      umm...this is a "sequel"????

OK, OK, OK, everyone that came from under their rock early 2009 couldn't wait to get MW2, and instantly rushed to pick it up at their local Best Buy, go back under their rock, and play it. Yes, I get it. You were VERY excited, and wanted something that was more amazing than the prequel. But did you get that? Well......if ya ask me...NO, you didnt'!!!! "ZOMG! He said it's a bad game! FLAME HIM!!" Yea, slow down for a bit. Use some intellect when you read this, k? Well......I'll be nice. The good thing about this game, minus the nice weapon sounds and the actually enjoyable SpecOps, is the "OMG!!" moments in the campaign. MW had the sniper level, and walking around before dying thanks to a nuke going off. But what's in MW2? Well, how about a snowmobile level, ice climbing (don't look down), killing innocent Russian people in the THIRD LEVEL (yep...No Russian..YouTube it), sneaking around bases with surpressed weapons, and throwing a knife at the end of the game. Yes....OMG moments, and LOTS of them. What's the bad, though? Well....the campaign is short....VERY short.....UNBELIEVABLY short. Four hours??? ON NORMAL?!!!! WHAAAT?!!! MW1 took at least 8 on Normal! And the sequel is shorter?!!! Yea, no...not likin' that. Also, could they make it any harder to follow the story? Bouncing from Ramirez to Roach to Ramirez to MacTavish (yes, he's in the game).......I lost track of what was actually going on after "No Russian"....third level...that's the last time I remember the story being clarified EVER in this game.....and with a four-hour campaign....should I be surprised? I also said the online wasn't so great.....well...if you played the game BEFORE the many, many patches, you already know why. Maybe it's because I REALLY liked MW1 due to it actually took SKILL to dominate in that game,, Infinity Ward? Why????? Why would you let people run around with a grenade launcher, Thumper (which launches explosive rounds....just like another weapon...hmmm), and Scavenger so I can keep picking up launcher rounds? This game wasn't meant for veteran players of MW1 like myself. It was meant for novice players to hop in and get easy kills without using much brain power. Also, some of the killstreaks are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overpowered. Think about it......Chopper Gunner comes in....flies above die. You spawn, you die again. Yea, let's change "Hit X to respawn" to "Hit X to die and get your butt spawn camped by a Chopper Gunner", which fires a flare before it can be shot down. So, if you're lucky enough to have a horrible gunner that just can't see you, or you have Cold-Blooded (prevents you from showing up as a red square), you can shoot two Stingers at it and take it down. can happen. But let's talk about that AC130. Get 11 kills in a row, and you get to call in this baby (if you pick it as a killstreak). So, what happens with this thing? Oh...nothing......except it rains (they won't let me type it) on Earth with explosive shells firing at you, and shooting four flares before FINALLY being shot down....unless you have a team that's willing to co-ordinate attacks (one person fires a Stinger, flare...another fires, AC130 can't shoot flares in time...BOOM!)....just run....and hide.....for a good minute. Don't even get me started on the glitchers before the patches. I played a few hours on Saturday.....nine games. Of those nine, half had people doing the care package glitch, and the rest were modded rooms where you basically run at twice the speed....yea, that's a fun way to play a game! Let's glitch and cheat like we're playing Halo 2 back in its prime days!! :D Good idea (.....insert explicit word here). Before that, it was rooms that had infinite ammo....yea, imagine an automatic grenade launcher...with infinite ammo...FOR Yes. Annoying after a while? Yes. Yet ANOTHER problem with online....LAAAAAAAAG. No, it's not my connection. 6MB wouldn't lag so much. But I can't count how many times I fired four rounds into someone that tried to knife me, only having the last two register, letting that guy knife me. OR, shooting an automatic, two, three, four, five, six....guess which ones registered? Yep, four, five and six....the last rounds register....what happened to the first three?!! Don't you people know you can't destroy matter?!!! If you're like me, you'll get beyond annoyed with people running around stabbing you, or sniping you with a shotgun....actually, lemme talk about that as well. How far do you think you should be able to hit someone with a shotgun? Not that far, right? Don't you think that.....hmm, a few effective, but after that, it's not worth anything? Yea, tell that to the SPAS-12, or the Model 1887 before it got patched. I'm on the catwalk on Sub Base...that's two full levels up...I kill a guy in two shots that's below me.......yep...the range with shotties is unbelievable. And another pet-peeve. How is a .50cal sniper rifle going to actually HIT a guy, and he doesn't die?! Come on!!! It's a 50....50!!!!!! That's death waiting to happen! But chest? Walks. Neck? Ehh, if he's lucky, walks....but the Intervention, magically, they're not so lucky....uh-huh. Great job, guys. Maybe I'm being WAAAAY too picky, but coming from a game that actually was close to being a well-balanced game (MW1) to one that's completely broken (the FUBAR mistake they called MW2), it's obvious to see that MW2 was nothing but a cash cow, only to abuse the name instead of actually improving from MW1. It was made to be for those novice players/little kids that want the best early and go "OMG! Grenade Launcher! And I can still have perks! Cool!" and go use that instead of learning how to aim a gun, fire rounds (assuming all of them register!), and getting a kill. *sigh*.....veterans......don't buy this game, 'less you're more patient than I am......and I'm not a patient person to begin with........ P.S. I re-read this five times to delete the profanity from the review....that's how frustrating this game is.....six, now.

