Well, I may not be a multi-million-dollar audiophile, but I do consider myself, still, an audiophile. I've had this speaker for about 5 days now, and I must say, this thing is the full package. The separation, clarity, punch, and imaging of this speaker are all just so crisp and impressive to the air. I am coming from the Definitive Technology C/L/R 2000 - which, although impressive - I was ready to move to the living room and, therefore, I was looking for an upgrade for my media room. With that said - I can give a quick comparison between the two. This BnW wins in EVERY respect, even matched with Definitive Technology speakers as the Left and Right channels. The bass from the CLR can obviously be much deeper and boomier considering that it is powered... But when tuned properly - to match your other speakers - you find that sweet spot for its bass output, and, once found, you'll realize it's almost never near max settings. With that said - the BnW has much more impact and presence at most volumes. It's likely due to its 6 1/2 inch drivers - but it doesn't stop there. The bass' roll off and crispness just seems so much more upscale and "correct." The three way design gives such amazing separation. The crossovers are done perfectly. As a center, this product brings everything together so magically that I was quite shocked at first considering I'd thought I was using an amazing center, already. I can't stress it, enough. Everything seems sharpened and refined after this purchase. I will say, though, that yes, it is very bulky. I am currently using an entertainment center that allows me to mount my 55" to the vertical brace attached to it - with a sheld roughly 8-9 inches underneath the bottom of the TV. The center channel doesn't fit! I have to put the speaker in front of the TV rather than having it niched inbetween the two. But, only an inconvenience. They are 6 1/2 inch drivers coupled to a midrange driver, after all. With all that has been said - in summary, I can't wait for the break in period to be over and to be able to finally fully appreciate the abilities of this product. I will soon be matching a pair of BnW ceiling speakers as my second pair of fronts. May sound awkward, but I'll have 2 floor standing speakers from DefTech matched to the center, and ceiling speakers - with rears, as well. But let me tell you - I know BnW is my choice for the ceiling. Should sound stellar in stereo for music and give an amazing opened, realistic setting for games/movies. Can't Wait!! Thanks for the read!

This was a vast upgrade for my system and matches nicely with my earlier generation 683s. Much clearer than the first two versions of the HTM61/B and conceptually more sound. Ability to Bi-Amp interesting, though mostly unused for many, I'd imagine. Only draw to this is the size. While this could easily handle even a plasma on top of it, because of the height, you will have to adjust the way you've been watching if you do so -- not recommended anyway. Or you have to get the "right" tv stand setup so you can maintain things. I'd be afraid to mount this above as this is MASSIVE (please look at dimensions before buying without seeing it in-store). So you really have to plan out your space. This isn't a FPM-style unit that you tuck in the wall (which, btw, doesn't match very well with the 6 series), so you will have a block that looks like half a 683/684 on its side. But when you look at what speakers and at what size, you'll easily understand the size. This is the no-compromise way of getting you a good center. Those with space concerns should go down to the HTM62 and learn to live with less -- or get a single 685 as some have (but looks odd). And if you ever start to upgrade along the B&W lines, you'll note how large the centers can be. That said, the clarity of sound is great. And I would highly recommend even for those who are SACD multichannel fans. Really gives the 6 series the center channel it deserves, regardless of which generation you have. Would be a 5 star if they magically found a way to make this same quality product smaller and cheaper.

My appreciation for B&W started with an open box sub I purchased a couple years ago. Once I realized what real sound was, it was time to start replacing my system one piece at a time. I did listen to other centers, but the full range on this speaker spoke to me. It's large, and did fit in my cabinet, but it sounds better when used as a base for my TV. It's so large that my TV sits on top of it and the footprint of the TV stand is the same size as the speaker. I cannot speak highly enough about this center. Do take the time to listen to it in store, and REALLY let it break in before expecting the true potential to come out. Day one it was a little flat and my review would have been different. We had family over for Christmas and I put a Frank Sinatra record on. Everyone paused for a second... then grandma says "it sounds like he is in the room". It's an emotional moment when your soundstage comes to life. Don't go cheap on your center.... my only regret is not saving longer to step up to the 700 series. Same size, better speakers.

I had the previous model and found the dialogue muddy sounding so I returned it. I used a 685 bookshelf for the center channel until the new model 685 S2 was available with the new tweeter technology and other improvements. purchased the 685 S2 and was real happy with the sound so I also bought the HTM61 S2, that's the sound I was expecting from the previous model 61 that I returned. Crisp articulate clean sound. Play it full range or cross it over at 60HZ-80HZ. Plays loud and clean, very happy with my purchase.

I first purchased the HTM62. I was impressed very much until the tweeter went bad. Best Buy replaced it. Again the tweeter went bad, so Kyle at the West Bloomfield store suggested that I up grade to the HTM61. WOW, what a difference. I.also own a pair of Bowers & Wilkins tower(column) speaker from Best Buy.. So far I Absolutely LOVE IT!!! Thanks Kyle @ Best Buy

I upgraded from the smaller HTM62 S2. While HTM62 sounds good, I always felt like it was muddy, almost like a veil was laying in front of the speaker. The HTM61 S2 is a pretty significant upgrade. Everything is clear and precise, very accurate. I highly recommend this center channel no mater which 600 series B&W speakers you pair it with.

I have the 683s2 towers paired with this. First up, it is a HUGE centerspeaker, so please take note of the dimensions. Otherwise, with this size comes amazing quality and rounds out the s2s better than the original paired center speaker model. I have no question or qualms in recommending this if it is in your budget (and space!)

This speaker delivers as I would expect from Bowers and Wilkins. Crisp clear highs with deep low end bass without distortion. The speaker comes alive after several hours of initial use. It sounded phenomenal out of the box and continues to amaze me. The speaker is quite heavy, so be sure to have a sturdy TV stand.
