Synopsis

Bram Stoker's Dracula
Based on Bram Stoker's classic 1897 novel, this film from Francis Ford Coppola and screenwriter James Victor Hart offers a full-blooded portrait of the immortal Transylvanian vampire. The major departure from Stoker is one of motivation as Count Dracula (Gary Oldman) is motivated more by romance than by bloodlust. He punctures the necks as a means of avenging the death of his wife in the 15th century, and when he comes to London, it is specifically to meet heroine Mina Harker (Winona Ryder), the living image of his late wife (Ryder plays a dual role, as do several of her costars). Anthony Hopkins is obsessed vampire hunter Van Helsing, while Keanu Reeves takes on the role of Jonathan Harker, and Tom Waits plays bug-eating Renfield. Bram Stoker's Dracula was the winner of three Academy Awards. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

I'm just going too "bite" right into this review by saying if you are a fan of Vampire movies, this is a must have for your Blu Ray collection! Francis Ford Coppola, Director, just simply out done himself with Bram Stoker's Dracula, which is a straight up classic! This movie was directed and produce with an all star cast which played their roles with impeccable genius. Trust me when I say, you figuratively get "sucked" into this brilliantly produced movie and may I suggest that you watch it during the dead of the night on a big screen with a top end home theater system. This movie is not for faint of heart, although it does hinge on the basis that true love never dies. Great special effects and a great buy which included a digital hd too transfer to your mobile device. Another great buy at Best Buy!

This is a most eclectic and eccentric retelling of the Bram Stoker tale of Vlad the Impaler, better known as Dracula, If your taste in vampires is more Frank Langella than Nosferatu then this film may not be for you. However, if so, you are missing a most inventive and fun romp through Transylvania and Edwardian London with a cast of eclectic actors giving excellent performances. Some might find it all a bit over the top, but that's actually part of the fun, as are the art direction and production design. This is a feast for the eyes, So sink in your eyetooth and enjoy the sweet taste of full blooded filmmaking. The Blu-ray boosts excellent video and audio quality with several "extras" so no complaints there. So pop up some corn, sprinkle it liberally with garlic salt, and enjoy.

    Love this Film

This film is amazing. It would be perfect except for the casting of Keanu Reeves that the studio forced upon Coppola. This transfer is better than the last blu-ray edition by far with more correct colors and contrast (the first blu-ray release of this had overly muted colors and was much, much too dark). The only negative, other than Keanu, is that the transfer is framed incorrectly. Everything is framed too low and to the left it seems. The original, darker blu-ray had the correct framing. I guess they just can't get this film completely right on blu-ray.

Most people expected this to be a horror movie. I remember those fans being disappointed when this movie first came out. Those that were expecting it to follow the novel may have also been disappointed by the changes and additions. I thought that the changes and additions worked for the movie it was trying to be. The eerie effects were creatively and masterfully done to add to the ambiance of the film. A story of love betrayal and redemption. The picture quality in this remaster is definitely an improvement over the original release.

Francis Ford Coppola directed his version of Bram Stokers Dracula over 20 (!) years ago and this great new blu-ray presents the film is a new light with spectacular video and audio and a host of extras presided over by Coppola himself including a new introduction by the man. If Keanu Reeves wasn't in the film I would say it's virtually flawless but alas his performance still stinks. However Gary Oldman is so good as Count Dracula it really doesn't matter how good or bad the supporting cast is.

A Great Adaptation (WIth Only One Flaw)

In 1992, we got this great adaptation, twisted with great performances from its cast. Gary Oldman shines here in one of his earlier and greater roles, going from scorned ancient creature to charming and mesmerizing gentleman. The special effects are a bit dated, but it is a minor thing. A lot of the movie does well for itself with its presentation in 4K, with great extras and a digital copy. The only flaw falls to Keanu Reeves pulling off an accent. It was a bit comical, but the worst of a great movie.

already collect dvd and first blue ray for this movie. The reason of buy new version - need to compare old and new for my better collection. First . compare the picture ( better than other version ) Second . compare the sound ( much better than first issued blue ray ) Third . compare the additional features ( very good - get most original + some ). Finally this version is really good to me, and the price better than Supreme Cinema Series.

Excellent movie. Part horror, drama, romance. Filmed with old fashioned camera tricks. This is one of the best embodiments of Dracula. Gary Oldman is amazing. The new 4k master easily outclasses the previous bluray in every way. I can't say how the new Atmos track sounds, as I am not equipped for that, but the 7.1 track is excellent and atmospheric. This is the definitive version of Bram Stoker's Dracula.
