In 1930s Ukraine, young lovers Yuri (Max Irons) and Natalka (Samantha Barks) struggle to survive a widespread famine known as the Holodomor, which was engineered by the Soviet Union in order to crush Ukrainian nationalism. In time, Yuri's horror over the scale of the tragedy inspires him to fight for Ukraine's independence. Barry Pepper, Tamer Hassan, and Terence Stamp co-star in this historical drama from director George Mendeluk.~Jack Rodgers
I was looking for a war movie and this one looked a little bit different. I knew a little bit about the early years of the Soviet Union and this shows what Stalin did to the Ukrainian people. So this is based on history where possibly up to 10 million people died. This is what happens when the people in charge demand that "everybody must give their fair share". Recently the Russians were at it again with the Ukrainians.
