A Surprisingly COMPETENT Windows 8.1 "2-in-1" !
||Posted .I held off on writing this review for nearly 60 days after my purchase so that I would have a properly informed impression about this 2-in-1 notebook computer. It took me about 10 to 12 hours to get it set up to parallel the functionality of my Toshiba Satellite laptop. ... I'm still only on my 6th discharge cycle now, about 45 hours of operation so far. - Here's some advice and helpful hints from my experience(s), thus far: 1.) DO NOT SKIP THE #1 INSTRUCTION IN THE "Quick Start Guide" ... Charge this computer (KEYBOARD DOCK ATTACHED ... It has a battery too) for at least 8 hours (but no more than 12 hours) ... BEFORE INITIAL USE(!!!). ... Plan on AT LEAST 8 to 10 FULL charge/discharge cycles (of the "whole" computer) before starting to "short" charge it for expediency. When these batteries have been "broken in" properly, a full charge should take between 4 and 5 hours. A full discharge cycle should yield between 8 and 9 hours of operation, depending on external device operation and video processing demand and output intensity - Keep your display brightness as low as you can stand it to help extend battery charge duration. I read nearly all of the online reviews about this 2-in-1 notebook that I could find. I am now nearly completely convinced that ALL the bad reviews related to battery life (and power switch) problems can be chalked up to "OPERATOR ERROR". ... Turning on this computer requires at least three seconds of positive, steady contact with the power switch, but you don't have to MASH it. 2.) KEEP THIS COMPUTER UPDATED, ... AND regularly clean up your updates using the "Disk Cleanup" operation. Just like Windows 7 and 8 there are 2 or 3 updates every couple of days and blocks of 15 to 25 updates every couple of weeks (or less). Using the Disk Cleanup function's sub-operation "Clean Up System Files" (Windows Update Cleanup) WILL save you precious SSDD space (20.8 GB total available) during AND after you set up the computer with Office 365 and ALL your other favorite programs and applications. TO THAT END ... DON'T CRAM YOUR COMPUTER WITH "MEDIA" FILES! - Micro SDHC (Class 10) cards are REALLY cheap! I have two 32 GB cards so far: One for music and video files (about 1,300 of them with 5 GB still available), and one for pictures and related documents (OVER 31,100 of them). 3.) ACCESSORIZE APROPRIATELY ACCORDING TO YOUR DESIRED MODES OF USE. ... A.) Get yourself a good, sturdy "messenger" bag for 10.1 to 11" tablets, one with several separate pockets (you'll need them for accessories, believe me). B.) I'm "old school": ALL my laptop computers have wireless mice, and my new ASUS 2-in-1 is no different. I got a good, reasonably priced Bluetooth 3.0 mouse. It "pairs" with this 2-in-1 tablet nearly instantaneously after its initial setup was completed. C.) Get the best capacitive stylus you can find! - I think that a "slim" stylus will provide more accuracy in the long run: After all, the screen resolution on this tablet is 1366x768 pixels in a 10.1" diagonal frame. A clear, screen protector sheet is also a really good idea, especially if you plan on using your 2-in-1 mostly in "tablet" mode. D.) If you have other software that you use regularly that can be loaded from CD-ROM (camera, printer SW, etc.) a good external CD+RW (DVD-ROM, DVD+RW) drive will be REALLY handy to have. Although you may also be able to download these software packages from the internet, or find that "workable" drivers are already provided by Microsoft, it WILL still be nice to be able to play CDs and DVDs as you travel through your days. - Hope this helps ALL you prospective purchasers! - Spock

Decent Travel Tablet/Notebook
||Posted .This Tablet/Notebook is really pretty decent and meets my needs for an easy and quick check of emails and internet browsing. The 2 in 1 feature is a real bonus and in both configurations; they work well. I pulled back on the rating a little, because of a couple of issues; that were resolved; nevertheless, they were issues. I had trouble downloading apps from the store. But a quick check on line found others with the same problem and a resolution. Secondly, I had trouble with the screen not rotating from landscape to portrait. More research on line and I found the solution. Overall, I would recommend this for a person that is looking for a 2 in 1 machine. It's price point makes it difficult to beat.

