Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me [WS] [DVD] [1999]

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me is presented in its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio, already a step ahead of the original. The full-length screen-specific audio commentary continues along the lines of the first film's disc, with director Jay Roach and Mike Myers joined by co-writer Michael McCullers. The track is adequate and the participants joke around enough to keep it appealing. The 25-minute behind-the-scenes documentary consists mostly of cast and crew interviews and on-set footage. The 21 deleted scenes have some humorous improvisational moments but all seem worthy of their cutting-room-floor status. Three music videos by Madonna, Lenny Kravitz, and Mel B are also included, as well as all of the film's worthwhile trailers and extensive DVD-ROM features. Finally, a "hidden" Dr. Evil menu appears on the special features menu after a few minutes. The best selection here is a parody of A&E Biography called "The Dr. Evil Story" that features interviews and recollections with the entire cast in character and has plenty of laughs. Links to Dr. Evil's musical numbers and "Classic Evil Schemes Gone Awry" are also a part of the hidden menu. Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me keeps in the tradition of the original film's DVD by offering a good amount of extras presented in the same quirky and humorous style as the movies.

    Synopsis

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me
Austin Powers -- fashion photographer, denizen of Swingin' London, international espionage agent, and bane of dental hygienists everywhere -- returns in his second screen adventure. Powers (once again played by Mike Myers), a 1960s superspy stranded in the 1990s, discovers that his nemesis, criminal genius Dr. Evil (also Mike Myers), has somehow stolen his "mojo" (the secret to his otherwise inexplicable sex appeal) and traveled back in time to the 1960s as part of his latest fiendish scheme. Powers must also travel back in time to retrieve it, but if Austin doesn't quite fit into 1998, he's been there just long enough not to fit in in 1968 anymore, either. Powers also discovers that Dr. Evil has new allies this time: Mini-Me (Verne Troyer), a clone of Dr. Evil one-eighth his size but just as nasty; Fat Bastard (Myers yet again), whose name describes him just fine; and vixenish assassin Robin Swallows (Gia Carides). Powers' lack of mojo also proves troublesome when he's paired with his new partner, saucy CIA operative Felicity Shagwell (Heather Graham). Other characters returning from the first film include Elizabeth Hurley as Vanessa Kensington, Robert Wagner as Number Two, Michael York as Basil Exposition, Seth Green as Scott Evil, and Mindy Sterling as Frau Farbissina. Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me also includes cameo appearances from Tim Robbins, Jerry Springer, Woody Harrelson, and Burt Bacharach with his current songwriting partner, Elvis Costello. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

If you havent seen it yet then buy it

If you have'nt seen it after the numerous times it has appeared on network televison then i suggest you buy or rent it. If you havent heard the jokes already, then you'll find it funny. But the jokes are only funny once, theyll only make you laugh the first time. And if you have seen any other austin powers movie, you'll notice that alot of the jokes are almost the same, and get repetitive if you've seen another Austin Power movie. If you havent seen it then go ahead and see it, youll enjoy it. But if youve seen any other Austin Power movie and didnt enjoy it then odds are you wont like this. But if youve seen any other Austin Powers movie and liked them then youll like this one too, since most have the same plot, and similar jokes.

This is a pretty good price for this movie upgrading from DVD. It's merely a standard case but the colors of the cover make it thematically match the parts 1 and 2. Good quality watch!

      Too Much Like the Original

'Austin Powers: the Spy Who Shagged Me,' is just too much like the original, and only tries to outdo its predecessor rather than compliment it. I just didn't care for this sequel, but this is a great dvd for those who did.
