World Wars I and II naval officer William Frederick Halsey Jr. became a highly revered sea captain following his graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy. He went on to serve on such vessels as the U.S.S. Missouri and the U.S.S. Don Juan. As this program reveals, he was eventually placed in command of a number of other ships, including the U.S.S. Benham and the U.S.S. Shaw during World War I. Admiral "Bull" Halsey later chose to become a proficient flyer and headed to the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL, for training. In 1935, he was officially designated a Naval Aviator. This video examines some of the famous stories that surround Halsey's loyal service to his country, including his World War II years when he played a major role in the Pacific campaigns, including a decisive victory at Guadalcanal. ~ Elizabeth Smith
