Birth [DVD] [2004]

Jonathan Glazer's sophomore directorial effort, the measured psychological drama Birth, may have failed to catch on with audiences, but it is a memorable moviegoing experience thanks in large part to the way the director's visual skills were augmented by ace cinematographer Harris Savides. The DVD release of the film offers a pristine anamorphic widescreen transfer that captures as much of their powerful collaboration as could be expected. English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence, but those with a taste for visually rich films should find this disc worthwhile.

Synopsis

Birth
Directed by Jonathan Glazer, Birth takes place in New York's Upper East Side, where Anna (Nicole Kidman), a 35-year-old widow, resides. Just as Anna has shaken off what she thought were the final remnants of her old life -- she has even found love with a new man, Joseph (Danny Huston), whom she plans on marrying -- Sean (Cameron Bright), a ten-year-old boy, comes into her life insisting that he is the reincarnation of her late husband. Though she initially brushes off the boy's claims as the result of a crush on her, his grave demeanor and uncanny knowledge of her life leads Anna through a self-reevaluation that not only threatens her marital plans with Joseph (Huston), but also strains her relationship with her mother, Eleanor (Lauren Bacall). ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi

    Reincarnation

It's about a 10 yr old boy who claims to be her late husband. The movie test your intelligence on the verge of what can you take as fact, and reality. Some of the acting in the film is a bit shoddy, and dry like some one wanted this kid to be put in this movie so badly, lets focus on that. And the fact that Nicole Kidman's character is joined at the hip of this 10 yr old is puzzling to say the least. This is really not her best work as an actress. It just wasn't that believable.

Just don't do it. It is not even worth the time. You could fast forward through the slow time and get the same idea out of the movie in like 10 minutes. I usually give movies a sporting chance, but this is the worst I have ever seen. On the top of my worst movies ever list.
