    Synopsis

    Begin Again
An ambitious young female singer moves to New York City in search of stardom, but finds only disappointment until falling for a struggling record-industry executive who helps her down the road to fame. Songwriting duo Gretta (Keira Knightley) and Dave (Adam Levine) had been dating since college when they decided to seek their fortune in NYC. When Dave is signed by a major label, temptation proves too powerful for him to resist and the couple call it quits. Crestfallen, Gretta fights to get back on her feet until one night, while performing in the East Village, she catches the attention of Dan (Mark Ruffalo), a once-respected music executive who's since fallen on hard times. Enchanted by Gretta's powerful voice and skillful songwriting, Dan convinces her to join him in a collaboration that will transform them both over the course of one unforgettable summer. Written and directed by John Carney (Once, Zonad). ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

John Carney portrays the struggling life of a woman who gets dumped by a rising pop star, only to find a washed up music exec with a broken process. When the two decide to collaborate together to make a record, new relationships are formed while old relationships try to rekindle. Filled with stellar performances by Kiera Knightly and Mark Ruffalo, the music in the film is fresh and original, provided that all of the lyrics are heartfelt and genuine. All and all, this makes for a crowd pleasing romantic comedy with a hint of laughter, heartache and lots of 'f-bombs'. A must see for any music lover.

It's not surprising that Begin Again works as well as it does. It's a sincere, heartfelt picture about reality versus illusion, about being oneself in the world rather than becoming what the world says one should be, about challenging the status quo and daring to believe that there's more to life than crude structure and soul-draining trends. It's smartly written, wonderfully performed, and effortlessly directed. The music is catchy, too.

I was totally blown away how great a movie Once is so when I saw that this movie was by the same director I didn't hesitate. As a life long NYer I can appreciate the idea of using the streets of NY as opposed to a studio as a canvas for this really good film of a washed up A&R guy finding raw talent in a dumpy open mic bar. The only thing that was out of whack was how he always got parking in Manhattan.

If this movie accomplishes one thing it will make Keira Knightly pursue a career in music. The movie shows how being famous can change you in both positive and negative ways. I can say that this movie will put you in a good mood throughout. If you have a bad day put in “Begin Again” and you will feel somewhat better. The only real gripe I have is that the first act was a little bit slow.

Who knew Keira Knightley could carry a tune? She equates herself very well in this drama about a singer/songwriter who falls hard after her boyfriend (Adam Levine) and her split. Mark Ruffalo plays a music producer who finds a spark in developing her as a solo artist and brings her back to life with the recording of her album. Entertaining movie with a very good cast.

I have not had time myself to watch this movie. I am a big movie buff and have a lot of movies and tv shows. I don't always have the time due to working during the week and during the fall and spring time its hard with tv shows on every night. The only time I get time is weekends. But Rotten Tomato's have rated it pretty good. The previews look good too.

A romantic comedy with a twist, more of a dramedy, it may no be perfect but it's a good film. If you like music, behind the scenes of artists creating work, and a good underdog story, then you'll like this film. I was pleasantly surprised to find out Keira Knightly did her own singing and she's not half bad.

Great feel good movie at just the right time. Entire cast excelled to bring the movie a sense of realism to the point where you could easily see yourself in their shoes. Without a doubt fell in love with the characters and rooted for them throughout the show.
