    Synopsis

    Atlas Shrugged Part I
This adaptation of Ayn Rand's 1957 objectivist novel Atlas Shrugged tells the first installment in the story of a dystopian future in which a collectivist society has forced the great thinkers of the world to go on strike, leaving the functioning world without scientists, engineers, philosophers, or artists. Set against this stark backdrop, a railroad heiress named Dagny Taggart tries to bring her failing company back from the brink with the development of a new alloy to repair breaks in the lines, and hopefully calm the business' vital corporate partnership with an oil company. But with the endless bureaucracy of an evil and corrupt government fighting her at every turn, and her own inept brother battling her for control, Dagny soon finds that in order to set things right in her world, things must be set right in the world at large. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Atlas Shrugged Part 1 is a great film

Atlas Shrugged Part 1 is a must-see flick. Since I'm a big fan of Ayn Rand's great novel Atlas Shrugged, I expected a less-than-stellar movie version of the book. After all, it's nearly impossible for such a film on such a small budget to mimic such a brilliant novel. Nonetheless, I was very pleased with the first installment of Atlas Shrugged. With the length and scope of the story, it requires either an incredibly long movie or a division into different parts, which they decided to do here. However, I still would have preferred a bit more details and specifics which were left out of Part 1, and could have been added as the film is not very lengthy as is. It is still very well done and they spent some good money on CGI effects for the John Galt Line; the cinematography worked well for this film, within its budget. That being said, a larger budget could have enhanced the film, which is unfortunate. Taylor Schilling is a very good actress as Dagny Taggart - she projects the high-end efficiency and passion of the character, and she is appropriately sexy as well. Taylor Schilling is amazing! She did an outstanding job. Grant Bowler as Hank Reardon was another good choice as well. Botton line: Excellent movie; highly recommended.

What a breath of fresh air! A movie portraying common sense thinking and pro self reliant taking pride in your work ethic themes. Perfect example is where the govt wants to buy the rights to Rearden Metal so he can't provide the market with low cost, better quality product because it would potentially hurt unions steel shops making inferior products at higher costs. Govt stooge asks why would he want to keep working when he is already wealthy. He can't fathom taking pride in your work and what you provide to the rest of the world. Being able to watch a movie without all of the liberal pablum being shoved down your throat is a wonderful change. Its no wonder Hollywood buried this movie for decades. They knew if people saw how corrupt and non sensical the Big Government cronyism and dumbing down of the individual on the big screen people would start thinking for themselves and turn away from liberalism forever!

In my opinion, a very accurate depiction of what various political forces would do in a future crisis. We are not told what caused the economic woes, but the justifications for laws and policies passed by those who worship the "god" of big government sure ring true. Just as James Carville said, "never let a good crisis go to waste".

Ayn Rand novels from more than fifty years ago told of repression from a corporate elite that wants to preserve the status quo. Sounds like a lot of the things that are happening around the world right now. Excellent series of three movies.

Having read the book, I was delighted to hear someone finally made it into a movie. I gladly paid to see this in the theater and now can enjoy it at home. The second movie, "Who is John Galt" is set for release in fall 2012. Can't wait!

Again, just really like that it makes you think. The direction we are headed is quite likely the same way many things in this movie portrays...and it's based on a book much older and years ahead of its time.

Entertaining. Thought provoking. Hopefully not the way things are going to end up in this country. Although it looks like it more and more each day.
