Great Laptop from Asus / This is the one to Buy !Posted .
Asus is the World’s Largest Manufacturer of computer and notebook motherboards. Asus motherboards are in most Dell, HP, Compaq, Gateway, and Acer systems today. Consumers don’t recognize the Asus name, but it means performance, quality, and value. This Laptop is a well laid out system, offering everything that 99.9% of all user’s will ever want or need. At a fantastic price of 699.99 from Best Buy. Sure you can spend more, but why, in this economy consumers must be wise and thrifty. This Asus X83Vb-X1 will do it all. I compared the Asus system specifications to competitive notebook systems and found to match this systems, would cost hundreds of dollars more. Bottom line is if you are currently shopping and looking to purchase a new Laptop, stop looking this is the one to buy without question. This Asus X83Vb-X1 is your choice, it’s a Great Laptop with a Great Price.I would recommend this to a friend

SPECS review, Overall great laptopPosted .
A very good computer overall, design may take a second to get used to, but I felt right at home really fast.-------------------------------------------- Word to the wise, look out for what it lists for the specs: On the overview page the Hard Drive is listed as 7200, but it is really only 5400 as seen on the Specs page (But it still has great load times.) Also it says to have only 10/100 ethernet, but it really has gigabit ethernet (10/100/1000). Video says to have 512 mb of ram, but I believe the ram listed only counts the dedicated ram, because Direct X Diagnostics (start > run > dxdiag > display) shows over 2 GB of ram for the video card.--------------------------------- With the CD key given watch out, it may be hard to do a clean install from another vista DVD with. When I get a new computer the first thing I do is reformat so it runs faster, cleaner and doesn't have all the trial software that is hard to remove and so on. This time gave me some issues though, I was using a generic Vista 64bit DVD (not SP1, which could have been the problem) but the code underneath would not be recognized, so I installed the Home Premium version with the option to insert the key after installation, no dice. I ended up having to install Vista 64 Business which is where I originally had the DVD from. The key should work fine with the restore DVDs, but that just reinstalls everything I didn't want so it's pointless for me. (But the computer still runs faster with a clean operating system)-------------------------- Few random thoughts: Glossy keys and outside make it look sexy, but can leave fingerprints. Screen is a nice size, I have 19' for desktop and I thought 14' would be too small but it's actually good, even for playing games. It can run games really well for its size and price, BF 2 about 70fps average, Counter Strike: Source 60 fps average for full settings (4xAA even), can run games like Unreal 3 on medium to low settings perfectly. Arrow keys seem crammed in the corner, so for games or takes requiring them, you may want to consider re-mapping those applications. When the lid comes down it doesn't have any locks, just pressure which is nice because there is nothing sticking out at you from the lid, but somewhat concerns me that it could easily lose pressure or something.--------------------------------------------------- I am currently an Information Sciences and Technology Student, and this laptop is exactly what I needed for the price range, there is better, but this is great for a college student that like to play games. This laptop is great for everything from LAN parties, photo editing and website design to causal everyday use of word processing to internet surfing.I would recommend this to a friend

Great Value, Strong PerformancePosted .
I'm a Graphic Designer and Photographer, and like to play FPSs occasionally. This Laptop easily had the best specs for the price ($650) when I bought it, and the addition of the nvidia 9300 sealed the deal. Most laptops in this price range come with the core 2 duo 5800 and 3-4gb of DDR 2 RAM, so that's pretty standard. But the dedicated graphics card, firewire port in addition to the 5 USB 2.0 ports, and solid display set the asus above HP, Dell, and Acer. my only complaints are that A) the left and right click are stiff, although they are starting to loosen up after 2 weeks, B) the buttons at the top of the computer are for functions you don't normally use often (they should be dedicated media buttons instead), and C) the glossy finish looks nice, but attracts fingerprints and reflects too much light. Windows Vista is obviously a resource hog and is one giant piece of bloat ware. I installed Windows XP and OSX 10.5.5 in a Dual-Boot config, and it runs much much much better. I didn't have any driver related problems surprisingly, so I would suggest seriously streamlining Vista, or switching back to XP or other preferred operating system. on another note, the laptop is lighter than I expected (lighter than my previous Dell 14.1"), and runs relatively coolly (hasn't burned through the shorts on my lap yet). The battery is also better than I expected. I've been consistently getting 2 hours while running photoshop and other adobe products, 2.5-3 hours running office tasks or internet browsing, and a solid 1.5 hours playing unreal tournament 2004. It may be too early to tell, but the battery hasn't had the leakage problem that dells are infamous for (good luck getting a Dell battery to hold a charger for longer than 30 minutes after just a couple of months). Overall, the computer is solidly built, performs well, and is the best value that can currently be found at $650. Its mild shortcomings are very minor preference issues.I would recommend this to a friend

