Disappointing performance so back it wentPosted .No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Let me start off by saying that I am a dedicated Belkin wireless customer. I have used their wireless products starting when their pre-N line was first launched and over the years have gravitated to their latest N1 line of wireless products. In terms of Belkin stuff I already own/regularly use, I use their N1 wireless router, USB N1 wireless adapter, N1 laptop Express Card and N1 PCMCIA laptop card. I bought this as an upgrade to my existing Belkin N1 router since it claims to have even greater range, has the ability to monitor multiple wireless users, and has a display screen that looks cool. Unfortunately, the N1 Vision wireless router was a major disappointment for me so I decided to return it. Here's why: In terms of getting started, the autostart software did not run as claimed so I had to manually set up the router. Good thing I was already familiar with how to do this since I had to go through the same process with the "regular" Belkin N1 router that I already own. Although the modem has a cool looking interface, I found the touch pad buttons to be too closely positioned to one another so that it wasn't as easy to tell which button was being pushed and found it more difficult to manuever through the different screens than it should be, IMO. My biggest gripe is that set up challenges aside, the router kept on dropping the wireless signal and had to be manually reset. I thought maybe that Belkin support might have some patches to download to fix the problems I was having but found nothing available. After I had to reset the modem for the 5th or 6th time, I decided that, although it looks cool, this router was not worth the premium price and decided to return it for a refund (which was handled without any problems at my local Best Buy store earlier today). Not to be completely negative here, I did like the fact that interface has a screen that shows the date and time. I thought that was cool and a useful thing to have on my messy desk. Unfortunately, I couldn't justify the premium price (roughly 2x price of the regular Belkin N1 wireless router) simply to have a cool looking electronic clock/calendar, esp. when it wasn't able to consistently do what I originally bought it for --- providing a reliable wireless signal for my home network. So in the end, I decided to re-connect my old Belkin N1 router and have had no such problems with the signal getting dropped. At some point, I'd still be interested/willing to buy a "premium" N1 wireless modem from Belkin but only after they work out all the bugs. This is still an unproven product that is not as reliable as it should be for the premium price you have to pay.

Not for MePosted .I would recommend this to a friend
I bought this because I thought N1 technology would be faster and more reliable than the N technology I was using, and as stated by other reviewers, it looks really cool. I had no problems setting up the router, everything was as it needed to be when on my desktop, connecting my laptop after the fact was a bit more taxing on my patience but did get there eventually. I have no idea why but for some reason the N1 didn't give me the speeds I consistently get with my N router. So, obviously, despite the cool display I couldn't tolerate lower speeds. So, returned mine to best buy along with the network card with No hassles and all are happy.

OkPosted .No, I would not recommend this to a friend
This router originally worked great. But after almost two months of use I realized that it gets very hot and will sometimes just drop the signal. The most annoying part is desktops will stay connected but laptops will not get any. And recently it just started shutting down at random times. It is a simple yet annoying fix of having to unplug it and plug it back in. The worst part is anyone who still has signal then loses it for the time it takes for it to reboot.

Very Good RouterPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
I got the router up and working fairly quickly. I had to call tech support, however, for help to get my four 802.11G clients to access the router. Tech support was in India, but the woman spoke fair English and provided a solution that quickly resolved the problem. I was talking with the representative in about 3 minutes (it was 2am on a Saturday). The problems I encountered were (1) my Comcast VOIP/Internet modem repeatedly failed to open an internet connection; I reset the modem and the router which eliminated the problem, and (2) the clients at first couldn't see the router, then found the router but reported the router used security but in fact I had disabled router security; Tech Support had me set 64-bit WEP encryption on the router, the clients could then see it and log on using the 64-bit key. No problems since. I do note that despite claims and reports of enormous physical coverage, I get only a "low" or "poor" signal in my office, which is one floor above the router (which is in the basement), and about 50 feet away. The house is a wood frame. I do notice much faster transfer speeds between computers in my house and on the network. Note that all four of these clients use Microsoft MN-520 802.11G PC-Cards. So I estimate the speeds will be even faster if I swap them for Belkin N1 cards.

