fast solid
|Posted .So far, I'm pleased with the Asus AC86P. We have several users, and they all reported faster speeds. No drops so far. (It also looks cool, btw... and it's nice that it has a switch to turn off those blue indicator lights on the front) I researched this product for several months... google "Best Wireless Routers for 2016" and you'll get a bunch of review sites... they all pick different ones for "the best" BUT they ALL pick the AC86 as Excellent and in their top tier. The AC86 has an ongoing track record of success and by this time all the bugs have been supposedly worked out. P.S. I talked with somebody who got one for his restaurant, and he said up to 40 (yes forty) people at a time go on it wirelessly... so it'll probably handle your household. BTW the 86-P at BestBuy is the V2---latest version with upgraded processor over the ones at Amazon the R and U versions... so I bought mine at a physical BestBuy store to get the best of the best proven wireless router.

ASUS = Awesome!
|Posted .I have had 5 different wireless routers over the last 10 years and they all have had the same issues, the coverage is insufficient. I just bought an ASUS RT-AC68P on a recommendation from a friend. It is worth every penny I spent on it. I now have full coverage across the whole house without being dropped. I also now have consistent connectivity throughout the house with out pauses, freezes or drops! If you want a great device buy this one!

Very Customizable & Powerful Signal
|Posted .This is a great router! Going from an apple AirPort Extreme, it was a nice change of pace to be able to customize all the settings that Apple doesn't allow their consumers access to. I live in a condominium so "wifi wars" occur almost nightly. I've see a clear improvement in our streaming devices; we used to have to turn off some of our tablets or phones when we were streaming movies through our Sony TV or Apple TV. No longer though! I am very pleased with this product and would recommend no matter the platform you prefer (we have both Apple and PC devices throughout). Only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is I think some folks may find this router a little "tech-heavy" and I could see someone getting frustrated with set up, especially if they are coming from the plug-n-play world of Apple.

BLAZING FAST!
|Posted .I set this thing up on my xfinity wireless modem. I pay for 120 mps and was getting around 120mps wired, but my wireless was roughly 11mps! I purchased this router after reading reviews and i'm getting around 115+ throughout my apartment. I would recommend to anyone.

Worth Every Penny
Posted .I have Cable One and have had constant disconnects and serious connection issues over WiFi for a while now. I had an older Netgear Wireless N but always received page faults when it was connected. Cable One provided me with a Arris TG852 (router, wireless, telephony) and the wifi connection was horrible to say the least. Basically I read around online and picked this one up due to its awesome reviews. I am able to get 50 Mbps on most devices and a whopping 10 Mbps on a PS3. In my opinion those are great numbers. The user interface is great for newbies, or people like me that are pretty tech savvy. Just remember to follow the steps I list in here prior to hooking this modem up. It removes all the page faults that are caused by your cable modem firewall and your new Asus Router. 1. Access the modem interface by typing Http://192.168.0.1 into the browser, hit return and the modem interface with the user name and password entry input will appear on the screen. 2. The default user name is “Admin” and the default password is “password” in lower case. Enter “password” and the basic set up page appears. 3. Go to LAN setup and under Nat section select Bridged. 4. Go to the Firewall tab and unselect “enabled” Security will be provided by your own wireless router. 5. Under the wireless tab if the wireless is turned on uncheck enable wireless. 6. Install your own wireless router in accordance with the instructions that came with it. Follow those steps and you will be very happy with the results. The image I posted was from Speedtest.net and compared to 1 -2 Mbps if it connected at all.

Two Routers - Two Reviews
Posted .I spent a lot of time reviewing routers before choosing one, online at Bestbuy.com and other sites. I also talked to a BestBuy Associate in the store, who confirmed my own research about the Asus - Wireless AC1900 Dual-Band Gigabit Wireless Router. I took my router home, read the instructions, did the set-up procedure, as well as the firmware update. Then after a few minutes, the router just stopped. I couldn't even access the router via its IP address and got a weird error message about the settings being updated. I reset the router, and it worked again. An hour later, the same thing happened again. There is a little card in the box saying to call Asus if there are any problems with setting up the router, so I called them. After being on hold for 20 minutes, they hung up on me. So, I just reset the router. This time it ran for a day and a half before locking up on me. I took it back to my local BestBuy store, and they were happy to give me a replacement. Setting up the new router went very smoothly, since I already had practice. Even the firmware update went smoothly.. And this router hasn't had any problems at all. All of our wireless devices have noticeably faster Internet connections. THIS router works exactly like I expected the first one to. If I had gotten this router the first time, this would have been a 5 star review. Asus Customer support gets 1 star, while the folks at my local BestBuy get 5 stars.

Excellent Product
Posted .Prior to buying this I had your standard cheap Netgear Router plus a Range Extender and it still wasn't enough. Now that I have this not only is my range inside and outside my house more than double, But my internet is faster as this more compatible with my Comcast High Speed internet. It's definitely worth the money IMO.