Most Inexpensive Gaming Laptop EverPosted .
I have had this laptop for about 2 months now and I just love it. I wanted a gaming laptop that wasn't that expensive and this fits the bill perfectly. I mainly play WoW so I didn't need bleeding edge hardware, just something solid. No other laptop in this price range even comes close. This is about the only laptop under $1000 that has a dedicated graphics card instead of the integrated video chip that most in the same class have. Add that to the 4 GB of memory it has and this thing performs like a champ. I play WoW at max resolution (for this computer) with all the settings at at least medium and it puts out steady framerates. The display is also gorgeous. I was worried that the screen would be too small but because it is widescreen it looks bigger than my old 15" laptop. In general I hate the trend of laptops using the ultra glossy screen as it creates a lot of glare, but this screen's anti-glare coating appears to work well as I don't notice reflections in it very much. There are just a few niggling complaints, which don't detract from the overall rating of the computer. One is that the keyboard is really shiny and it reflects a lot of light which makes it difficult to see what each key is. It also shows fingerprints very easily. They should have used the same anti-glare coating here as they did on the screen! The other complaint is that the mouse buttons are pretty stiff and it take more force than I would like in order to depress them. Overall, you just can't go wrong with this computer.I would recommend this to a friend

Asus Rocks!Posted .
I bought this notebook the weekend before college finals. After researching Notebooks for the past three months I came to the decision that that ASUS was the best choice for the price. I usually build computers for myself so I know the ASUS brand very well and have much respect for their quality and longativity in PC hardware. I brought the notebook home and checked it out. I really was amazed at the workmanship of the notebook and how stable it performed on 3D rendering and video editing. The only complaint I had was that for some reason my Notebook's DVD-R/W couldn't read recorded discs. Since I'm in college, I have a buch of CD-Rs,DVD-Rs, and not to mention I have DVD-RAMs for secure backups. I called ASUS after this problem revealed itself to me and they were right on it. Their customer service is the best. My notebook was sent to them free of charge and is expected to be fixed in a few days. For anyone who complains about the touch pad being hard to click, go into your touch pad settings and make it more sensitive. I did that and the pad worked perfectly for me. Overall this notebook is really good for the price and offers so much versatility for the user. I'm a student now, but in the future I'm getting into business so this is a perfect companion for me, and knowing that ASUS will help with any problems that may happen makes this notebook a must buy.I would recommend this to a friend

No word processor or excel etcPosted .
It looks good, feels good, runs good, it is good...whoops, you want how much MORE money for Office word processor and spreadsheet. AND THERE IS NO WORKS installed or included..no word processor included or spreadsheet. This was only disappointment but it can be a big one. You need to know it has NO word processor or excel or Microsoft works, it has trial verson of Office only, and then bring your bucks. I got to say for the price it is only good for games unless you can get discount word processor elsewhere like I can. Because I can get this additional software through a license, this computer is excellent for power point and research and networking but BEWARE. the world has changed. If you have no way to get word processor and spreadsheet and power point cheap, stay away. If you can get a cheap word processor and spreadsheet then I recommend this computer. If you only want game use, this baby can sing and dance...real great. Wow. I feel lucky to get cheap word processor so I can have this at reasonable price. I love this computer but still can not recommend it without the big beware. I am older person and never saw computer sold without a word processor before. I do NOT like how Best Buy advertises the software..much more, leaving off no word processor, found that a little deceptive. But if you can get the extra stuff at reasonable price, this baby makes presentations, graphic, video, music, power points, projectiion of high caliber, they make you look good. No, I would not recommend this to a friend

OMG!!! AWESOME!!Posted .
I've had it for a couple of hours and already I'm forgotten Apple altogether! Installed World of Warcraft... 60FPS! IN STORMWIND!!!!! Very responsive and the video card is fantastic (can't wait to get to where all my PC games are!)! All in all a great price for a great system. Specs and performance are BETTER than MacBook (meaning the new model). Vista runs fantastic. Like I said don't think I will be going back to Apple anytme soon. My wife is yelling about her Inspiron 9100 (which she was happy with until I started up WOW and told her what the framerate is! lol) having not enough hard drive and being slow. I will be buying another one for her next month.I would recommend this to a friend
