I was back up and running in under 15 min. The admin tool includes many extra features that the nighthawk did not have either, so there's a huge plus for those that like additional security features. Additionally this router is WiFi 6 (AX) but also has the ability to be disabled until your devices support it). I was always a Netgear supporter but it's nice to see strong offerings from other brands. Additionally for all the features you get in this router you would normally be paying double (close to $250-300+). I highly recommend this router as a mid-high range option for enthusiasts and those that just want peace of mind with reliability. Overall all excellent router. - Long Range (Both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz) - WiFi 6 (Future Proof) - Compact size (compared to the enormous Nighthawk) - Silent operation - Easy to setup - Expansive Admin Tool. - Android App is dated looking, but simple and provides all the same options as the desktop web app. - Reasonably priced, even not on sale.

Excellent
My experience with this router has changed the way I run my home network. Dual-band connectivity is fast and reliable, especially with WiFi 6. Great upload and download speed. It was easy to set up. This is the perfect balance between speed, security and user-friendliness, making it the best choice for a reliable and future-ready networking solution. I don't use cables anymore for playing.

Worth it
Love this router! My internet provider upgraded their equipment and when I tell you their router SUCKED….. It hand no range and could not even give me the mbps that I was paying for! With this router I was getting more than what I was paying for! The app is also so easy to use and looks clean. Very impressed.
