      Best CoD Game So Far

      • Top 1000 ContributorTop 1000 Contributor

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is definitely one of the best modern shooters of this era. What sets this game apart from the other games in the franchise and apart from the countless other FPS games out there? PRESENTATION. The presentation of CoD4 deserves a gold star. The transition from mission to mission is almost seamless, creating an exciting, well-understood, and well-formatted storyline. The weapon models are replicated very well. They sound and shoot just as they would in reality. In my opinion, the single-player campaign of CoD4 far outshines that of World at War and Modern Warfare 2 (I have not played the single-player campaign of Black Ops nor do I have the intention of buying that game because the presentation by Infinity Ward is much better than Treyarch's - no fanboy-ism intended). Whereas the missions in WaW were repetitive and those of MW2 were sometimes too arcade-like, the missions in CoD4 are more plausible and are more varied. The only problem is the multiplayer mode. There is no match-making nor are there any host migrations. This means that you could be playing with people from Europe, Asia, Africa, etc. causing you to lag significantly. And if you are randomly chosen as the host while having a not-so-fast internet speed (especially when you have to connect to other parts of the world), the match will not even start. Instead, it will conclude the match as a draw right from the beginning before it goes back to intermission and selecting a new map. It will continue to process you as the host until you leave that specific lobby. The reason why this error has not been fixed is because more attention is focused towards the multiplayer modes of WaW, MW2, and Black Ops. WaW picked up on this flaw and had their matches restart after finding the best host. MW2 picked up on this flaw even further by including a host migration so that matches would not have to be restarted from the beginning. Recommendation: Buy this game for the single-player campaign, but buy Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for the online multiplayer mode.

one of the best games i have played

lets start by saying even though this is the game of year edition, which supposedly is supposed to have the new maps included, it doesnt, nor did i get a code to download the maps at no i do not know why they released this as the game of the year edition. other than that i am not a big FPS fanatic. to be honest, i thought games like halo, medal of honor, and doom were stupid. i beat halo 1 on legendary, even though the last level was frustrating trying to beat the time limit and i had to keep at it to finally get it, and medal of honor series was ok, none of them kept my attention. the last shooter games i liked were goldeneye and perfect dark for N64. since then EA has butchered the 007 games and i wont even play them anymore. Call of duty is differnt. there is alot in the game that keeps me hooked. i enjoy the single story player mode alot more than other games like halo. the multiplayer mode is where the game really standsout from the crowd. online multiplayer mode has an experiance system in place to unlock new weopons, skills/perks which makes the game very addicting. it is fun to get experiance to unlock new items. you get experiance for killing other players, and doing various things that the game has predeifined (kill so many people with a particular weopon ect. you also can unlock extra devices for your weopons like bayonets, sights/scopes among a few dozen other devices that improve certain weapon characteristics. this keeps the game very entertaining to gain experiance by completing certain objectives, or to do things a certain way you may not do otherwise. I also picked up call of duty 5 2 days after i purchased this game since everyone said this game is better. i thouroghly enjoy both games and both have the same experiance system, though 5 has different ways to earn exp. i couldnt choose between either of them to say one is better. call of duty 4 is a modern day game, while call of duty 5 (world at war) takes place along world war 2 era. i think most people just prefer the modern day weopons compared to the COD 5 ones. i enjoy both games and rank them the same so if you are getting this game or love this game, consider getting call of duty 5 as well.

One of the greats.... a must own....

How has anyone not played this yet? It amazes me how some people have yet to play this masterpiece of modern console gaming. The level design, the beautiful graphics, tight game play, legendary multiplayer maps, and then some and still haven't picked up a copy? Anyways, the story follows the SAS's newest recruit "Soap" McTavish joining Capt. Price and his squad boarding a vessel holding Russian weaponry of the nuclear kind, but stolen by Al-Assad, an anti-Western terrorist who is causing unrest in the Middle East trying to take over a small, oil-rich country. The US invades the country to find Al-Assad, while the SAS hunt for him in Russia, following up a tip from fellow Russian Armed Forces. After a shocking twist and the plot unravels deeper and deeper, it all concludes in one epic conclusion that will satisfy fans of CoD and action games alike. I seriously urge anyone to pick this game up on any system or PC (Even the DS has a fun version of the game!) and experience some terrific multiplayer, fantastic graphics and one terrific twist that will shock you to pieces. Buy it now, or wait til the remaster comes out in November, but still pick it up!