Fancy, but not reliable or very configurablePosted .No, I would not recommend this to a friend
I purchased this about 6 months ago for use in my home office. It set up very easily due to the very simple configuration program and limited amount of "knobs and levers" that you could configure. For example, there was no way to set up QoS for my VoIP adapter which caused calls to break up if there was a large download at the same time. I finally gave up on this when it started to continually reboot after making certain configuration changes. Resetting to the factory defaults with the latest firmware did not fix. Sometimes, changed a single parm from the default would be enought to start the endless reboots. Bottom line - this is pretty to look at but not very robust. Not recommended!

Don't judge a router by it's cover!Posted .I would recommend this to a friend
I was eagerly anticipating the arrival of this router. Needless to say I purchased it on the release date. Once setup at home I had frequent lost connections and some incompatibility issues. IT WAS NOT COMPATABLE WITH XBOX 360 wireless. By the next day it wasn't even working with my other Belkin peripherals. With no help from Belkin tech support I returned the unit back to Best Buy for another N1 vision replacement. This one worked flawlessly with all my wirelss devices (except with my 360). I have always purchased Belkin products and am very satisfied. So despite the incompatibility with the xbox I still kept it and just "piggybacked" another router to this one. Pros: *Sleek and beautiful design *Handy having an on screen list of all wireless devices connected * Easily displays download and upload speeds * Good range and transfer speeds Cons: * "CD-less" installation doesn't always work * Not as "user friendly" as some routers on the market * Some minor incompatibility issues which may (hopefully) be fixed wit ha firmware update Overall I would recommend this to a friend (who has at least some knowledge of networking)

Worthless PaperweightPosted .No, I would not recommend this to a friend
I bought this a few months ago after the IT guy at work recommended it after he had purchased one for his home late last year. Seemed to work fine even with my PS3. Then my friend started complaining about having connection problems with his home network. Not too long after it appeared to lock up. Everything looked normal, but no connection with any PC or wireless device, and the router wouldn't respond on the faceplate. I unplugged it and let it reboot, then it worked. Seemed to fix the problem. Ironically, my friend's did the exact same thing the same morning. It has "locked up" a few more times since, making me rethink whether to keep it. Now over the past week I've come in to find the unit actually off. Replugging it in reboots it, but anywhere from one hour to a day later, it's off again. Found out my IT friend had returned his a month ago after finding all the network problems he was having at home was based on this router. He said it worked fine until he did the latest firmware update which was about when I bought mine and did the update when installing it. Neither of us would recommend this router at this point to anyone. He will go as far as to not recommend any Belkin products at this point after now having technical issues with a few newer Belkin KVM switches he bought for the office which stopped working as well. I'm planning to return this router today and probably get a Linksys again, which I've had good luck with over the years....unless one of the reviews here suggest something else. Should have read them before buying this Belkin.

Best N Router EVERPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
While shopping for a wireless N router, I was looking for one with around the equivalent speed of a wired connection, high speed while using multiple wireless devices and more. At first I was a bit hessitant to buy this product because of all of the negative reviews that I had read. I decided to try it anyway because I saw a pretty good video review of the product that impressed me. Besides, there was only way to find out. Value: If you want/need a high quality router with excellent performance, sometimes you just have to close your eyes and buy. Ease of Use: With the LCD display, you can easily view your computer's bandwidth usage, the status of your network devices, your network's broadband speed and more. Performance: The performance of the Belkin N1 Vision is excellent. I use it for my desktop computer, my MacBook, and my Playstation 3. I was suprised with the high speed that I got when using those systems simultaneously (Downloading simultaneously also). The signal strength is very strong. I have not experienced any "disconnetions" or anything like that using the Belkin N1 Vison. Another thing that impressed me was the video buffering speed on my wireless devices. With my previous router, watching videos on youtube was a complete pain. Not anymore though. Ease if installation: Ok, before I start on this section, please make sure that you set up your router starting with the Quick Installation Guide booklet (DO NOT USE THE CD TO BEGIN THE SETUP OF THE ROUTER. THE CD IS THERE FOR ASSISTANCE IF YOU NEED HELP). Read the steps (only 7) word for word. If you follow the included instructions exactly, the Belkin N1 Vision will be THE last router you will buy. All in all, this is a very very great router. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