Functional Windows machine for limited use
||Posted .Let's be clear, it's not a high powered laptop with wireless AC connectivity and a lightning-fast processor. But it was a great price, and for times when you want a Windows based tablet, this one fits the bill. I find the apps open slower than on an Android or Apple tablet, but this is more than a tablet after all, it's a mini-computer running full Windows 8.1 and with the attached (albeit small) keyboard, you really have a lightweight, functional PC for the kitchen, living room, couch or bed. It won't replace a full-fledged PC, but I didn't expect it to. It's great for those times when pesky Flash won't open on your iPad, or when you need to edit a Word or Excel document, and a knock-off Office suite just won't do. I'm pleased with this device's touch screen response, the feel of the keyboard, and the portability. Cons might be that the battery won't last as long as an iPad on standby - but I'm fine with that. As long as you don't expect this to run like it's got an i7 processor with 32 GB of RAM - you shouldn't be too disappointed.

Great tablet
||Posted .Sturdy. Don't worry about the fingerprint-prone cover. After all, how often do you look at the cover of a tablet when you are using it?. . . Exactly! The power button needs to be pushed for at least 3 seconds to power the unit on. Any shorter than that and it simply gives you a battery meter reading. There were some complaints about the mouse pointer conking out. However, just eject the tablet portion from the keyboard then re-insert to the keyboard and the problem is solved. Overall a great little tablet/netbook. Oh...it also has a FULL version of Microsoft Office Suite.

Fun, functional tablet, bonus keyboard!
||Posted .I purchased the Asus - Transformer Pad T100TAF as an "open-box" item and got it for a great price, and it was Geek Squad certified! I actually ordered 2 as my sister wanted one also. I really like the size, I have a full size laptop, and had a Kindle Fire, I like the "in-between" size of the asus. I find it to be very responsive, I use it WITH the keyboard most of the time, but like the option of having just tablet capabilities. It does everything my laptop can do except of course no disc drawer, but I don't need that on this device since I have it on the laptop. It remotely connected to my printer with no problem, and synced with my google accounts, cloud, one note etc. The one thing I have found to complain about is the brightness fades out randomly, for a few seconds then comes back to the original brightness. My sister said hers does the same thing, so less than thrilled with that but it's a minor issue. I think the battery life is pretty good, but I haven't really tested it. I would recommend this combo tablet-keyboard!

Q: QuestionConflicting Info on Adobe Flash CompatibilityThe Specifications state: "Adobe Flash Compatible: No". However, people are posting that this Tablet *is* compatible. What is the correct answer? If it is *not* compatible, does this mean no video viewing capability at all for streaming sites like YouTube?
Asked by Shepard.
- A:Answer Straight to answering your question, the tablet can play videos from YouTube and can even do video services such as Comcast On-Demand and Vudu. That being said, technically the device is not compatible with Adobe Flash-Player. Internet browsers offer little applications known as plug-ins, that are capable of running the video's code right inside of the window that you are using to get to the page. This is an advantage of using a device that has a real operating system versus a "baby" version. Please keep in mind that internet browsers for many tablets, that use an Operating System that has been "reduced" from its true version, may not be able to do this or they have special programming codes that allow the to imitate this feature, but that special programming code may not be kept upto date as well as full featured browsers that you have on your computer. Bigger companies such as Samsung do a good job managing specialty codes inside of their products, but if anything happens to the company of the brand of the device you buy, you might be out of luck for some of the reasons you bought the tablet. Final thought: The hardware was not designed to run applications and background services for Adobe's Flash-Player, as there was no need in the extra hardware and overhead needed to run a program designed for an entirely different type of device. This is how tablets can be as efficient as their bigger counter-parts for many commonly used applications and services. The full Adobe Flash-Player software package, that is not compatible, is also used for software that runs within the computer (not being fed in from the internet ). I hope that I was able to put a little bit of light on a subject that is a little bit of a ploy in advertising.

