Great Everyday Use
||Posted .I use this to warm up an electric bed, which I prefer before I go in it. I used to leave it on all day or forget to turn it off. Now I can schedule when it comes on/off. It was easy to setup and access your home wifi network. The App is easy to use and you can see the device status. Wish wemo wasn't as bulky, monitor electric usage from app, also the led status light a bit bigger. Overall I would recommend this and am considering buying another for the living room.

Works...some of the time.
||Posted .I've been using Wemo switches for a couple of years now. I've been trying to automate my house. I bought this to use in conjunction with my Amazon Echo (i have several around the house). The problem is, it works about 50% of the time. I find myself having an argument with Alexa for about five minutes every night trying to get her to shut off lights. This is clearly a problem with the API and/or the Wemo app itself. Most of the time the devices "are not responding." Often when I open the Wemo app it takes a long time for all of the devices to register. I recently bought several Philips Hue bulbs (also at Best Buy) and those work incredibly well. They always go on and off when asked. So now i'm considering taking out all of the Wemo switches and just putting Hue bulbs in all of the lamps in the house. A very expensive switch to say the least. (Pun intended)

Great gadget but not without roblems
||Posted .if you're looking to switch something on and off remotely - such as a lamp - to give that added element of security when away from home, the Wemo is great. Timer rules can be set so it switches on at, or around, sunset (it recognises its location and therefore the daily sunset and sunrise times) and go off either at, or around, sunrise, or at a time of your choosing. It can also be switched on and off remotely via the phone app. Brilliant. One flaw, however, is that if you have to reset your modem for any reason, it appears to lose contact with it. The wemo continues to work independently, but can require a reset to re-sync it with the modem. Resetting, while theoretically simple, can prove a bit of a hassle and require several attempts. That said, it is a minor irritation in comparison to the huge benefits the Wemo switch can bring. I intend to buy more as and when required.

Quick setup, simple Alexa integration
||Posted .I purchased an Amazon Echo as a Christmas present for my wife, and figured that I should purchase some "smart home" devices to augment that gift. In all honesty, I didn't know much about the various options available, and needed to do some research. Obviously, the Phillips Hue line is a big name in smart home illumination, but I was drawn to the Belkin WeMo products because they would quickly integrate with my existing lighting. Being simply an additional component between the outlet and anything you would plug into it, it seems that there is more inherent flexibility in the application of the technology. Another benefit of the WeMo system is that, while most other ecosystems require an additional "hub" device, these do not - they are simply connected to your WiFi router directly. This meant they would be comparatively inexpensive to get up and running. Setup is relatively painless, requiring a WiFi router, and a smartphone capable of installing the Belkin WeMo app. Once you've installed the app, you have to connect directly to the adhoc WiFi connection created by the switch device when you press the single button on top. This will first pair the device directly with your phone and register it in the WeMo app. You then have to connect to your home WiFi router to finalize the connection between the device and your router. The scant directions on the box do not make this clear, but you can find a video on YouTube that will walk you through the process. You also may have to turn off an option (at least in Android) that automatically switches to your data connection when wireless is unavailable, as that can interfere with this process. Once your device is fully paired, you can name it something descriptive - say "living room lamp" - for easier identification in the WeMo app. This also comes in handy when integrating voice commands via Alexa. We initially connected our Christmas tree to one of the switches, which we naturally named "Christmas tree" in the app, and a display of light-up houses to the other one, nicknamed "Christmas Village". To enable voice commands, you can open the Alexa app on your smartphone, open the menu and select "Smart Home", then select "discover devices" at the bottom of the page. Alternatively, just say "Alexa, discover new devices" and it should find and integrate with your WeMo devices (as well as any other "smart home" devices you may have). If you modify the name of a device, as was the case when we removed the Christmas tree from our home and replaced it with a floor lamp, you will have to do this discovery again before it will recognize the new name via voice command. After you've done this, you will be able to say "Alexa, turn on {device name}" (in our initial configuration, we could say "Alexa, turn on the Christmas tree" and "Alexa, turn on the Christmas Village" and it would succeed every time). In conclusion, if you are looking for a quick and inexpensive way to get in on the Smart Home craze, the Belkin WeMo Smart Switch is a great introductory device which will definitely augment the usefulness of a voice command system such as Amazon Echo. We've only had these for two weeks or so at this point, so time will tell how long they last, but the Belkin name gives me confidence, as I've had quite a few of their products in the past and have not been disappointed, including our current WiFi router. The fact that you do not need an additional hub device (other than your router) is a huge benefit.