      A lot of nonsense

I see a lot of people on here complaining about the short campaign and such, when in reality Infinity Ward wasn't basing their focus on the campaign. Let's talk about it though, the first couple missions are enjoyable, sneaking through a blizzard to escape down a mountain on snow mobiles, pure awesome. After that you run into the controversial, hardly sensible airport mission, where somehow your involvement in helping a genocidal terrorist leader in slaughtering an airport full of innocent civilians will get you closer to eliminating him as a terrorist presence. My question is why not just kill him and his partners right then and there as you stand behind them with your LMG. But hey, you can skip this mission if you want. To be honest, I haven't finished the campaign yet. I've had the game since midnight release and upon playing the ridiculous missions that require no tactical gameplay at all, and just random, ridiculous firefights, I straight up quit playing the campaign. Okay, enough about that. The multiplayer, for lack of a better word, is epic.. in the most part. Easily one of the best multiplayer experiences ever created. There is a couple problems though that anyone that plays could tell you about. First off, the glitches. Yes, there is going to be glitches in every game, but upon release of the game there has only been one released patch and that didn't fix nearly half of them. Constantly being pulled into extremely large party private games such as free-for-all on rust, that count towards your statistics. The infinite ammo glitches. Many more. Next we can talk about some of the weapons. First example, the Model 1887's, these are the most unbalanced, ridiculous weapon placed in any shooter, ever. Secondly, you have precision shooting, where very often you will find an enemies exposing only their head, yet as you shoot them there (which should kill them), somehow you are hitting another part of their body. Last but not least, you have the fact that when you are playing a gametype with a full party, the server pulls certain members of your party out of the game, even when there is enough spots in the designated game. The 2LDR version, basically there is alot of things in this game that are wrong, but can be patched, and hopefully will. If you can put up with the nonsense that is within this game long enough for happen, then I recommend buying it. Other than that, it's an amazing game.

An improvement over traditional FPS mechanics

This is my starting point in the call of duty series and it is an excellent one at that, I do plan on going back to play the predecesor call of duty 4 but for now let me talk Modern Warfare 2. This game has a stellar campaign with plenty of omg moments packed into the relatively short story missions clocking in around 6 or so hours and incredible visuals to compliment those moments. Theres also the inclusion of spec ops mode which are pretty much campaign missions without the story to accompany them, these can be done with a friend and will take some impressive players to unlock all the stars for the missions. The sound effects from bullets whizzing overhead to large explosions in the distance are all spot on and make the experience all that more enjoyable. The multiplayer is what wil keep me coming back to this game however as it has a vast amount of unlockable weapons, emblems, and prestiges. The ability to customize my player online to have either a sniper, smg, or assault rifle is an amazing feat ( if a little unbalanced) and keeps me playing deep into a saturday night to try and earn new attachments to my guns as well as new perks. although the experience can be frustrating at times depending on what type of people your playing with its really great at its good times. As a new player to this series Im enjoying every bit of it.