      You Must Own This Game

If this game came without having any single player/offline mode at all it would still be worth every penny. The leveling system in the multiplayer mode is well designed and leads to extremely addictive gaming habits. The features and perks that you gain as you level up are fun and valuable but at the same time its very easy for a level 1 player to compete with a player who is a much higher level if they have a similar skill level. That is to say that the perks and benefits that come with leveling do not make the game lopsided and ruin the fun for those who are just starting out. The online community for this game is huge and you will have no troubles jumping right into a game. The single player mode is solid and makes for good fun but once you get started on the multiplayer you may not return to the single player missions ever again. Battling the unimpessively smart AI enemies just loses its fun once you've felt the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat that can only come when matched against a 12 year old from half-way around the world. Pick up this game now - its been out for a while so its only about 30 bucks which is an amazing value. Modern Warfare 2 won't be out for 5 months or so and this game is too good to spend 150 more days not playing it!

I havent played MODERN WARFARE for a while but a few weeks ago, I picked it up and started playing it again. I am hooked all over again!! Where to start? First let me say this game has already won "GAME OF THE YEAR". My entire reason for buying a PS3 sysem was to play this game, after I played this game at my friends. GRAPHICS- EXCELLENT GAME-PLAY- EXCELLENT SOLO- GAME PLAY- EXCELLENT ONLINE-GAME-PLAY- EXCELLENT CONTROLS- EXCELLENT Thie online play is great!! online has several maps and a map pack that can be downloaded for an expense.. You can rank up through several ranks and gain lots of modern weapons and addons to the weapons such as LASER-SIGHT, SCOPES, SILENCERS, and much more. Online is extremely fun. This still ranks as my favorite game on the shelf!! Keep in mind there is a MODERN WARFARE 2 due to release in NOVEMBER 09!!! (this is handy information because prices may drop on this game once the sequal is released) however you may want to get started on the first before the second is released?? you can access lots of information on CALLOFDUTY.COM..... TO RECAP... THIS IS TOTALY AND BY FAR THE BEST GAME I HAVE PLAYED ON THE PS3 AND IS A MUST HAVE!!! I GUARENTEE YOU WILL LIKE IT!!!

      Not what I expected

Plain and simple--- I was expecting to be able to pretty much choose what I wanted to do in the single player mode. I was hoping to choose my guns before levels started, choose my paths through levels, etc. From all the hype that this game got I was at least expecting the campaign to be good... I played through about 5 or 6 levels and stopped. It was the same thing over and over. Unless you make your person move forward, nobody else moves and the bad guys keep coming- just what I hated about the older CoDs. Also the same old 1 path through a level makes the single player terrible. There is no variety at all. Another thing that I also hate with the campaign is the fact that it jumps around from playing as a British person or whatever to a US Marine. I would love to play as the same person the whole time.... gaining exp/rank, unlocking better guns to use, being able to recruit and lead a team... something like that but there really is no ability to do anything in the campaign. That being stated, online play is great! Enough said! I would recommend it to a friend for online play but not for the campaign.

      Best game in the series

This is one of those great games you don't have to sell very hard, just looking at it you see it is something special. There is a nice effect of blurring distant objects allowing them to give more detail to the nearer objects and emphasize realism. It isn't perfect, but it serves to immerse the player nicely. There are many different objectives to accomplish, defend things, destroy things, carry your wounded pal around and occasionally put him down so you can BOTH fight, and there are also traps to use. The online component is one of the biggest draws of this game, the leveling system makes it addictive to gain more and more. This leads to an issue which leads to the new players being at a disadvantage since they lack the gear and skills of their higher-ranking competition. The gameplay is also short, short enough to finish the single-player campaign in a single week, but you will probably replay it. There are also more races from here or there with enemies between for my taste, but your opinion may differ. Overall this is great and you should strongly consider purchasing this game.

This game is truely worth the purchase. I first went into Best Buy and purchased the star wars force unleashed game the day it came out. I did not open it and read a ton of reviews about how it was fun but very fast, so I then took the game back and picked up Call of Duty 4 with the help of the sales associate in the Sherman Oaks store. The game came highly recommended and I am glad that I purchased it. The graphics are amazing. I am not much of a story reader and like to fast-forward my way through, and this allows you to do that. You do have to wait for the occasional chapter loading, but that goes by quickly. I do not like to read manuals, so it took me about an hour to realize I could change weapons easily which helped alot! But, once that was all settled, it was a very exciting game. I blew through the easy level in a good amount of time for a beginner, and just finished the hard level, which I would definately recommend. Now I cannot wait for the online play. Watch out people, I am here to whop some booty! Thanks BEST BUY SHERMAN OAKS CA for the referral. It was wroth it!