Q: QuestionHow long is the charge time?Once it's fully charged, how long does that charge last? Does it have wireless capabilities?
Asked by Muffie.
- A:Answer 2.) WiFi = Good - NOT necessarily GREAT, but certainly always very adequate in most EVERY setting with WiFi available. May be able to be set up to function as a competent WiFi "HotSpot" with available apps. 1.) DO NOT SKIP THE #1 INSTRUCTION IN THE "Quick Start Guide" ... Charge this computer (KEYBOARD DOCK ATTACHED ... It has a battery too) for at least 8 hours (but no more than 12 hours) ... BEFORE INITIAL USE(!!!). ... - Plan on AT LEAST 8 to 10 FULL charge/discharge cycles (of the "whole" computer) before starting to "short" charge it for expediency. When I said "Plan on at least 8 to 10 FULL charge/discharge cycles" I might have explained more thoroughly by saying: Charge the device fully, until the power light changes from orange to bright blue (again, generally between 4 and 5 hours) and then unplug and detach the power adapter charger. The next time you turn on this ASUS 2-in-1 notebook computer and get "logged in" go immediately to check the battery meter reading: It should read 99 or maybe even 100% still, if you're fairly quick to get to the meter check. From this moment on you have another 94 to 95% of the batteries operating time left (between 8 and 9 hours from my current experience). The "computer" WILL shut itself down by the time it gets to 5% of battery capacity left (unless you have changed the "power management" ("profile") software settings). Repeat this FULL 5 (+/-) hours charging and 9 (+/-) hours discharging (100 to 5%) without the power adapter attached, AT LEAST 5 to 8 times in a row (10 to 15 times optimally). This WILL help to prevent the Lithium Ion (Li-ion) batteries from developing a "memory" that will NOT allow them to be fully charged in the future. Just like the old Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cad) batteries, these Li-ion re-chargeable batteries can become partially (or fully) chemically inert and will no longer hold a full (or any) charge. FULLY "CYCLING" (charging/discharging) a brand new re-chargeable battery (in any device so equipped) helps to ensure that the chemical compounds in the battery will not become "inert" (partially or fully) in the future! Most Li-ion re-chageable battery packs currently made for computers should be able to provide between 350 to 500 FULL charge/discharge cycles before they are degraded to no longer holding a "full" charge because they do become chemically inert over time, no matter how careful you are about your charging habits. MOST IMPORTANTLY ... How you charge and discharge your new Li-ion battery (especially when it cannot be changed without sending the whole device back for "factory" service) for its first through its tenth "cycles" determine how long it will last and how much charge it will hold for its remaining lifetime of 340 to 490 remaining charges. - I'm STILL fully "cycling" my cell phone's batteries nearly two years after its purchase ... I can leave my phone on for NO LESS THAN 7 to 8 DAYS before it finally turns itself off because the battery is fully run down! - I hope this adds further clarification to my review of 5-14-15 for ALL the rest of y'all! - Spock

Q: QuestionCan you use an external dvd drive to watch movies? If so is there a specific type extrnal drive to use?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Yes! Pretty much any USB 2.0 external DVD-ROM/DVD+RW drive will work with this ASUS 2-in-1 notebook, whether or not it is separately powered or not. (NOTE: I have no idea about attaching an external Blu-ray player, but I believe it can be done as well.) HOWEVER, you are probably going to have to pay for a decent software package that will display/play the DVD content. I've been looking for a "free" "app" at the Microsoft store for several weeks and haven't found one worth downloading yet. ... Read "app" reviews carefully before trying to download any "app": Risks of mal/spy-ware being attached to your selected "app" ABOUND!

Q: Questionhow do you obtain an owners manual with operating instructions
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer It's only on the computer itself. The easiest way is to click on the desktop. In the bottom left of the screen (where the start menu usually is on MS systems) there is an icon that looks like a large pad of paper. Click on that; it's the owner's manual.
