Dark, punishing, brutal and horrifying this game is the pinnacle of what Metroidvania platformer souls-likes should aim to be. A lovely game that pays respects to Fromsoftware's Souls franchise. Buy it and thank me later when you shake your fist at the screen in defeat after defeat.

An excellent Metroidvania with a disturbing aesthetic based on religious themes of penitence and suffering for sins. The imagery is not for the faint of heart and the game is filled with intense action and over-the-top gore. There are some limited RPG elements but everything is easy to understand and the focus is most certainly on swordplay. Many reviews have called this a 2D souls-like, and at first that description seems spot on but as you progress and find shrines that power up your sword and rosary beads that enhance your character, enemies become easier to deal with. Incredible boss fights and secrets abound in this game that controls really well and offers a tough but fair difficulty level. I love the 16bit look of this game and beat the main game within a week of purchase. The developer, The Game Kitchen, has already released free DLC so you’re getting a little extra from your purchase right out of the box. I give this game… 9 pointy helmets out of 10
