Synopsis

August Rush
Estranged from his parents by circumstance and nudged toward a foster family, a young boy seeks out his long-lost folks and discovers prodigious musical talent in this family-oriented drama from Disco Pigs director Kirsten Sheridan. In the aftermath of a passionate night together above New York's Washington Square, a charismatic Irish guitarist named Louis (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers) and a reserved cellist named Lyla (Keri Russell) are forced apart by fate. Despite the fact that they do not remain together, however, their fleeting union has created something amazing that neither could have ever anticipated -- a baby. Unfortunately, just after the child's birth, the mother is misinformed that the infant has died. Cut to 11 years later, when the child, Evan, is living in a Gotham-area boys' home and has developed an acute ability to listen to the sounds of the outside world -- hoping against all hope that his biological mother and father will turn up to claim him, while those in charge try to encourage him to open himself up to the possibility of adoption. Unduly rejecting these bids, Evan runs away into the city. Out on the streets, the child falls into the clutches of a manipulative, untrustworthy street person named Wizard (Robin Williams), who renames Evan "August Rush" and opens the boy up to the depth and breadth of his own musical talent even as he smells the opportunity to grow rich off of the foundling. Meanwhile, Evan/August's hope persists that he will be reunited with his folks, and Louis and Lyla, unable to forget their initial night of love, feel themselves being drawn back together by fate. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

    What A Suprise

I was a little worried when I watched this movie in the theatres because, only watching it once, it had great music, but the plot was very ordinary. The major redeeming point was that it starred Robin Williams in a role that was not what he normally played. But this movie was not about him, it's about a young boy who is in an orphange and knows that his parents would want him if they could hear the music. We find out later how his parents met and how he was given up for adoption. He meets a street performer and his natural abilities to turn the most ordinary sounds into an orchestra of music begins to shines. August, the main character, eventually finds himself in a church where his talents are realized even more and he is shot off to Juliard. When his "father" aka the street performer finds this out, August must make a choice... To conduct his symphony or not to. You have to watch to see what happens, but remember watch this movie if you love music. Don't just watch it for the storyline (which eventually does get better)

Ever since I saw the previews on TV, I wanted to see this movie. It is an overall good movie, although the reviews weren't that great. The music is wonderful, I've listened to the sound track so many times. The movie may be predictable but it is fun to watch and the actors did a great job. I came out of the movie theater wanting to see it again. The only reason I didn't was because I refuse to spend another $8 to watch a movie plus drinks and maybe popcorn. Which is why I prefer to purchase movies, and you can see them as many times as you want. I will be buying this for Blu-ray, although there are NO HD EXTRA supplements, I believe there may be 14 minutes of additional scenes (480P). Something is better than nothing.

This movie is full of every kind of emotion while a boy goes on his journey to find his parents; through music. He says that he actually hears his parents music playing in his head. The problem is that his mother thought he died, and his dad could not find her anywhere. So the boy runs away from his home where he ony has one friend. He eventually gets lost, and the person who comes and tries to find him cannot. The only other thing that I can tell you is that there is a happy ending. This movie is perfect for almost anyone, and especially music lovers. When I watch it, it always makes me happy!

This movie is about love lost, but found again thru the faith and determination of a young boy! The child always felt that if his parents could only hear his love calling to them thru his music then they would be drawn to him! It reminds me of the Fathers love for us, even when we are separated from Him, for whatever reasons, if we would just be still, and listen, we would hear the music of the Fathers love calling out to us and if we would heed that call then we too would find the True Love we have been looking for all our lives!!!

It is about time a fine Irish actor like Jonathan Rhys Meyers is being recognized for his work. My girlfriend and I have been following him since his first role in "Michael Collins" and he hasn't let up since. He's a brilliant actor, and in this film he truly shines - he even sings, too, and has a fantastic voice. We also definitely recommend the soundtrack. Everything about this movie is wondrous and fantastical!

My husband and I enjoy this movie over and over. We enjoyed this movie so, much I had to buy the soundtrack. I would recomend this movie. I would have like to have seen more relationship between August and his parents at the end. Maybe there could be a sequel. The music is very moving. I didn't like Robin Williams character I wanted to hate him. ( He is a wonderful actor)

This movie is about a young boy who feels he can find his parents through the music that is in his heart. The actors (especially Freddie Highmore and Robin Williams) made the roles rich and the movie that much more enjoyable. The blu-ray format helped to make the film even more enjoyable with its richer video. If you like films that show the strength of the human spirit you'll truly enjoy August Rush.

This is not your run in the mill story. I love watching movies but very few movies has touched my soul. I don't know if it was the music or the storyline. It was very magical and makes you believe in fate and the higher power of love. I could not get myself away from it. I hope who ever is reading this will consider watching this great film. The child actor was perfect for the part.
