In this 1979 movie, Astronaut Buck Rogers was shot into space in the latter part of the 20th century. Due to a force he encounters, he is frozen in suspended animation and hurled to an orbit much further out than planned. He is finally wakes as he approaches earth, 500 years later. At he nears earth, he is attacked by space vehicles which force him to the great spaceship Draconia under the command of the gorgeous Princess Ardala. The hedonistic Ardala is fascinated by the handsome 500-year-old frozen-young Rodgers but is persuaded by her aide Kane to let Rogers continue to earth with a tracking device hidden in his spacecraft that will reveal safe passages through earth’s defenses. Kane thinks that Rogers is a spy from Earth trying to determine if the Draconians are really going to earth on a peace mission as stated. (They are not!) As disclosed later, the earthlings completely believe the Draconians’ visit is for to promote peace and trade. Buck is not destroyed going though earth defenses due to the efforts of a team led by Col. Wilma Deering. (Apparently, military flight suits in the 25th century are made of spandex, and Col. Deering has a body for which spandex was invented.) Deering, unlike Ardala, is not fascinated by Rogers. She believes that Rogers is a member of a party of marauders who have been attacking earth. The attacks have made the treaty so necessary. Buck learns (to his great shock) that he is in the 25th century, that much of civilization was destroyed by “The Great Holocaust,” and that mutants inhabit the area around New Chicago, the area where humans live. Buck is believed and then disbelieved by everybody on earth. He seems to be the only one who really understands that the Draconia is really a Trojan horse. He finally uses Ardala’s attraction towards him to get abord the Draconia and try to prevent the conquest of earth. I found this movie entertaining as a combination of earnest adventure, double entendre humor, and deliberate campiness. Although it can be listed as a theatrical move, it was really a two-episode pilot for the Buck Rodgers television show. The movie was released to theaters a few months before the debut of the series; so, it is really a made-for-television movie. Do not expect the production values of some of the better movies of that era.

This is a classic sci-fi show. It is the original two part pilot made into a stand alone movie. The picture quality and sound are good. The story is about Buck Rogers and how he was lost in space for 500 years and then found by humans in the 25th century. He becomes the hero and saves the Earth. I love this show because of the goofy humor and science fiction action.
