The Next Big Rock Band
Posted .Every so often a musical group emerges that breaks the boundaries of its musical genre, inspires people with its words, and constantly redefines itself. For someone from the West, this is a statement that appears to be self-evident. When you come from Russia, born into a Soviet culture of artistic and cultural oppression, the concepts of change and redefinition are not only seldom encountered, but for those who dare to challenge the state of things, they were once fatal concepts. When the SLoT formed on 2-2-2002, they sought to do precisely that: shatter the norms of Russian music and introduce a Western sound to Russia. They have reached the ceiling of their potential in their homeland. As the top alternative-rock / nu-metal act in all of the former Soviet Union, they have realized that the only way to truly share their music--their art--with the greater world abroad is to take the leap that only two artists from Russia (Gorky Park & t.A.T.u.) have ever achieved: they must sing in English, and do it better than any of their countrymen who have come before them. The SLoT have received numerous industry awards including the Russian Alternative Music Prize awards for Hit of the Year in both 2006 (2 Wars) and 2007 (They Killed Kenny), Vocal Performance of the Year in 2005, and NewsMusic.ru's 2007 Rock Album of the Year Award. Their music has appeared on the score and/or soundtrack of nearly a dozen major Russian movies including such international hits as “Daywatch”, “Nightwatch”, and "Boomer." On October 3rd, 2010 they performed with Limp Bizkit at Moscow’s Olympic Arena, and previously with KORN on their Russian tour in 2006 where front man Jonathan Davis said, “here is the Russian hybrid of Linkin Park and Evanescence”. The UCLA international music press said they are at “the forefront of their genre”. (www.farfrommoscow.com/articles/slot.html) Having received over 6 million hits on YouTube, the SLoT are far from unknown in the Western world. They currently have four official music videos in English, "Mirrors," "Lego," "Alone" and “Kill Me Baby One More Time.” 2011 will be the breakthrough year for the SLoT around the world. In January, their first worldwide single "Lego" was placed in heavy rotation on Holland's KinkFM, has received daily airplay on Holland's largest radio station 3FM, was debuted on 95.7FM the Rock in La Crosse, Wisconsin--the first time that any Russian rock band has received airplay on a major market U.S. radio station since 1987. In March of 2011, "Lego" was also put into rotation on Lithuania's biggest rock station, Classic Rock 94.9FM. On February 5th they performed their first ever European concert along with Bagga Bownz in the Hague. Their new YouTube channel, theSLoTmusic received over 1,700 subscribers in its first 8 months, and nearly 400,000 total video views. Japan's RB Records released the SLoT's Russian language "The Best Of..." compilation on May 11th, 2011 under exclusive license from M2BA and within 24 hours it sold out on Amazon Japan. On August 23rd, 2011 Neurodisc/Fontana/Universal releases their debut international CD in English, "Break the Code" which will feature 15 of their best tracks converted into English from their first four Russian CD releases, their “The Best Of...” CD and a new single, “Kill Me Baby One More Time” as well as 16th track--a remix of “Mirrors” entitled “Broken Mirror” by the American electro-pop group “Blue Stone.” Their first English release in April of 2010, the "Mirrors" EP, was recently named the third best metal release of 2010 by the editors of SonicCathedral.com where the SLoT’s recent interview has received more hits than any other artist in the last 2 years. The SLoT is the #1 priority artist for their Russian label, M2BA, as well as their North American label, Neurodisc Records.
