Bose quality that you come to know and love!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased on sale $50 off MSRP during the Holidays. Was looking to upgrade my computer speakers and did it by leaps and bounds with the Bose Companion 5 system. Easy hookup and great instructions. Had a problem with sound cutting off when I switched between apps like iTunes and EyeTV. The unit was connected to a USB hub, and the hub to my iMac. After some exploring and reading online comments, I connected the Bose unit directly to my computer and the problem ceased to exist. Excellent sound! Sleek look with speakers sitting aside my 27" iMac! I've got an entire AWESOME entertainment center sitting right on my desk!

Great computer speakers
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These speakers met my expectations and more. The sound quality is nice and super clear. No distortion no matter how loud you turn it and they get extremely loud. Easy to install. They look really nice and they're not too big either. Nice and heavy speakers not cheaply made. The only flaw is not being able to turn up and down the bass without reaching behind the subwoofer but for me it's not that big of a deal but for some it may be.

Great expensive sound
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although subjective, the sound that this unit produces is amazing. Was pleasantly surprised after reading a few reviews that said this produces a lot of bass. But no review mentioned the knob that adjusts it at the back of the subwoofer. So definitely a big plus when I need more or less bass. I would love for the unit to be cheaper, but I can’t complain about the sound.

Totally awesome speakers!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I always knew Bose was a good product and I had previously own a pair of video speakers and another Bose speaker that my original iPod plugged into. I recently bought the Bose - Companion 5 Multimedia Speaker System and although they are somewhat expensive, it was absolutely worth every penny. The first thing I tried was playing the Interstellar soundtrack by Hans Zimmer from iTunes and it sounded absolutely incredible even at very high volume. My music sounds "crisp". The "touch" mute is a little sensitive. If I'm moving the control pod, sometimes I accidentally mute it. It was very easy to setup. Just plug in the USB cable to your computer and the drivers are automatically installed. My system is running Microsoft Windows 8.1. The control pod has a jack for headphones for private listening. It also has a 3.5mm input jack for other sound sources. I highly recommend these speakers. You just can't go wrong with these.

Q: QuestionCan you connect these to a sound card?I have a very nice sound card that I want to use if I buy these speakers. BUT, it does NOT have a USB port on the card. Can I get some kind of adapter so I can use these with my sound card?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer The Companion 5 system is specifically designed to bypass the sound card on your computer in order to produce more direct digital sound from your movies and games. When plugging in by USB, the Companion 5 essentially takes over and becomes the sound card for the computer. If you specifically want to connect it to an output from your sound-card, there is an analog 3.5mm aux input located on the volume control for this system which could be used. We do not recommend this setup as the USB digital interface, and the resulting quality, is a large part of what you are paying for on this system. Other Bose computer speaker systems such as our Companion 2 or Companion 20 speakers are designed to work with your computer’s sound card.

Q: QuestionHow can I get the best sound from companion5 if I connect it with TVI'm thinking about connect it with the LCD TV. So far I have 2 options which are 1) use the 3.5mm. cable on both side and connect to the headphone jack(back of the TV) 2) use the cable that has 3.5mm. and white, red jack to connect with the output at the back of TV. Which one is the better choice? And will i able to get the 5.1 surround sound with these methods? If not, could you please let me know how can I get it. Should I buy any converter? Thanks

- A:Answer Thank you for your question. The Companion 5 Multimedia Speaker System is designed for use with a computer connected via USB. When connected to a computer with a USB connection, the system can decode stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1 signals. To connect a different type of device, such as a TV, you would need to use the 3.5mm auxiliary audio input on the volume control pod. This is a stereo analog input and will not provide a Dolby Digital 5.1 signal. Either the RCA audio output on the back of your TV or the headphone output will work just fine when connected to the AUX input on the Companion 5.

Q: QuestionIf I connect Companion 5 to the USB port, can I at the same time use a microphone for voice commands by connecting it to the PC's frontpanel socket?I would very much appreciate if any one can clarify if I can use a microphone for voice recognition (in games) simultaneously when using Bose Companion 5 connected to USB port, by connecting it to the microphone socket on the computer front panel which in turn is connected to the built in audio on the motherboard(without a sound card) . I would be using Windows 7. Thanks.

- A:Answer Thanks for your question. A Recording device can be set independently of the Playback device within the Windows 7 Control Panel. If you open the Control Panel and select “Sound,” you’ll find two tabs; Playback, which should be set to “Bose USB Audio” and Recording, which can be set to the input of your choice. We hope this helps!

Q: QuestionCan you finagle a way to make a Bose Companion 5 Multimedia Speaker System a surround sound system?I have my computer hooked up to my television and the sound goes through my computer so I ended up buying a Bose Companion 5 Multimedia Speaker System today and I'm wondering if there's a way to make it from a 2 speaker and subwoofer system to around a 4 or 5 speaker and subwoofer system
Asked by You're A Prag (watch hbo oz to understand).
- A:Answer While the Companion 5 is designed to create a Full 5.1 effect from two speakers and a sub, and does so remarkably when you are close to the system... I have found that there is no feasible way to "bridge" additional components with it. I have sought the answer to this very question myself, and after extensive research have found... The computer makes the Companion 5 the "Primary/Default" sound, and therefore overrides anything further. Adding auxiliary speakers from any device via 3.5mm jack has not worked either. I hope that this helps.

Q: QuestionCan I plug/play an iPod from an audio jack?I would like to use this as a computer speaker system, but I was wondering if the system could plug into an iPod audio jack to play straight from the device?
Asked by Josh.
- A:Answer There is an AUX input on the Companion 5’s control pod next to the headphone jack. You can connect an iPod or any other device with a headphone output to this input. Thanks!

Q: QuestionWill this work with a TV?i am going to buy a new tv, and am wondering if this will work with it so that I can also use them with my computer. thanks
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Thanks for the question. The Companion 5 Multimedia Speaker System can be connected to an auxiliary device, such as your television, using the 3.5mm AUX input located on the control pod. As long as you television has a headphone jack or an analog audio out, then this should be able to work.
