One, if not, the greatest movie out in 2018. The cast and script are phenomenal and it is very well put together. There are subtle messages throughout the movie, but not overdone. It's very enjoyable and keeps you captivated the entire time. PROS: You put the movie in and it goes straight to the play screen. No extra movie previews that you have to press buttons, or main menu button to get past. On screen the movie looks great. Quality is crisp, colors are vivid. CONS (applies to those who enjoy theatrical quality sound): this is a 4K movie, yet the audio is not 4K. We had to turn it way up to "FEEL" the loud boom and bang effects, as we do naturally with some of our other 4K movies. We thought something was wrong with our setup and started changing settings only to find out that we weren't alone. Apparently, it was mastered that way via a couple tech articles (specifically addressing Black Panthers 4K sound) that we came across. This isn't the first 4K movie we own that does this, but now we understand that it's not something wrong with our premium 4K sound setup. Easy fix, If you have the perfect theatrical sound setup and the notes aren't hitting like you want them to, and your house isn't shaking the shingles off, don't change your settings, just turn up the volume. Guaranteed you'll feel everything. Just remember to turn your volume back down before the next 4K movie. The sound isn't a biggie, but it's for those who enjoy "FEELING" like they're in the movie and not just watching it. Although, that came up for us, we are still giving it 5 stars because the movie is just that good. And the sound is great too once you turn it up, and feel the bass. :)

    One of Marvel’s Best!

Black Panther is Marvel’s new installment in their Phase 3 of the anthology. This movie was really good. It felt more like a comic book/superhero movie than most of the other ones. Every character had great development and had a good purpose. They weren’t some character thrown in that wasn’t strong at all (ex: Darren Cross/Yellowjacket in Ant-Man). I really liked Michael B. Jordan and Andy Serkis as the main antagonists, more Michael though. Andy had a lot of fun with his role and was one of the best parts of the film. Michael did excellent with his part as Erik Killmonger. He had great development and you could see his perspective of things. He wasn’t just a bad guy they were up against, he was another character that you could feel for. I love Letitia Wright as Shuri. She was hilarious and such an interesting character. Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa was amazing. He was perfect for the role. I knew he was going to do great ever since Captain America: Civil War. The score by Ludwig Göransson was really good. The effects in the movie were pretty good, however there were some parts where they looked kind of incomplete. I really liked the cinematography in the movie. There was lots of color to the film, except for a couple scenes where it was hard to see what was going on. For me, parts of the beginning felt just a little slow, buts that’s only because they had to setup. Other than that I thought Black Panther was a movie Marvel needed and a great new face for superhero films. It is my third favorite Marvel movie now (1 being Spider-Man: Homecoming and 2 being Captain America: The Winter Soldier).

    Overhyped, but still pretty good.

There's been a ton of hype for this movie, and while a lot of it is extremely blown out of proportion, "Black Panther" is still a very good movie that's required viewing for anyone keeping up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since this is T'Challa's first solo venture, the vast majority of the movie is dedicated to introducing characters, as well as showing off the primary setting of Wakanda itself. There's a lot of interesting stuff here to build stories around, which I imagine we'll see once a "Black Panther" sequel inevitably comes out. The action's pretty decent for what it is, though it takes a bit of a back seat to character building. Even the titular role that T'Challa takes on isn't in it as much as you'd expect for a superhero flick. This isn't a bad thing, per say, but if you go in expecting it to be all action like the trailer would imply, you might feel a bit disappointed. Still, as I said, this is a pretty good movie, and is enjoyable enough. Plus, if you have yet to see "Avengers: Infinity War", this is practically required viewing before doing so.

Black Panther in my opinion held true to the comic book story most of all and added in a more modern touch by including current issues along with the answer as to why Wakanda has been in the shadows and has ignored the struggles of black people around the world. It has just enough humor and excellent villains which I believe makes the movie that much more better. You actually get to a point where you sympathize with the villain who does give you pause to think for a moment but in the end know that what he strives for is not how you change the world and the ending credit scene helps to wrap things up and gives a sense of satisfaction once it's all said and done. Also, AND THIS NEXT PART MIGHT BE A BIT OF A SPOILER FOR INIFINITY WAR - if you watch the trailer for the new Infinity War movie you see Tony Stark "activate" his armor in a similar way that Black Panther does for his suit which has to be because Wakanda has shared their tech with the world. Can't wait for Shuri to meet Tony for the first time ;)

Black Panther is fun and enjoyable, The character had already appeared in Captain America: Civil War in 2016. The Panther is the king of a fictional African country called Wakanda. He has superpowers and a bulletproof suit. Wakanda is technologically advanced but pretends to be poor and primitive. The Wakandans seem to be at least a century ahead of the rest of humanity, certainly in terms of medical care. But they don’t share their technology or give aid to others. They don’t allow immigration or take in refugees. It is a Wakandan First philosophy. The film revolves around a domestic power struggle for the throne. The Panther’s rival wants to use the country's technology to rule the world. There is a lot of fighting but there is also humor. The Panther is played by Chadwick Boseman who is very likable. It is an enjoyable superhero movie and it has Marvel’s usual high production values. The director, Ryan Coogler, is from Oakland, California which probably explains why that city also makes an appearance.

    A different style of movie

Black Panther feels like it's quite a bit different than your normal MCU film. This movie did a better job of really showing a unique culture in a way that movies taking place in literal space couldn't manage. The movie itself is its own thing in almost every respect. For some people who are going in expecting an average MCU film, they might end up being disappointed. The film itself is propped up by an understandable villain, unique characters, and some good moral questions. It isn't going to bash too hard at the big issues. But it does use them as a base for the setting and conflict. Which is a nice change of pace in my opinion. The only complaint I have is that there wasn't a Bluray DVD combo package. I'm not going to take a star off as that doesn't affect the quality of the movie or features. But it's something that really annoys me.

Really good film, but not remotely 'the best'

This film was good. From start to finish it entertained. Boseman did a fine job as T'Challa, and Jordan was great as Killmonger. The actresses did a good job too, though I thought the general was over-emphasized a bit much. The political messages were not too bad, but subtle (and inaccurate as the African mask was no more 'stolen' than any artifact in museums). However, why this movie is getting the attention that it's 'one of the all-time best' is absurd. That is pure media. It was great, but it's not as good as Civil War, Winter Soldier, Avengers, Iron Man 1 or Thor Ragnarok. Why Thor 3 got lower reviews is beyond me, as it was funnier, more action-packed, and entertaining. Black Panther deserves to be considered in the top 10 Marvel Studios movies, but it's not top 3. Definitely worth seeing, and surely worth owning to add to the Marvel collection. I just don't like when films--particularly for political motives--are exaggerated. Though it's way better than Spider-Man Homecoming...

Greatly entertaining, in top 5 Marvel movies..

What a Marvel movie this has been for the MCU. It definitely is in the top 10 for me. I liked it very much, but I liked Civil War, Winter Soldier, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers 1, Iron Man 1, Avengers Infinity War part 1 better overall. I think all of the characters portrayed in the film did a good job, especially that of the actor who portrays Black Panther himself. Well done casting. Now that Infinity War has taken the number 1 spot of all time openings for a movie, Black Panther will certainly still be in the top10 All Time list for movies. I don't think the political overtones in this one was too far over the line, but they were there. My problem with the movie itself is how did all this technology they possess come from a rock? That seems a bit far stretched. Just my thoughts. Having seen Infinity War, part 1 and awaiting ANT MAN and WASP, it's a good thing here to release Black Panther during this time. Kudos!