Fast Fully Featured Great Product!!!!!!
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendBought this in Rochester NY area. First one lasted about 27 hours and then stopped working. Was a bit baffled due to the great reviews of this and other Asus routers. Took it back to the store and exchanged for another one. Have had no issues since. Up and running for over 2 months now. Very fast throughput. Have had multiple devices streaming internet feeds at the same time, some devices running more than one. Since my IP connection is about 20MB/s this will bog down long before the router throughput would be reached (Router has much higher throughput than the internet connection). It has a great user / web interface that is easy to go through and set up. It can be changed out for alternative O/S's if desired (States in the instructions). I have not done this on this router, but have on an older wrt54g. The alternates have alot more options, but since the installed O/S suits my needs, why screw with it! I have not set up the cloud drive as I use a NAS system, but it is a nice feature to have (I used on an older linksys before the NAS). Range seems to be good, though I do live in a smaller ranch style home. My tablet does connect OK while pulling into the driveway when getting home from work. When summer gets here, I will play more with that feature as I like to stream radio outdoors (Way to cold here now!). Just a note for those who are comparing models... This router is not the same found online at other retailers, it is specific to BB. Note the "P" on the end of the model number. Other retailers and online stores have a "U" or "W" at the end of the model number. The CPU is slightly different and rated slightly faster (GHz). If you are looking for a fast router with lots of features, this one is a great pick! If you are not into the need for speed and are just doing basic web surfing and email, not streaming music and videos or other things that require alot of bandwidth (Several users etc), then save your money for something that better fits your needs. Do remember you get what you pay for, buy cheap, get cheap. I have been running on older routers for years and upgraded to this due to aging and slowly dying equipment. This is like going from a little compact car to Cadillac Escalade as far as features and quality goes, but to me, worth the change as my older equipment just wasn't handling the throughput without having to be rebooted daily, sometimes several times a day. If you buy it, enjoy it! A great product in my opinion.
Q: QuestionThis router specified that it has a max of 7 connected devices. Does it really have this limitation? This router specified that it has a max of 7 connected devices. Does it really have this limitation?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Wired, that's about right: 4 Ethernet connections (LAN), 1 Internet connection (WAN), and 2 USB ports for hard drives or printers. Wirelessly, it should support whatever you have. We had 10+ wireless devices connected without a problem.

Q: Questionwhat is the differece between the asus RT-AC68 U & ausu RT-AC68 W and the asus RT-AC68P ?
Asked by littlehairs.
- A:Answer "U" or "R" is the black online version that Amazon, etc. sells. "W" is the white colored version of "U". They have a dual core 800Mhz chipset. "P" is v2 of "U/R/W" -- has faster/better chipset, dual core 1Ghz, and fixes problems with USB 3 storage.

Q: QuestionWhat is the best router for home use
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Without question, the ASUS RT-AC68P. This thing rocks and won't be obsolete next year. Works with ALL my devices on 2.4GHz and all my devices that support 5GHz (both Wireless N and Wireless AC). It also gives you wireless storage (attach USB 3.0 HDD to USB 3.0 port) and wireless printing (USB2.0). It's easy to use (the management UI is easy to navigate) and it has a TON of nice tweakable features. If you don't want to mess with anything you still get excellent performance and it has a nice First-Run Setup wizard to make things easy. GREAT product!

Q: QuestionDoes this router run on 2.4 GHZ and 5 GHZ at the same time.
Asked by 10mike.
- A:Answer Yes, it does. Different devices will detect one or both bands depending on the device's specs. For instance, my computer can use either. But, my son's HP Stream only sees the 2.4.

Q: Questionwhats the best router that i can get to hold up to 3phones, 3 gaming systems and 2 computers one a laptop 4 tabletsi have a dlink router it sucks i also have a modem from twc thats just as bad we replaced their modem finally after telling them we were having problems out to wazoo with the internet connection dropping they shipped us a new one and we sent the old one back. The dlink router we have is small and theirs 5 of us in the house totaling 13 devices so when playing video games or streaming watching netflix it just drops you on all 3 of our gaming systems PS3. WII, and XBox 360. Also have the same problems on the tablets 1 gigaset tablet, 1 kindle, and 2 kindle fires. The phones we have 2 android phones and 1 I phone 6. if anyone can please help me I have one chance to get this right so we don"t end up with another product like dlink.
Asked by stargazer.
- A:Answer Some considerations to improve your situation. First, please think in terms of bandwidth demands per device. That is, video and gaming takes a lot of bandwidth (BW), voice (like Vonage, Skype, vchat) a bit less, browsing and email demands much less and messaging demands are irrelevant. Then ask if these demands are going on simultaneously. If so, which demands and from what sources are these demands occurring? The best thing to do for the high BW and low latency demands is to use hardwired connections to these locations; best examples being the boxes, play station, steaming DVDs, TVs, roku's, AppleTV, PCs used for streAming, etc).. Reason is you get 10x more performance and no noticeable contention over the hardwired connections in comparison to the wireless capabilities of your 1 wireless router. It also leaves only those wireless-only devices (phones and tablets) to use the wireless spectrum of your router. Next, realize your router has 2 bands. 2.4ghz and the 5ghz bands. Divide up which devices will use which bands so they share the BW capacity of BOTH BANDS in a reasonable manner. If you need more wireless capacity, then get two wireless routers and divide the demand loads across the 4 available wireless bands of both routers - hey, you might actually get to use your DLink and an ASUS to support your 16 devices. The name of the game here is to manage the available wireless capacity. If you don't you'll not arrive at a happy place. It's the 10 pounds into a 5 pound bag problem you have, not a product technology problem. Additional configuration options can me asserted to provide BW allocation per device in the QOS options of your router but in the end, you'll need the wireless BW capacity to be available for your devices. So spectrum budget manage is the key. Hope you follow the engineering aspects of why and what needs to be done. RegArds..m
