I upgraded from a Velocity hotspot to the Netgear Nighthawk. I purchased it outright and was not sorry one bit. Max download speed with Velocity was 45 mbps. With this hotspot, in the same location, same time of day...max download speed was 128mbps. This was on a congested tower. I’ve also taken this to where the Velocity has little to no service and I’ve noticed much higher service with no dead spots. Without a doubt, everyone should have one of these. It has all of AT&T’s bands and is ahead of it’s time.

I purchased my first Nighthawk M1 when they came out in October of 2017, with the rumors that At&t would no longer allow you to add this to your unlimited plan I decided I would grab another. I've found that most of the negative reviews have been from people that must not have figured out how to use all the features. If you don't download the app and go through all the settings you're missing out. The default setting for WiFi is short range that times out after 15 minutes of no activity. These can be changed to long range and to never time out. There are two things that Netgear could improve however. 1) Include a charger that is capable of powering the unit with the battery out. As it is you need to purchase a Quick Charge 2.0 compatible charger to remove the battery and leave it plugged in, I can't believe this is not included. 2) Currently the software does not allow you to prevent the Ethernet jack from going to sleep. I hope this is something that is changed in a software update. Despite these couple of things I think this is a fantastic hotspot that should be anyone's first choice if they are in the market for one.

This Hotspot Router is actually what it advertised as. The device is built well, not flimsy. What I really like about it is the use of the Ethernet port, now I can connect it to a switch and make a truly portable network.
