Controls Are Terrible, Graphics look Spot On

Ok I used to play my Older Sisters 2600 when I was growing Up. I eventually got a 7800 Atari. And Of Course went on to a NES, SNES and so on and so on. But I still Missed playing the Old School Atari Games. So I figured for $70 I would try it. Well the Games look great in HD,720p. But the Controllers that came with are terrible. I tried playing Break Out and Super Breakout and the Paddle Flashes back and forth so fast I remember being able to lightly touch the old school controllers to finer movement onscreen. And I suppose I could go out and buy either Used or New Atari Controllers. I could just buy the cheaper version that comes with wired controllers but it lacks the HDMI output. I think I will just get Atari Flashback Game discs that are available for PS4 and Xbox One instead. Maybe find a Good Used 2600 or 7800 online.

As someone who is an avid Atari 2600 fan and player, I can't help but notice the many differences between game play on the Flashback 8 Gold and the original console, especially with sound and lagging action. The Flashback 8 Gold makes for a nice screen saver with crisp HDMI connectivity, but as far as actually playing the games, meh. Someone who didn't grow up playing these games will probably just think they were never any good. The reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because of the box itself. I'm a collector and to me the real value of the FB 8 is the visual appeal, pretty sharp! It looks good on the shelf. If you can afford a toy that's better seen than played, go for it. Otherwise? Hit the tag sales and find yourself an original console. You won't be disappointed, and you'll probably save a lot of money!

I was skeptical when I first spotted this at my local Best Buy. Picked it up and carried it around and then decided to be a kid again. Unboxing was easy and setup took less than a minute. I then lost track of time as I played title after title. Each one taking me back to the 5th grade. The ability to play a retro console on an HDMI TV made this magic possible. Thanks for that!! I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a nostalgic trip down memory lane...you won’t be disappointed!!!

It’s the best iteration so far. Some quirks though

So, we’ve seen the Flashback before, but now we have it in A) classic styling, B) with HDMI, and C) true wireless controllers. All these things make it great - and overall, 4 stars out of five. My only issues... First - WHY is the HDMI port on the side?? This was just horrible planning in my mind - and there’s no excuse. Others have complained about this, and while it’s not a dealbreaker, it is annoying. For something going for retro style, looks matter. So why have a cable sticking out of the side??? Second - for the same price, the Genesis Flashback has a cartridge slot. There’s really no reason they couldn’t have put one here. Boo.

My wife and I bought this for my father-in-law for Christmas and he absolutely loves it! 120 games, wireless controllers and an HDMI connection? This is a very cool console. Plus, it's small enough to really throw in a bag and take with you on a trip. Came with everything you need to get started (HDMI cable included).

I was terribly disappointed. Unable to exit many of the games without restarting the system. Some of the games I could not figure out how to get into them. I got is to play with my visiting siblings over the holiday and we were all disappointed. Used for about two hours - purely for the sake of giving it a full try - but has not been used since. It’s just a pain.

This item was bought as a new purchase on Best Buy.com, but that is not how it was received. The box was open, the front of the system was marked up, the poster and instructions were missing and there were batteries in one of the controllers. This is not cool Best Buy. I spend a lot of money in your stores and expect my products to be in new unused condition.

I purchased the Atari 8 (not gold) from a competitor befor this purchase and found it was incompatible with modern flatscreens. I found that Best Buy had the Gold edition which was supposed to have an HDMI connection. I brought it home and played til my heart was content. I love it.
