I was going between this and Over watch and after looking into both I realized they look similar, but do not play similar. Battleborn is a FPS style MOBA, similar to League of Legends, DOTA, etc. You pick your champion, que into the game and in specific game types, you will push waves of minions while trying to destroy enemy towers while protecting your own. Over watch is more similar to Team Fortress, where you have characters and you battle each other in an open arena with no lanes. Characters will stay the same while in Battleborn you champion will level up, for only that match, and you will be able to somewhat customize your build. If you are familiar with MOBA games you will assume there is a shop at base which you buy weapons and armor, but this is not how it works I Battleborn, you create a customer layout like call of duty and join the game with preset 3 items. Battleborn does have a nice start to the game were if you join a match and are unfamiliar with the objectives, it will show everyone a small video while the game loads the map on what you are required to achieve for victory. I have about 5 hours into this game, so I would not say im an expert, but I would recommend this game to anyone who is familiar with MOBA or would like to get into it.

Great idea, but the execution keeps trying to ruin the game. Characters are cool and varied, lots of options for different play-styles. Gameplay is fun and it is great learning each character. And here is where the 'but' starts. The game has local co-op and I believe all modes can be played with bots. This experience is good, but you still have to be online and connected to Battleborn's servers. Playing with bots is relatively easy, but can be a lot of fun. The online game modes are competitive and story mode. Each story mode mission is 30-45 min long and is the most consistent part of the experience. Moving to competitive play and things start to get troubling. The biggest problems with Battleborn are that matchmaking takes a LONG time. I typically wait over 5 min for a full 9 players to be found to play with, and then choosing the map and character takes a minimum of 2 minutes as well. That is way too long to be sitting and waiting, not playing. Comparing it to Halo 5, you're into a new game under 2 min. The second problem with competitive play is the lack of being able to find balanced matches. Most matches are very lopsided. You can go from 12-4 K:D in one game to 2:10 in the next. This leaves it feeling too easy, and unsatisfying, or too difficult, and unsatisfying. I understand the nature of the game is to find friends that you can work with in a strategy to win, but being an adult and having 4 other friends who are consistently available to play is hard. Overall, I keep coming back to it every few weeks to see if there is new content. The Battleborn team seems great with providing updates and trying to balance characters. In the end, I'm sorry that I paid out for the season pass, as I have to keep playing and waiting to make sure I got my money's worth.

I love 2K and haven't disliked a game put out by them yet, but I feel a bit cheated by this game. I spent $60, and while it may eventually be worth that much, it isn't yet. The campaign is insanely fun, but painfully short. Which makes sense since it's designed to be MP game. However, the MP maps and characters are really weak. 4v5's constantly happen and games take 20 minutes + the game also just feels.... unfinished. I feel like I'm playing more of a BETA than a full game. I have put 1000+ hours in LoL, Smite, Paragon, etc. and while this does a good job trying to blend genres, it isn't nearly as elaborate as those or as simple as Overwatch or Paladins. Overall, it stuck itself in a weird middle zone and just makes the game feel awkward.

That's right 5 stars and it's because in this day and age, we have accepted not being able to play with people in couch co-op. We that grew up in the early 1990's know that almost every cool game was 1-2 player. The times have shifted, but this game res urges old feelings of both unity and function. My girlfriend and I play online all the time and we both level up at the same time. The only thing that I had an issue with was unlocking the first few playable characters after the prologue for my girlfriend. This is only a minor gripe as there is a lot of things to unlock like new characters, abilities, and appearances. In order to fully appreciate this title, one would need to have a person to play with at home against the minions that you'll have to overcome. Boss battles are amazing and gameplay is rewarding. A must have!

My first thoughts when I saw the trailer for this game was how did this and Overwatch have such a similar concept. Like Overwatch I pass over this game but my friend kept telling me how fun it was and that it has a story mode. I finally made the leap and bought it for cheap and haven't been disappointed yet. Story reminds me of Borderlands, which is over the top as it is, and takes it to the next level. Haven't played the pvp mode so I can't speak on that but the characters are pretty straightforward when it comes to customization. After playing a few levels I found myself asking how did this lose to Overwatch again? If you and friends don't mind playing an over the top game then I definitely recommend getting Battleborn.

I am very familiar with all of the major shooters out there. I was pleasantly surprised when I played this game to discover that this was not a retread of what has already been done. This is a Moba with 3 main game modes, plus a full campaign. There are 25 characters at launch and 5 more characters and game modes will be added later on free of charge. There are plenty of different types of characters that will fit with most peoples play styles. You have Healers, Tanks ( large characters with a lot of health), snipers, sword fighters, and even some characters that call of duty fans will feel right at home with. I would suggest this game to anybody that is tired of your average shooter and is looking for a welcome change of pace.

There's a reason Overwatch beat this into oblivion

For $6 I couldn't pass this up; 2K is a solid studio and I figured this game was just brutally overshadowed by Overwatch. Having played for a few hours there are some bizarre design choices here; the 5v5 / MOBA style arenas are different than anything I've seen and the cast of characters is certainly...eclectic, if not outright weird. Skill trees are neat and allow a great degree of tweaking. The gunplay is nothing special; I have the same "meh" reaction from shooting an enemy as I had in Borderlands...just a total lack of impact. Online servers are sluggish overall compared to the AAA stuff out there. Overall, can't beat it for the price but you get what you pay for.

Battleborn comes with a great pedigree with gearbox and take 2 being behind it, but it's essentially 2 years too late to the multi-player shooter game. It's not compelling and the idea of needing to level up to buy characters is a HUGE negative. One of the reasons Overwatch is so popular is because all the characters are available from the beginning. This game is fighting for bottom of the barrel status with Paladins from Hi-Rez studios. At full price, it's an absolute game to avoid. For the clearance price Best Buy has though, it's alright for killing a few hours, but even that sometimes is not satisfying.
