They are easy to install by screening them in the light socket and then download the C By Ge App via Google play or Apple Store. Make sure you have internet and Bluetooth before starting the installation to setup C By Ge App. The best thing is that you are not required to purchase extra hardware for them to install and work flawlessly. Now, if you outside of your home they be controlled via the internet wiith Amazon Alexa, Google Voice, Google Nest Hub or My Home (Apple Apps). Enjoy.

Obsessed with Wifi Bulbs

It seems like a lot to purchase a light bulb (I only purchase the ones on sale), but they are so convenient and fun to arrange the lighting just how you want it. The reason I gave it only four stars is because this particular product's app is testy. I always shows the devices not connected, even when they are, so I'm constantly using the reload(?) feature or pulling the screen down to reload the screen to reset it. That usually works and then it shows my active devices. I also have a Sengled brand light bulb (it was free with a different purchase). That app and programming functionality are great and user friendly! I actually recommend that brand over C by GE. Nevertheless, most of my bulbs are C by GE and their app gives you the option to allow others to control the lighting as well.

CbyGE Direct Connect Bulb slight response lag

Quality4 out of 5Value4 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5Easy set up via CbyGE app (iOS) but required doing it two to three times as process failed to complete a couple of times for each bulb. I am very familiar and experienced with CbyGE detection protocol as I have over 40 of the hardwired dimmers in my home and 5 of the plugs. Once the bulbs were recognized, it was an easy matter to get them recognized by Alexa. Response of bulbs is virtually instantaneous when using the CbyGE App (although I rarely use it as it is very clunky and the whole purpose in my case was integration with Alexa voice control...I only use the CbyGE App to enroll my devices then to test whether any lag is due to GE or Hubitat or Alexa). When controlling via Alexa voice control or Hubitat HE automation, I am experiencing about a 3 second lag between command and execution (turning light on or off). I am using the bulb as a pantry light triggered by opening or closing of the pantry door. Other than the slight lag, bulb seems to work fine. I thought price was good (paid $19.99 for 4 bulbs, ordered last night and picked up via curbside delivery this morning). When I looked up the item again (the same day of pickup), I see the price is now $14.99! An even better deal, although it does not help me at all. Oh well!

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use3 out of 5The bulbs work well, but there is an installation/setup step. You need to download the app, install it create yet another account. Then you can install the bulb, discover it, configure it to use your wifi router, name it, assign it to a room, update the bulb firmware(!), then you're able to use it. Finally, if you want to use voice control, you can link your account with Alexa or Google Home. Once all that is done, it's not hard to operate the bulbs by remote control using the app (or voice control, if you've linked it). These bulbs are white light, and can be dimmed. You can also set up automated routines like turning the light on at dusk and off at midnight.

Good bulbs that work with Alexa

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5C by GE soft white smart bulbs were my second experience with smart bulbs. My first were Phillips Hue. These C by GE are good priced and they don't need a hub to work. After downloading the app, it was easy to set up. Also I used Alexa to control and automation. When setting up, make sure your smartphone is on the same WiFi network you are going to put the bulbs on and your Bluetooth is turned on. There are a few issues after use. Sometimes the bulbs don't respond to Alexa and it says light bulbs are not responsive. The GE app says that the server is not responding. I tried logging using website on my browser, and the website was down. Another issue with the app is that you have to log on almost every time with email address and password, when you want to make adjustments to brightness. Reseting the bulbs was a pain. I had to search the Internet for instructions on how to. The steps are repeating turning on and off with so many secs of wait and hold. After a few hiccups these bulbs have been working with Alexa and the GE app. I am able to adjust the brightness and schedule with a routine. The GE app needs some improvement or further development.

Great bulbs for the price

Setting them up was fairly easy with the C by GE app, being able to control them over WiFi over bluetooth is a nice option to have as well. Reliability wise, there have been some with GE's API so on some occasions I was unable to control them over WiFi, or when I was able to, there was a horrendous amount of lag, luckily the option to control them over bluetooth is always there so it wasn't a huge deal. When everything is working well, the bulbs respond quickly to being switched on and off or dimmed which is great. I've yet to have the bulbs actually lose connection from my router so overlooking the API issue, everything has been working quite smoothly.

Q: QuestionCan these be used in enclosed light fixtures?

- A:Answer We do not recommend putting these lights in a fully enclosed fixture. The reason is because LEDs dissipate their own waste heat, and are designed to do so in a very small surface area (around the surface of the bulb) LEDs therefore rely on the temperature around the bulb to be fairly low in order for the heat dissipation to work effectively. -C by GE Support

Q: QuestionIf you turn off something thats plugged into the switch directly, does it also turn off the bulbs connected to it or are they independent of each other?

- A:Answer Hey Richt, If you are using the C by GE bulbs with a C by GE in-wall wired switch, the switch will know that you are using our bulbs (its a setting you choose at setup in the C by GE app) and you can turn on and off the switch like normal with no impact to the functionality of the bulbs. If you are using a C by GE plug, however, we do not recommend plugging a device that has C by GE bulbs installed in it. The plug cuts the power to the device and the bulbs need constant power to function properly.

Q: QuestionI am wanting to upgrade to smart lighting and can't decide between the C by GE 3 wire switch or light bulbs such as these. Does anyone know what the pros and cons are of one vs the other? Would there ever really be a reason to use them both together?

- A:Answer Thank you for reaching out to us Jfree. Some pros and cons for having either the switches or bulbs or both. Our switches allow you to control the dimming and allows you to physically turn it off or on. We do also carry motion sensing switches that will detect motion and control the light that way. The switches do everything the bulbs do aside from being able to move around to other fixtures. Rewiring might be a bit cumbersome however the switches will also allow you to use other bulbs. We can also assist you with wiring the switches in your wall without having to consult with an electrician. Our smart bulbs can be controlled from the app however the range will depend on the model we sell bluetooth and direct connect bulbs. Bluetooth operates off of bluetooth range and Direct Connect functions off of your home wifi network. Both devices can be automated in our C by GE app allowing you to set timers to have them go on or off at certain times. It all comes down to personal preference and where you intend to use them.
