Blue Jasmine made me think of Tennessee William's "A Street Car Named Desire" lifted from the South and dropped down in New York. I have been a long-time fan of Cate Blanchett who won a Best Actress Oscar for this film. In this movie she is forced to tear away pretenses and end up mumbling on a New York park bench. This is a story about loss of money, glamour, and illusions resulting in a detailed analysis of a life being torn apart. Looking like a play while being written by Woody Allen, this is a drama centering on one character receiving a severe beating by life. Definitely appealed to the serious side of me but also is not for everyone.

Sorry, Allen fans, critics, and Academy voters, but I hate what I've seen of this film so far. Half an hour in, I gave up on it. Overall, the acting is very good indeed - but who cares when there's not a single likeable character in the story and, in fact, every character, while they may be TRUE-TO-LIFE, is annoying to the point of unwatchability. Who knows? Perhaps if I could make it to the thirty-first or thirty-second minute, I'd find that it begins to change into a more likeable story with more likeable characters. But, I'm afraid, I don't believe it's worth the trip.

Blue Jasmine as a movie is a pleasant surprise -a movie for the current economic times where being rich can quickly turn to disaster. The cast in Blue Jasmine is perfect....slick Baldwin as a corrupt business man who also cheats on his wife to the beautiful-witty wife -Cate Blanchett caught in the middle. The going backwards to New York/Hamptons - vs current life in San Francisco matches up 2 great parts of America. Blue Jasmine is a go see movie over and over again.

Blue Jasmine won best picture at the Academy Awards. The movie has a lot to offer in that it captures your attention and holds it. The characters portrayed their roles in good form and the plot was quite refreshing. Furthermore, I found it to funny, exciting and entertaining, also charming in the way it depicted the upside of how life can work out for the best when dared to be lived at it's fullest.

This is a typical Woody Allen in that the story is secondary to the characters. You have to watch without distractions to follow the story because it jumps around from past to present a fair bit. It is well done for what it is but is definitely not your typical mindless entertainment and if you aren't fully engaged the movie won't be very satisfying.

One of Woody Allen's better movies. If you like his last few you will probably enjoy Blue Jasmine. Cate Blanchett gives an amazing performance and Andrew Dice Clay surprises. Even though his role was not primary, he was integral to the story and did a great job as the character.

Blue Jasmine is an outstanding homage to the 1947 Pulitzer prize winning play, "A Streetcar Named Desire" by Tennessee Williams. Allen pulls from our recent history (Bernie Madoff et. al.) and crafts a chillingly plausible retelling of this classic story.

What a poignant film! Woody Allen has a real genius at putting actors into roles where they shine. He casts actors that seemingly are out of place "together" but when the action is called bring a brilliance to his words no one can deny as pure genius.