      Answer The Call Of Duty

      • Top 500 ContributorTop 500 Contributor

I'm writing this review to give you the full Modern Warfare 2 experience. This game is absolutely amazing.5 years after Modern Warfare, Makarov the man loyal to Zakhaev the guy you shot down in COD 4 wants revenge on everybody. An entire nation is duped into military action, and America is invaded by a foreign power. The campaign hops back and forth between the US and overseas. The enemies in cover are well better hidden than in Modern Warfare.Your allies are ready and willing to move up,help check the corners and even prompt you to move forward. The visuals are simply amazing with every scene looking like a major blockbuster movie.Over the course of the story you will infiltrate arctic bases, race to safety on snowmobiles, sprint over slum rooftops in Rio,hold fast food restaurants against invading armies and liberate the White House from enemy hands. The level designs are fantastic from start to finish. Some people might get very offended, but their is a play through were You shoot innocent civilians in a crowded airport. You don't have to play this part of the game if you don't want to.Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer is better than ever before. The big edition is Spec Ops mode. It's a collection of 23 missions designed for two players to battle their way thru.It also shows events that happened elsewhere within the game,as well as in Call Of Duty 4.Competitive multiplayer is what you're familiar with with as in COD 4.Leveling,perks,kill streaks rewards it's all here, and It's been tweaked and rebalanced for a better experience. You're constantly unlocking rewards earning XP for just about everything you do.Completing challenges for new gun attachments, leveling up perks, even opening up custom titles to display along side your name and matches.Kill streaks are now awarded for new vehicles, auto turrets, care packages for random bonuses, even to rain AC-130 from above. For those that play badly you're still rewarded you get a bonus for snapping a scoreless streaks of death.3rd person mode not all that great, you might play it once or twice, but that's it.Modern Warfare 2 is sure to be a game of the year, and it's a first person shooter that every first person shooter junkie should own.Infinity Ward you done it again.

Call of Duty campaign at it's finest.

As with all of the earlier Call of Duty games, the campaign is an intense, heartpounding experience all the way through. Modern Warfare 2 campaign also seems to give the player many more of those epic cliffhanger moments (literally in one instance). Veteran mode seemed to be slighlty easier than the first Modern Warfare and, thankfully, a lot less frustrating than the World at War campaign on veteran. Special Ops,the new co-op mode, is a nice addition. Though I would say it falls short of what it could have been, especially since the campaign cannot be played on co-op, there is still plenty of satisfaction in playing and completing it. The online multiplayer setup is amazing,in that there is so much new stuff, such as new perks, choosing your own killstreak rewards,a lot more attachments, and a throwing knife. There is a server problem which may cause "subtle" lag for some people. What I mean by this is that many times you may die in what seems like an impossible way and assume maybe someone is cheating, but when observing the killcam it seems like the other player is several seconds ahead of you in the game.(For example: you are about to round a corner, but haven't yet,and then suddenly die through the wall, then watch the killcam to see yourself actually round the corner and stay in the open for a couple of seconds. If you can change your NAT type to open, then these occurrences don't happen nearly as often,I would even say rarely. For those that cannot change their NAT type, there is Team Deathmatch Express, which will pair the player with others that share a similar connection. The downside of this is that you are limited to one gametype and you must endure one of the worst ideas in gaming history: in order to play half of the gametypes, including hardcore and regular deathmatch, you cannot be in party chat.In fact if you are,a menu will pop up prompting you to switch to game chat. If you decline you cannot play that game type.Overall the game is great, definitely worth buying, but do not be surprised if you encounter strange happenings in multiplayer.

