Take an out of the ordinary mixture of clockwork mechanisms, wire, thread, and 19th century knick-knacks set to life in a series of set pieces and come up with the dream-like visions of the brothers Quay. Using a thin area for the focal point -- to make certain items seem out of focus -- gives their work a dream-like appearance. One of the pieces in this collection is The Cabinet of Jan Svankmajer, in honor of the Czech animator and their inspiration. Their most famous short work, Street of Crocodiles, has a man looking into a kinetoscope to see the terrifying vision of a figure plagued by strange forces on a city's dark, deserted streets. ~ Linda J.
