MGM's DVD edition of Bucktown, a part of their budget-priced "Soul Cinema" line, serves up its film in a decent no-frills edition. The video is surprisingly good for such an old film, boasting a widescreen transfer that is reasonably colorful and crisp for its age. There is bit of artifacting in one nightclub scene, but the disc otherwise delivers a sharp picture that is free of defects. The mono Dolby Digital audio track lacks the sonic sparkle of a stereo mix, but delivers a clean, sharp soundtrack (Spanish and French subtitles are offered in place of foreign language soundtracks). The only extra offered on the Bucktown disc is a trailer. It's a pretty entertaining trailer, but those unfamiliar with the film may want to avoid watching before the film because it utilizes most of the film's action set pieces. All in all, Bucktown is a solid DVD package that will please the budget-minded blaxploitation enthusiast.
