    I have clean dishes again!!!

First I have to mention that I absolutely HATE shopping for appliances, but Best Buy makes it a LOT easier with all of the information they have available online. I researched the heck out of the new dishwashers on this site, and knew I wanted one that had a reliable track record - I also did not want to spend more than $700.on a new one (crazy!). Other must-haves were delay-start, tall tub design, no "tower" in the center, adjustable upper rack, and a filter I could clean without having to disassemble the unit (like my old GE had). This dishwasher and my 2nd choice had them all, so I went to the store to see them in person to compare. Both were very similar, but after reading the reviews, and seeing the high number of negatives on the Samsung, I ordered the Bosch Ascenta instead. It arrived an hour earlier than my scheduled time, which was fantastic. My husband and I installed it ourselves, and instructions were fairly clear, but this wasn't our first rodeo. If you've never installed one before, pay close attention to the directions regarding wiring and hooking up the hoses, especially the water line. If you're not used to dealing with any of that, pay the extra $$ to have them install it & save yourself the time and aggravation. Once installed, we attempted to load it. This is where having a new dishwasher really sort of sucks. After loading my GE for 12 years & knowing where everything went, the Bosch is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. I found myself referring to the owner's manual for loading instructions, which helped a lot. About the only thing I have an actual "complaint" about is the fact that there really isn't room allotted on the upper rack for large utensils (knives, slotted spoons, etc.) - the best spot is along the outside of the top rack, but be aware you are sacrificing room for glassware this way. The tines are too close together on a couple of rows also, so it makes loading deeper bowls a little difficult, but with a little practice it's getting easier. I will say that the interior of the Bosch is noticeably smaller than my GE was - I find I am unable to load as many dishes as I could with the GE, but now that our kids are grown & moved out, it's not as much of an issue for us. If you have a large family still at home, it may very well be an issue for you - if that is the case, then be sure you go and see the appliance in person before ordering it online. The difference appears to be in the depth of the racks. Once the dishes were loaded I ran the Normal cycle. It did seem to take a LONG TIME to complete, but you couldn't hear it running - not even the water running into the unit like our old one! We have an open concept kitchen/familyroom/diningroom, so the silence is much appreciated. I had some dishes that were pretty crusty and gross- I wanted to "test" the dishwasher, and it passed with flying colors. For the next load, I rinsed them really well (as always) and used the Express Wash cycle - it is done in about 45 minutes, which is great. Again - dishes were spotless. The only thing I really do NOT like about this dishwasher is the annoying end-of-cycle beeping. It beeps 3 or 4 times, then waits about 5-10 minutes and does it again...and does not stop until you physically open and shut the door. It's not something that I would consider returning the unit over, but Bosch, if you are reading these...take the hint. Due to this being an Energy Star unit, the dishes are not dry when the cycle first completes. I usually run ours at night, open & close the door when it's done, then let them sit until morning - they're dry by then. Not having a slide-lock for the door might be problematic if you have small children in the house that don't listen to you, but the door doesn't open very easily either - you really have to give it a "tug". I guess this is where teaching your children not to play with appliances comes in. Bottomline: If you like sparkling clean dishes and want/need a super quiet dishwasher, then this is the model to get. Yes, I would purchase it again, and yes, i would recommend it to my friends.

Needed to replace a nearly 10 year old Maytag that should have been replaced two years ago. Old Maytag was loud with rack wheels that constantly broke(I reassembled those wheels with my own nuts, bolts and Super Glue more times than I can count), adjustable tines that broke, rusted and had to be wired together to use and a flatware basket that fell apart. It was the Frankenstein of dishwashers. So needless to say, the bar wasn't set very high for a replacement. After reading and researching the various brands and models, we settled on this one because of the combination of positive reviews and price. Best Buy had it in stock, for the lowest price and the quickest delivery time. I purchased it online, along with the installation kit, on a Friday and it was delivered at 7:30 a.m. Monday. The delivery guys were fantastic, completely unpacking the dishwasher, carrying it in and placing it right in the kitchen in front of the opening ( I disconnected and removed the old one and put it out in the driveway the night before ) and hauling away the old unit ( not before I gave it a ceremonial swift kick to send it away to Appliance Purgatory ). They were so professional I slid them enough of a tip to cover coffees for each guy. I'm fairly handy and comfortable with appliances so I decided to handle the installation myself. But the truth is if you can operate a screwdriver, wrench, pliers, wire pliers and can follow directions, you can handle installing it yourself. I would recommend buying the installation kit, because it comes with a few different water inlet brass elbow connectors and plug adapter, which you will need, depending on your plumbing and electrical configurations. The washer did come with the drain hose and clamps, which I used, but saved some of the hardware from the old connection, just in case. In my case, I used the solid brass elbow to connect the pressure fitting on the hot water inlet, and I hard wired it directly, no plug. Leveling was pretty simple, as the three adjustable feet are easy to manipulate. The only thing I would highly recommend, that the directions don't mention, is regarding the brass elbow at the water inlet. After getting the unit installed, I turned on the power and water to it. I gave it a run on the express wash setting. I had not yet attached the front kick plate so that I would be able to see everything underneath as it ran. At the brass elbow, there was a small leak where it threaded into the water inlet. I shut it down, turned off the power and water and took off the water line and elbow. I cleaned off the threads, reapplied Teflon tape and put it back together. Same leak from the same spot. I took it off again and applied Pipe Dope to the threads, re-taped and put it back together again. Voila! No more leak. I ran it a couple of times throughout the day and all was dry. I left the kick plate off until the next morning. All was still nice and dry with no drips, so I screwed in the kick plate to finish the installation completely. As far as performance and noise level, we couldn't be happier with this dishwasher. Bosch does recommend the use of Rinse-Aid (which we used anyway) in running all cycles. We're still experimenting with loading schemes, but I think it's actually got more room inside than the old one. It doesn't look bigger on the inside, but I think that Bosch makes optimum use of the space with the rack configuration. As far as noise, I really only hear it when it's draining, which is nice because the old Maytag was so loud it would drown out the TV in the living room. Overall I'm impressed and happy with this dishwasher and recommend it if you're looking for a nice balance of performance and value.