      Modern Warfare 2

I have been off and on with this MW2 since its' release and I have to say that it is a very enjoyable game. The fact that I keep coming back to it speaks for itself enough considering how easily I tend to bore of a game. + First, I have to touch on what everyone is saying about the campaign. Personally I enjoyed it. The storyline was decent and most definitely an interesting concept. It wasn't the hardest campaign to finish, but it was fun none-the-less, I have a decent amount hours logged on the campaign itself. + The key highlight for me has been the multiplayer and xbox live play. I have spent a significant amount of time on live, as well as just doing some free-for-all matches with some friends of mine. I have found the weapon leveling system to be very fun! I like how you have to posses either a certain amount of skill or large amount of freetime to unlock upgrades for your weapons. I always hated the person who would run around with the best weapon and equipment on a game and obtain a decent score just because of their inventory. + Now, on the other hand, one bad thing about the live play and weapons... The akimbo shotguns... Just in case you are not familiar with this, it is a dual wielded shotgun that does very high damage and has a rediculous spread that will hit its target if you are even remotely close. It takes little to no skill with this weapon and every online game, there seems to be some no talent idiot running around blasting people with these. Last I checked, video games are quite a bit more fun when there is some sort of tactics or planning employed. + Overall, I have found this game to be great! Great graphics, awesome leveling system, fun campaign, and intense multiplayer action. I would recomment this game to any FPS lover.

Great Overall but not the best

I was very excited about getting this game as I heard MW3 was practically a repeat of this game (however I may purchase MW3 in the near future). The gameplay is nearly flawless, you move smoothly, and it's a great overall experience when you're playing. My favorite part of the game is definetly the "Special Ops" mode. If you can't afford Xbox Live for the online multiplayer #which is pefect, the way you level up, the killstreaks, the customs you can create is very innovative and very fun# then this mode is what you'll find mostly exciting. There are a variety of missions to play and each one is challenging and extremely fun to play. You can either go solo or play with a friend. I recommend a second player because by doing that, you'll get the most out of the "Special Ops." The biggest flaw of this game is the single player Campaign. First off, there is no co-op like in World at War, so you're stuck playing by yourself even if you want to play with a friend. The story however, is extremely confusing and hard to keep up with. It is almost as if it doesn't make sense. The layout of the storyline is very random and you shift from one person to another trying to figure out what relation the last mission has to the current one. It's very short compared to other Call of Duty games as I was able to tackle it in mere hours. The Campaign was obviously not the focus on this project. Overall it is a great game but the story needs big adjustments.

Over rated, fun for the frist two weeks...

When i bought this game in November of 2009, I thought hey, Call of Duty, all right woohooo.. I purchased the game as soon as I could like any other anxious customer. As soon as I put the game in my Xbox, I fell addicted to it.. It was very fun... Until i prestiged.. Everything got boring... People were cheating.. The killsreaks were insanly overpowered.. You respawned in a location were the enemy is! Really "Team Deathmatch" Is not team deathmatch, its run around the map shooting everyone else, by camping in buildings, setting up claymores, and so forth.. Now for a new game, that people haven't really thought of at all. That is Battlefield Bad Company 2... A game most people say, "what is that??" Let me tell you this game, is 10 times more real, than MW2. This game requires straegy... You can't run out in the middle of a map, shooting a grenade launcher, and thinking you'll kill someone.. You can't snipe or camp in buildings.. For exmple.. You know how you can shoot a rocket launcher at a house in MW2 and nothing will happen to the building? Well in bad company, you can blow the **** out of walls, tell your buddies were the enemy is if you spot them, you can drive vehicles in Bad company.. (Tanks, ATV, humvees, choppers) You can heal your soldiers, no more getting shot and immediatly dying.. (MW2) And most of all it requires strategy.. You have to work together to win the game and get more points.. It is more fun overall, and i encourage everyone to get it, if you like MM2, but is sick of online play.. I thought the same thing.. "I'm not bying because of a review".. but trust me it is worth the money..
