Synopsis

Beautiful Creatures
Lena has just moved to the small, Southern town of Gatlin, where the only person who seems to understand her -- or dream of bigger places or ideas -- is a cute guy named Ethan Wate (Alden Ehrenreich), who recognizes her instantly from the cryptic dreams he's been having every night. Lena is an orphan, and she's come to stay with her mysterious uncle, Macon Ravenwood (Irons), the patriarch of her powerful family. Powerful, because The Ravenwood clan are Casters, born with powers that ordinary mortals don't have, like the ability to move objects, control the elements, and even step out of normal space and time to communicate only with each other. But just as Lena feels ready to open up to Ethan, she discovers that their love is in imminent danger, because when female Casters turn 16, their destiny as either good or evil is revealed. Unwilling to let her nature be dictated by forces outside her control, Lena and Ethan set out together to uncover the strange, secret lore of their families' intertwined histories dating back to the Civil War, and figure out how to grant Lena the power to choose her own destiny. ~ Cammila Collar, Rovi

Ok, so I understand they had to leave some things out, but completely changing it?? Come on!!! It was like some of it was a COMPLETE LIE!! I really hope they don't make a part 2 to this series. I watched it with my husband (who is going now going to read the books as well) and I would tell him which parts were in the book and which parts were NOT in the book. My favorite part was in fact the dinner scene (even though that didn't happen in the book)...just because that was the only real "magic" that happened in the movie. Where were the storms? Her hair twirling? Boo Radley the dog?? Please people, do yourselves a favor, read the books!!!

I wanted this movie to be good, but sadly it was not, The acting is pretty bad, you can tell they coached a lot of the cast on what to do, it feels very low end, I liked the plot, seemed like a cool idea, I wanted more special effects though. I'm assuming they shot this on a budget, just like the first Twilight & Hunger Games, then if it caught on they would have more money on the next, I doubt they will make another though, to the $5 bin it shall end up.

Sometimes a Twilight Knock Off Ain't So Bad

Since Twilight was released to box office (rather than critical) acclaim, Hollywood has been churning out various young adult film adaptations. Beautiful Creatures falls into this category, however, unlike Twilight and several of those other films, it's a visual feast to behold and several key actors are handled by seasoned acting veterans. Fun to watch, though the film just kinda. . . .ends.

A well written book series gets a worthy movie. With the explosion of YA books getting movies, this is among the better of the genre. This is a bit of a twist over your typical witches and mortals battle. Of course some of it is predictable but it doesnt take away from the experience at all. It reminds you what it is like to fight for love and the good it brings.

I have never read the book series this is associated with so I can't really compare the accuracy between the movie and the book, but I really enjoyed the movie. Sometimes the acting ability of the lead female character is subpar but overall I really enjoyed the movie. The only DVD extra's were a few deleted scenes, nothing worth while though.

Initially I watched the movie because I had seen the trailer for it. Most of the time a movie is not better than the trailer, but this time it was. Also there is some quality literature referenced during the film.

I found the film to be entertaining when I watched it, but admit that little of the film remains with me after a few weeks, so it was fairly predictable to me and did not make a lasting impression on me.