Convenient
||Posted .I bought this wifi switch particularly for my air conditioner window unit in my apartment. It's been about 100 degrees all summer and waiting until I got home to turn my ac on was taking too long to cool off before going to sleep. With this I can turn it on about an hour or two before I get home with my phone and it's nice and cool when I walk in the door. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because there has been a few times I have turned it off after I've left the house with the app and when I went to turn it back on at night before returning home found out that it's been running all day even though the light had shown it was turned off after clicking the button. So you have to make sure and double check the app again at some point during the day to be sure that it has really turned off. Other than that it has been a very convenient product.

Easy Home Automation
||Posted .I have a few of these around the house and they work quite well, not perfect. Pros: -Setup and updating firmware is easy. -Works flawlessly when online. Cons: - Why is this device so big? -The iDevice app has quirks requiring constant refreshing. -WiFi range is a little less that most devices in the same area.

Q: QuestionIs it compatible with the Amazon Echo?
Asked by BobC.
- A:Answer The wall switches and outlet switches can. I have the Echo and it works great. Switches can be controlled as a group too. As I have done for my landscaping lighting. i have 11 of the wall and outlet switches. The WeMo bulbs do not work with Echo, I found this out after buying.

Q: QuestionDoes this require a monthly service fee?
Asked by Ray.
- A:Answer Short answer: no. In your home, the device connects to your WiFi. However, you can also sign up for an IFFFT account and control your device from the cloud using a myriad of internet-based data. That account is also free, and one of the reasons I bought the device since it will be located far away from my home.

Q: QuestionThis may sound stupid- but can I use the app to operate the Belkin switch, say.... from India?
Asked by Sarah.
- A:Answer Yes, you can. I used to turn and off the lights in the house to freak out my boyfriend when I would travel. A very fun game.

Q: QuestionWill this work with the Google Home?
Asked by Hankahsbana.
- A:Answer I am an employee in the connected home department at Best Buy and at the moment the switch will not work with Google Home. But there might be a future update that will allow you to do this.

Q: QuestionWhat is the max load it will handle? Can it control a window air conditioner (120 V, 12 Amps)
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Yes, I used mine to control a window a/c. Great convenience to be able to turn on before I get home. But software is lacking. Sometimes the app doesnt show all of my devices, has crashed a few times, and the scheduler does not work at all.

Q: QuestionCan I use the Belkin switch to turn my TV on when I'm not home? Have tried to set it up but it seems the TV power goes out when the switch is turned off and needs to be turned on with the remote.
Asked by Clare.
- A:Answer You're right that it won't. Once the power goes off the TV shuts down. When you switch the power back on (via Wemo) the TV would need to be manually turned back on. There may be a type of SmartTV that you could buy that would allow you access to turn it on and off via internet. Not sure.

Q: Questioncan you turn a thermostat up or down
Asked by mr.
- A:Answer No, all this can do it turn the outlet on and off. I use mine to turn a neon wall clock on and off on a schedule so it doesnt stay lit 24/7.

Q: QuestionPlanning to put this switch in my attic. Is it safe? given the temp can be hot during summer?
Asked by vin.
- A:Answer It should be fine, as long as the rating of the device to be switched is below the specified rating, switch is rated for 15A, but my comment on it, is better if used below such rating, these devices are safety tested so they should be OK for indoor use, if not should be stated in the specs or instructions. Hope everything goes well, this is my second device and so far they work as intended, using them with Alexa expands the possibilities.
