Bad Boys/Bad Boys II [Includes Digital Copy] [UltraViolet] [Blu-ray] [2 Discs]

Includes Digital Copy
Bad Boys I and II are featured in this special digitally enhanced collection. Former video director Michael Bay had his first big hit with the 1995 action comedy, which also returned producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson to the big-budget, high-violence movies that they successfully churned out in the '80s. Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) are two Miami cops who watch as 100 million dollars in heroin, from the biggest drug bust of their careers, is stolen out of the basement of police headquarters. This puts them hot on the trail of French drug lord Fouchet (Tchéky Karyo), who leaves a trail of bodies in his wake and only one witness, Julie Mott (Téa Leoni), who quickly teams up with our heroes. In the 2003 sequel, Burnett and Lowrey have been assigned to head up a task force to investigate the illegal trafficking of ecstasy into the city. They discover that an underground gang war has been instigated by drug kingpin Johnny Tapia (Jordi Molla). In order to cut off the flow of the designer drug, they have to take down Tapia.

Synopsis

Bad Boys
Former video director Michael Bay had his first big hit with this action comedy, which also returned producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson to the big-budget, high-violence movies that they successfully churned out in the '80s. Comic hijinks ensue when plot complications force Mike to impersonate the married Marcus, to the point of moving in with his wife and children, while Marcus takes over Mike's bachelor pad and lifestyle. Car chases, snappy one-liners, and nonstop pacing fuel this umpteenth variation on the cop "buddy" formula. ~ Don Kaye, Rovi

Bad Boys II
Stars Martin Lawrence and Will Smith return along with director Michael Bay and producer Jerry Bruckheimer for this sequel to the 1995 sleeper hit Bad Boys, the film that sparked the careers of both actors, as well as Bay. Once again, Lawrence and Smith play hotshot, wisecracking Miami narcotics officers Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowrey. This time around, Burnett and Lowrey have been assigned to head up a task force to investigate the illegal trafficking of ecstasy into the city. They discover that an underground gang war has been instigated by drug kingpin Johnny Tapia (Jordi Molla). In order to cut off the flow of the designer drug, they have to take down Tapia. Unfortunately, there's a wrench thrown into the gears in the form of Burnett's sister Syd, whom Lowrey takes a liking to and begins a relationship with. Tensions rise between the partners, threatening both their friendship and the investigation and putting Syd in harm's way. Also returning from the first film are Joe Pantoliano as Captain Howard, Theresa Randle as Burnett's wife Theresa, and former-NBA star John Salley as 'Hacker' Fletcher. Among the supporting players new to this entry in the series are Peter Stormare and musician, spoken-word artist, and sometimes-actor Henry Rollins. ~ Matthew Tobey, Rovi

"Bad Boys" One of Bay's Best

Full disclosure: I am not a big Michael Bay movie fan. I find most of his work overblown and preposterous. However, this caffeinated Will Smith-Martin Lawrence cop comedy/adventure and its unnecessary but still fun sequel are among Bay's best (a left-handed compliment maybe, but praise nevertheless). Maybe it is the chemistry of the two stars, both in fine, foul-mouthed form; maybe it is the ultra violent plot they find themselves teasing out; maybe it is the Southern Miami settings. Anyway, "Bad Boys" works as brain candy for a dull afternoon if you have nothing better to do. And in this set, picked up on sale for a song, two pieces of candy are better than one.

I bought this for my Best FRIEND and he says "I already got these on DVD" !!! I said, "Yeahhhhhhhh you got them on blu" ???? He had no response to that. But in regards to the 1st Bad Boys movie, YES it is true....the script was HORRIBLE. Then 2nd Bad Boys, is for someone who wants lots of action and goofy comedy. There is no story behind the madness, but waaaaaaay better than Will Smith yelling with his bad acting in the 1st Bad Boys saying, "Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze" and yelling at Martin Lawrence on how to drive *grunt*

Once this set got down to $10 (it came out at $20), I took the double-dip plunge (I've had the DVDs for a long time) and I've never been regretful for it. The releases are stunning! Piped through a home theater is the best way to enjoy these but seeing this on a HDTV set is still well worth the upgrade. Smith's and Lawrence's buddy cop characters are among the best in cinema history and the baddies in both films are equally fun to watch. The action CAN be over the top but there's nothing wrong with a little (or a lot) of action in movies when that's what you've signed up for. Highly recommended.

This blue ray is worth the money. It gives you both movies for the price of one. The audio is fantastic and it really allows me to experience the sounds of the Ferrari, the gun shots, and the helicopters flying overhead in my surround sound system. One of the best features is how sharp the video is, especially in the second movie (Bad Boys II). You have to see the the Ferrari chase scene in Bad Boys II. I thought this movie was sharp in HD, and bought it to my best friends house and played in 4K upscale, the movie was fantastic. Fantastic sound, sharp images, and one of the best upscaled movies I have seen. You cannot miss.

OK, you know you love watching these two bad boys together, and this is a great collection! Both of the blu-rays look fantastic, but I will point out they were shot on film, so therefore you will see some grain in the image. Which quite frankly did not bother me in the least, it gave it a good farmiliar feel to it. They both come with plenty of extras for you to watch. The first comes with a commentary by Michael Bay, where is the second one does not. Either way if you like the movies, I think you'll enjoy this set very much. I got it from Best Buy for about $10, and I think that's a great deal!

Glad to get this classic action movie update to HD! Even after 15 years BB2 is one of my favorite action / shoot’em up flicks. The movie has an even storyline flow that changes pace but does not get bogged down in any one area of the plot. BB2 is 2hrs 27min. I’m glad they didn’t try to shorten the film to make it fit a smaller time block. They used every bit of that time to weave together multiple sub plots without getting confusing. I love it!

This is one of those movies that I had to own! I finally wore out my VHS copy and this was a good time to upgrade. This movie is non-stop action and comedy! There are some jokes I missed the first time I saw the movie and it just gets better each time I watch it. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have fantastic chemistry with this movie. I typically only buy movies that I know I will watch over and over again! The sequel was not as good as it copied a lot from the first movie, but not a bad bonus to have with it.

So I picked this up with a BOGO offer from Best Buy, and I couldn't be happier. For one, I'm getting two movies for the price of one. Secondly, they're two extremely entertaining films. The original is good but not great. It's generic and poorly directed. That said, it's hilarious and has some good action scenes. The sequel is better in every respect. It's funnier (Martin Lawrence has never been better), the action scenes are bigger, and it's surprisingly gory (I'm a horror freak so yay for me). Highly recommended bargain box set!!!