    Very disappointed

    • My Best Buy® MemberMember

This is the first appliance I purchased online without looking at it first. I read the Consumer Report reviews and customer reviews. This unit was ranked high by consumer reports and for the most part by Best Buy customers. I accepted delivery and installed the unit. I was not impressed with the quality of the basic construction. The trays roll out awkwardly and do not seem to be that sturdy. The unit seemed to be quite fragile. I was disappointed after I installed the unit and ran it for the first time. It is much noisier than the Samsung unit I replaced that was 3 years old. The noise part I can live with though as long as the unit works well and cleans the dishes. I started to load the unit for the first time on the day I installed it and came across a major problem. I loaded standard dinner dishes , 11" diameter in the bottom rack. I quickly realized that the upper rack's spray arm hits the dinner dishes and will not rotate. This caused the unit to stop working with no error code. Now, I have been loading dishwashers for 20 years and I have always placed the dinner dishes vertical in the tines. The Bosch user guide even shows that they are to be loaded vertical. It doesn't work if you do. I couldn't believe this. I thought I must be missing something. I called Bosch customer service and spoke to a person named Chuck. I politely explained my issue and was quickly addressed in a rude and condescending way. I really hope nobody will have to rely on this guy's assistance for a pleasant experience. I explained the problem and he told me that if the dishes didn't fit than there was nothing he could do. " I can't magically make them fit sir, that is impossible for me to do". I can't believe the response. I asked if there was someone else there that might be sympathetic to my issue and I was told that no one can make the dishes fit if they are to tall. He wasn't listening and didn't care. He was out right rude. After this I decided that I wanted the unit out of my home. I called Best Buy and they were very nice and told me that I would have to visit the store and arrange for the unit to be picked up and hopefully make another purchase to replace the unit. No problem here, will do this over the weekend. The instructions show full size dinner dishes set vertical as I have always loaded in the past. My wife experimented and has laid the dishes at a 45 degree angle in the rack. This eliminates the problem of the spray harm hitting the dishes but eats up a lot of room. We will see if this works and if not, returning to Best Buy. They will make the purchase right I am sure.

    An excellent dishwasher

    • My Best Buy® MemberMember

This is a fantastic dishwasher that I have been using for about a month now! The dishwasher has nice, adjustable rack organization that makes it easy to fit all of my family's various dishes, glasses, bowls, plates, etc. As long as you follow the instructions in the manual, this dishwasher will easily produce clean, dry dishes every time (make sure to use the 'sanitize' option on the machine as well as use rinse-aid liquid). Also, you should make sure your hot water is hot enough (recommended temperature is in the manual as well), as the hot water is a critical part of what makes this dishwasher clean so well and so efficiently. I'll admit I'm lucky in this regard as I just got a new water heater in the house that always has plenty of hot water to spare. I guess if there are only complaints to make, it's that there have been a couple of times when there was some water still left in small crevices of one or two glasses, but otherwise the drying has been excellent. Oh, and I thought there was a defect with the dishwasher when I first started using it because one of the electrical wires overheated and melted the control box, but after having a service technician look it over (free, covered under Bosch warranty), it turns out that when I installed it, I didn't make a good, secure connection between the electrical wires and the screws (my fault). And they still didn't charge me for it, which was wonderful. By the way, Bosch had excellent customer service when I called during installation, and they were quick to answer my question about some if the installation instructions that were not so clear. When I called for help with the overheated wires, I could either wait two weeks for a Bosch technician to come look, or I could call their one of third-party 'Bosch-approved' repair service companies, who were able to schedule me in quicker and give me awesome service.

Quiet, but missing a few things.

