    Beyond the Door
This hysterical horror film was the most successful of numerous Italian possession films produced in the wake of The Exorcist. Lead Juliet Mills (Nanny and the Professor) was married to co-screenwriter Roberto d'Ettore Piazzoli at the time, which might explain her willingness to curse in a guttural voice, spin her head, and throw up in this crude and sexist film. Mills plays the cheating wife of San Francisco record producer Gabriele Lavia (Profondo Rosso) and gets pregnant after a fling with Richard Johnson. What Mills doesn't know is that Johnson is a Satanist, and she is bearing the Antichrist. Child star David Colin, Jr. returned in the otherwise unrelated Beyond the Door II, while director Ovidio Assonitis went on to rip off Jaws with the giant octopus-epic Tentacoli. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi

Great for an old forgotten horror!

For an old horror, this film was a lot of fun. My wife and I loved it! There often comes a time in the world of film making when two different film makers will come across the same script. Usually one will succeed and the other will go virtually unnoticed. Which is the case here. This film is almost exactly like The Exorcist, only in this one it's the wife that becomes possessed not a little girl. But some of the scenes are exactly the same, such as, the famous 'head turning' scene. This film was made at the same time, but was released one year after The Exorcist. The Exorcist obviously beat it out with a higher budget and big name actors. Plus, the fact that The Exorcist is probably one of the greatest horror movies ever made. Hence, this film went unnoticed. In fact, I myself had never heard of it until it's recent release to DVD. Aside from the bad acting and the fact that it's low budget, it's still very entertaining and has some really creepy scenes. I recommend it to anyone who liked The Exorcist or just likes an old classic horror film. Also, in case you didn't know, the same situation occured with Exorcist: The Beginning and Dominion. They both have the exact same script, almost word for word. Obviously, Exorcist: The Beginning beating it out.

This film was a mixed bag. A bit sloppy, some scenes were very good though. Recommended for horror fanatics who are curious.
