I've been a fan of Battlestar Galactica ever since I was a little kid back in the late 70s. I liked the show, I had the toys, etc. I even like the reboot series and its various spinoffs. And yes, I have the DVDs for all of it. Focusing on this release, this 35th Anniversary Blu-Ray is the original first three episodes edited together into one two hour movie. Having seen the original series only on standard definition TV and DVD, I was really looking forward to seeing the crispness of the picture and hearing great sound. BSG was shot on film and the quality shows in this transfer to Blu-Ray for this release. I watched this at a friend's house on his 32 inch Bravia and the detail was AMAZING - models, sets, actors, costumes...even the effects looked great. This is quite the jump up from the picture quality of the DVD series set I purchased a number of years ago. The sound was great and I wasn't even listening to it in 5.1!
The only downside to this release is that this is an extremely bare-bones disc. There are no extras. My DVD series set has plenty of extras, and I hope that if Universal decides to release the entire series on Blu-Ray, that the extras are included, and hopefully brought up to Blu-Ray quality, too. I'll be in line on release day if that happens.