    • My Best Buy® MemberMember

This is my second Bosch; I've had it for 6 months. The first one broke down shortly after the warranty expired, and the repair was too expensive, but I had liked it enough to replace it with another Bosch. I did not have time to shop around so I went with this one as it was a Consumer Reports' best buy. Pros: it is very quiet, looks attractive, and does a great job of cleaning and drying the dishes. The top rack is adjustable, there is no exposed heating element, and is easy to load. It's reasonably priced. Cons: unless the washer is in a cycle where you can hear the water moving inside, it is difficult or impossible to tell if it is running without opening it. There is no display, only a few LEDs which are not visible unless the door is open. To start it you have to push a button and close the door within four seconds, but it doesn't always start right away which makes you wonder if you closed it in time. There is no display indicating how much time is left in the cycle, even if you do open the door. My old Bosch shined a light on the floor while it was an operation which was a great feature, but sadly this one does not have that. It seems like this is a very simple thing to add - not sure why Bosch chose to remove it! Once the cycle is completed and you open the door, there is a "clean" LED that comes on, but it is only lit that first time you open it, which can cause confusion if you live in a household with multiple people who open the dishwasher but do not unload it right away. Finally, the machine is preprogrammed to beep at the end of the cycle, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a quiet dishwasher. The operating instructions did not say how to turn this off; I had to call customer service to find out how to do this. I wouldn't say I am dissatisfied with this dishwasher because it is quiet and cleans well at an affordable price, but I would not buy this particular model again.

Excellent performance, but verify the model number

    • Verified PurchaserVerified Purchase

Our old dishwasher was going out. I had already replaced both motors and decided it was time to get a new one. My wife and I researched options for a few weeks and decided this time we would go above the $500 price range, but not over $900. We read many reviews, settled on the needs vs. wants. Then subscribed to Good Housekeeping for 1 month to read the reviews of the "finalists" we had chosen. This was the winner in our book. It tells you in the manual not to pre-wash the dishes. We've had it for a month and have not pre-washed a thing. I have deliberately fed it cooked on egg, dried waffle batter, greasy pans, and dried red sauce with no problem. It's not a miracle worker, so we've had to put one or two dishes back through, but it really does an amazing job. So much time savings, so quiet, and the adjustable rack really comes in handy. When purchasing, you have to specify the model number. Why? There are two versions of this exact product at the same price. One is stocked everywhere, and lowes even has a specific product number (making it hard to compare products). That's not the one you want, Good Housekeeping Tested it and it scored 20% lower than this one. You want this one(SHX3AR75UC), and yes, you'll want to wait for them to order it. They'll try to push you to buy the one they have in stock. We purchased at Best Buy because it was the only place in a reasonable driving range that had it in their warehouse.

The Bosch Integra Ascenta is as quiet as advertised. The hidden control panel is a nice feature as well. The beeping people allude to/are annoyed by in other reviews is a by-product of just how quiet it is: Unless you stand next to the dishwasher while it moves through its entire cycle, there are only 2-3 times during its cycle that you would know it is on. The beeps at once it finished are not that hard to deal with - open the dishwasher door and close it. End of beeps. End of story. You should rank three specific shortcomings of this dishwasher against your needs: 1) In order to outfit the Bosch with all the noise dampening it has, the interior of the dishwasher is much smaller. So be prepared to use it more often. This may be a big deal if you have a large family. My last dishwasher (Whirlpool) made more noise but held far more plates and glasses. The Bosch also has a hard time accommodating large frying pans and cooking sheets. 2) In today's age of Energy Star appliances, they take away something in order to make it energy efficient. In this case it is the food grinder feature. You must clean your plates and glasses entirely before putting them into the dishwasher. Other reviews complain the Bosch didn't remove the food from their plates, but if they had read the manual - and they mention it in the manual - there is say something about this. The last point is nitpicky: 3) You will go through rinse aid more than you used to. At least I did. Again, with my Whirpool this wasn't happening. Truthfully it is not much of a big deal. But you will be ponying up a few more dollars every month at the grocery store. If you can live with these Bosch specific features, this is the dishwasher for you. Just do your research to avoid any surprises.

    Love this dishwasher!

I LOVE THIS DISHWASHER! Seriously, I want everyone I know to buy it. We had a brand new Samsung that broke 3 times in 15 months. So we decided to stop paying $200 every 5 months to fix it (not to mention being out a dishwasher for 2 weeks while they order the part) and just replaced it with this one. It IS smaller than our last one, but it doesn't really bother me since it cleans SO well. It gets everything, and I do mean everything off my dishes. And I am not one of those people that cleans my dishes before I put them in. I believe that defeats the purpose of having a dishwasher if I'm going to wash them first. I can wash pots and pans and cookie sheets in here too. I love that I can change the height of the top rack too, which I could do on my last one but it's easier to do on this one. The silverware rack is a little small, but I think they put the different heights in the slots so the silverware pieces wouldn't stick together. It helps them get cleaner. It's super quiet. It has the removable filter but I have yet to have to clean it out. I love the cycle options (esp the half load one). It doesn't get my dishes totally dry when it's done, although my other one didn't either so I was used to that. And I live in a dry climate so it never takes my dishes long to dry anyway.
